Hey everyone! This is the end of another season and a new balance update.ːdespotː

More people have beaten the game this season, and Octoboss has already been killed more than 7000 times! Therefore, if you took the 500th place in the ranking, it means that you have bypassed 6,500 teams - which is kinda cool honestly ːlunar2019coolpigː

Surely this season will be called the first Peterson-Bunsen war. Because ... well, you see the picture. First place - Peterson, second - Bunsen05 - you guys rock!

Gowlando somehow managed to break into 11th place! As usual, all three receive “Despotism 3k” Steam Key - just PM to ShinShilo.

List of changes in version:
  • Spell of the emitter of eggheads: cooldown 5s -> 6s, armor debuff 30/60/90% -> 20/35/50%
  • Thrower class ability at the second level: damage 260-> 360
  • Lightsaber: health bonus 546-> 696
  • Dragon Slayer: price 12-> 13; damage 250-> 300; health 715-> 1315
  • Nano lance: price 9-> 8
  • Paddle Ball: price 13-> 12
  • Candle Skull: Health Bonus 455-> 555
  • Cursed Contract: Health Bonus 585-> 695
  • "Evading" mutation for medics: level 2 for 20 coins gives a 60% chance

Here are the 5th season results!

The results of the season are here again! This time Peterson took a resounding revenge and defeated Bunsen05. Moreover, he took 4 top positions in King of the Hill at once. Congratulations! Surprisingly, right behind him, a new winner - "digital_peat" - took the fifth place! And after him our previous champion - Bunsen05. In fact, all the first 27 places are occupied by these 3 guys - this is crazy =D
Xumepa and Blootrix are next. This time, Despotism 3k keys can be taken by all five. Just write a private message to ShinShilo via Steam messages.

Balance changes this time are aimed at shifting mages and shooters from the top and making King of the Hill battles a little longer: let's see if it worked out.

List of changes in version:
  • One more level has been added to the "Health bonus" mutation in the skill tree. The percentage bonus is now 40/80/150/300% and the price is 10/15/20/25.
  • In the mutation tree, "Mana Burn" now works on Throwers, and "Fury" on Fencers.
  • Lancers’ lifesteal has slightly increased in price: 5/10 -> 10/15
  • Enhanced the armor buff/debuff of the Eggheads’ Emitter.
  • Weakened all types of Splash that can be found in the altar. For example, a strong Splash on mages and cultists is now only 30%, not 80%.
  • Slightly weakened the "Spiky Armor" that can be found in the altar: 80/110% -> 70/90%

When we asked for somebody to stop Peterson, this was not what we meant! Bunsen05 completed the demo 155 times this season! He took 7 positions in the Top 10, including first! What can we say? Bunsen05, you're awesome. But now we've definitely decided that in the release one player will only be able to take one place in the rankings =D

List of balance changes for the new season:
  • Health bonus of all items has been increased by 30%
  • The price for base shooter item has gone up: Harquebus 2->4
  • Damage from fighter items has been increased: Rocky's Gloves 20->30, Claws 40->50
  • The price for lancer items has been increased: Paddle Ball 12->13, Pitchfork 14->15
  • Lightning damage for mages at the second ability level has been lowered: 700->500 for each casting mage
  • Octoboss damage reduced: 666->555
  • Tentacle lvl 2 has been powered up: movespeed 50->80; health 3666->4666

News on Despot's Channel

We're ending the season on 3/31 and extending the next one to 4/30. In other words, we decided not to close the demo on steam in the near future and to update the season every month. Wait for the winners to be announced and small balance changes!
As we wrote in the last newsletter, we are not doing a serious demo update right now because we want to focus on the full version. After all, who would buy the full game version if we gave everything away in the demo? Nobody—that's who!
But we can show you a couple monsters from the full game that will never appear in the demo:



And we'll share our plans with you. Here are the primary goals we've set for ourselves for the near future:
  • "Cool Bosses." The Octoboss is definitely not right for this role. This is actually the second minion that appeared in the game about a year ago. So, it's time to create someone cool!
  • "Starter Kits." We always planned for the player to start by choosing from set starter kits instead of with 5 newbies and a store. Besides humans, a starter kit also includes starter mutations, but it could include something even crazier. Oldies can compare it to "chips" in Despotism 3k
  • "New quests." Everyone already went for the T-Virus. We need new stories!
  • "Autoplacement"—we're experimenting with it, and it's going well. Whether to use it is up to the player—you will still have to place certain humans manually, but it will speed things up.
  • "NecroLOG"—some people asked about adding an option to view which of the player's units died in battle. We're working on it!

We also made a lot of new mutations which will render all your honed strategies useless, hah! And we're planning even more, so share any new mutations you'd like to see in the comments.

Season results and future plans

Hello, puny humans!
It’s time to wrap up the 3rd season. In third place is Peterson, in second place - Peterson, and in first place - guess who? Also Peterson! He took the first five places. Seriously, do something with this guy in the next season. After him in 6th place is Belinctor and in 8th is tata_live. All three get keys for Despotism 3k. Please contact ShinShilo to get them.

[h3]Our plans briefly[/h3]
Currently we are actively developing the game. You might have thought that our public demo is a form of early access, and the final release is around the corner, but there is much work to be done. First of all we want to make Despot’s Game a really good roguelike with appropriately varied content: enemies, mutations, quests and bosses. There will definitely be some surprises on release, but even we ourselves don’t know what special mechanics will be implemented. King of the hill also needs to be reworked. Primarily we want it to be fun for everyone, not only for the top players.
In case you waited for a big update for the demo - we are sorry, but not at this time. At the moment we are concentrating on developing the full release, and to put effort into improving this demo means less time for the game itself. Nevertheless, we made some small balance updates to hopefully change the meta, so that we see some different teams at the top.

  • Mutation "SALE!" nerfed: 25/40/55/70% -> 20/30/40/50%
  • 3rd level of "Rubber Bullets" mutation is 5 coins more expensive
  • 3rd level of "Vampirism" mutations for lancers nerfed: 40% -> 30%
  • Health bonus mutations got a 3rd level: 150% for 25 coins
