Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot is a top-down shooter/deck builder/bullet heaven rogue-lite we've been working on for the past few months. The main, um... "hero" is just a pile of gross green slime. But it's sentient! The Despot created it, and then it became self-aware and started breaking sh*t left and right in an attempt to... do what, exactly? We're not sure. Let's call this endeavor 'trying to break free from your oppressive creator.' The means, though... On his path to chaotic freedom, Slime kills thousands of innocent puny humans, spiders, robots, giant brains, and other creatures the Despot sends after the clueless green fella.

Just so there's no confusion: Slime 3K (let’s call it just Slime from here on) is our Early Access game set in the Despot's universe, and we’re officially launching version 1.0 on October 31st on Steam and consoles. It's pixel-art, rogue-lite with meta-progression, inspired by games like Vampire Survivors and auto-chess games. It's not really a retro game, but many people think that "pixel art = retro." However, Slime 3k: Demake (we'll just call it Demake) is a separate game (also in the Despot's universe) made in the Game Boy style, both when it comes to the graphics and sound. It’s a free title that's playable right now. Why should you play it, you ask.🤔 Well, apart from just having some old-school fun, here's why:

[h3]If you beat the Demake, you'll get a code for unlocking a secret ability in the main game, Slime 3K![/h3]

Now, let's talk about how Demake came to be. When Slime was about to launch in Early Access, one of our artists, Arcade Hero, sketched a Demake concept for fun. We asked the team to come up with anything that might bring new players during the 1.0 launch, and that concept is what we came up with. We posted this on X and pretty much forgot about it.

A month later, out of nowhere, our tester, neworderseo, posted a fully playable Demake build (!) based on the art from Arcade Hero. And boy, did it look awesome! We gathered as a team and discussed it, and our decision was clear - let’s ship it! The art neworderseo had originally done didn’t quite match the quality of the initial concept, and there were gameplay elements to tweak as well. Demake went through three gameplay revamps and ended up having similarities to its big brother Slime but with enough differences to stand out as a smaller, minimalist game that’s still fun on its own. It took us nearly a year to complete since it was being worked on only on Fridays – and not every Friday! The project was entirely led by two members of our small indie dev team.

Regardless of how it does upon release, we're proud of the team's work. Here's the takeaway: if neworderseo hadn’t built that prototype in their free time, we wouldn’t have ever greenlit the development of Demake during work hours – there are always more urgent tasks on the main projects. But once you’ve got something tangible and a great concept in your hands, it's hard to say no to setting aside some time for it. So, even if you don’t have a concrete plan, sometimes you just gotta start doing it – and see where it takes you. Or maybe it won’t work out, but hey, at least you tried! Reminder: Slime 3K: Rise Against Despot is exiting Early Access development and getting a Version 1.0 update on October 31st. If you beat the Demake that we just released, you unlock a secret ability for the game.

In Season 27, we introduced "Seasonal Mutations"—significant changes to Despot’s Game that alter the game's perception for one season. Seasons last, on average, 3-4 weeks, and when the season ends, these changes are reverted.

The "Season of Summoners" has ended! The changes from it were warmly received by the community, so they will remain in the game.

In this season, puny humans of all classes unite! We are doubling the effects of all mutations that grant bonuses for having units from other classes on your team, such as Guard, Cult Leader, Guardian of the Order, and so on!

  • In "Mutagens", the cost of "More Altars" in the mutation tree has been increased at all levels:
    1. Level 1: 50 ➔ 70

  • In "Mutagens", the cost of "Wide Selection" in the mutation tree has been increased: 120 ➔ 160

  • The "Classic" team has been buffed: Just-a-Sword ➔ Excalibur
  • The Meganewbie has been given a hidden ability: his default chance to avoid a negative status effect is 20%

  • To summon the Deathknight, fewer Tanks are now required: 15 ➔ 10
  • To summon the Thorny, fewer Tricksters are now required: 11 ➔ 7

  • The attack speed bonus for 1st and 2nd tier Fighters' items has been halved.

  • The damage multiplier from Bloodletting has been reduced: 3 ➔ 2
  • The damage of Rain of Bullets has been reduced: 450 ➔ 250
  • Magical Blood now drops from level 9
  • Mages' lightning has been buffed at all levels:
    1. Level 1: damage 120 ➔ 150
    2. Level 2: damage 200 ➔ 250
    3. Level 3: damage 320 ➔ 400
  • The damage of the Throwers' "Bomb" has been increased at all levels:
    1. Level 1: damage 40 ➔ 70
    2. Level 2: damage 110 ➔ 150
    3. Level 3: damage 160 ➔ 230
    4. Level 4: damage 230 ➔ 320

In Season 27, we introduced "Seasonal Mutations"—significant changes to Despot’s Game that alter the game's perception for one season. Seasons last, on average, 3-4 weeks, and when the season ends, these changes are reverted.

The "Season of Concentrations" has ended! Now altars and the mutations associated with them work as they did before – there will be more altars, fewer rerolls, and both the Curse of Mutation and More Altars are back.

In this season, we are buffing the creatures that can be summoned through buttons or mutations (in simpler terms, Purr-Meow and other creatures you can find on the map will become stronger; Tentacles and Towers remain unchanged).

The main additions in this season are the "Token of Knowledge" and the ability to sell buttons.
  • "Knowledge Token": a new item that can be purchased after defeating the Despot, right before your team heads to King of the Hill. The token allows you to buy experience for the whole team with tokens – now you can level up your low-level humans! Just make sure you have enough money.
  • Buttons can now be sold. Works the same way as selling items – just drag the unwanted button into the bin in the lower left part of the screen – and you'll receive a small amount of tokens for it.

[h3]• Quest Balance •[/h3]
  • Rewards in tokens for the Tricksters, Cultists, and Shooters' quests have been increased and are now 50 tokens.

[h3]• Mutation and Ability Balance •[/h3]
  • Mass Taunt — cooldown multiplier increased from 5 ➔ 8
  • Delayed Pain — duration reduced from 3 sec ➔ 2 sec
  • Rat-ify — duration reduced from 8 sec ➔ 4 sec
  • Blinding Lightning — blindness duration reduced from 4 sec ➔ 3 sec
  • Death Deferred (T5 Healers ability) — duration reduced from 6 sec ➔ 3 sec

  • In the Sprint mode, on average, the player will receive slightly more tokens on almost all floors.

[h3]• Mutation Tree Balance •[/h3]
  • The Weighted Dice is cheaper at the first level, more expensive at the second, and its effectiveness at the first level has been reduced:
    1. Level 1 25% ➔ 10%; cost 25 ➔ 10
    2. Level 2 cost 60 ➔ 75
  • Topochlorians balance has been changed:
    1. Level 1 40 ➔ 15; cost 15 ➔ 5
    2. Level 2 80 ➔ 30; cost 25 ➔ 15
    3. Level 3 140 ➔ 50; cost 35 ➔ 20
    4. Level 4 cost 45 ➔ 70

In Season 27, we introduced "Seasonal Mutations"—significant changes to Despot’s Game that alter the game's perception for one season. Seasons last, on average, 3-4 weeks, and when the season ends, these changes are reverted.

The "Season of Metamorphoses" has ended! Players received the previous seasonal changes warmly, so most will remain in the game. However, the mutation tree will undergo changes again this season—more on that below.

[h3]Welcome to Season 31—"Season of Concentration".[/h3]

This season's main changes affect the mutation altar. There will now be fewer altars on the levels, but players will have more rerolls available (5 by default instead of 3). Additionally, for the duration of the season, we've removed More Altars from the mutation tree and the Curse of Mutation.

Here's how this affects gameplay: Now, during a single run in Despot’s Game, players will generally receive fewer mutations, but the selection of mutations will be much broader due to the increased number of rerolls.

  • The cost of Tolerance has been reduced at all levels:
    1. Level 1: 30 ➔ 25

  • Stonewall in the tank quest has been replaced with Effective Taunt.
  • Tricksters Items:
