Golden Light Dev Log #3: Road to Early Access

Hello everyone and "Welcome to the meat zone".

"I write this with two fingers that i have left". Because the rest of our fingers are working very hard on Golden Light, haha!

It's been some time since last update post and we don't want to leave you uninformed on all things Golden Light, so, let's see what we were working on!
Steam Game Festival
SGF starts next week, so everyone who didn't check out our public demo builds will be able to do exactly that from June 9th to June 14th. Also, we want to remind you that we'll hold a developer stream on June 9th at 19:00 UTC, be sure to hop onto our livestream on the Golden Light steam page to ask questions, chat with us and listen what will be available in Golden Light at Early Access launch in the first half of July 2020.
Early Access
We've decided to take more time to polish what's already in the game and also add new content. There were problems and issues that we needed to adress with GL, that's why we've moved EA launch to aforementioned July, although the store page may still mention June. Please understand c;

In exchange i can finally announce that the game will be priced at 15$ for the span of Early Access (regional prices may differ), with price being increased at full release.
Discord
We've made a discord channel that you can join and discuss the game with us, make suggestions that will be noticed much faster than those made on steam discussion board and let us know about bugs and stuff. So if you're interested in seeing Golden Light evolve - we welcome you: https://discord.gg/Y8sNMFs
Localization
Currently the game is developed in English and Russian languages, and since there're lots of things that will be added and also an abscence of budgeting we can't straight up go to loc studios and use their service to help us with localization. This is why we decided to handle translation of GL with the help of our community! If you'd like to help us translate Golden Light into your native language - feel free to join our discord mentioned above and let us know! Every single contributor of localization process will be rightfully credited in Golden Light for their help.
What's new?
And now let's discuss our favorite part of these update posts! What's new in Golden Light?

 • New enviroment: We've added a new set of frozen/forest tiles. Be aware, this location hides more danger that you can imagine, don't be fooled by "cool" snowy corridors and warm cabins.
 • New enviroment: We've also added a new enviroment for Castle floor. No matter how fast you run, he'll find you, and he'll try to stop you from descending further into the Gut.
 • New monsters: There are bunch of new cheeky sneaky creatures that will try to stand against your journey into the depths, be careful.
 • Sentient weapons and effects: Every weapon in the game is unique now. It has a name, it has status effects, it's own little story. And some weapons may also require you to spend some gold in exchange for their help. Choose your "friends" wisely!
 • Optimization: Golden Light's performance was greatly improved! Well, not much to say about that.
Known issues:
• After we've moved to new render pipeline and some updates, you may experience some gamebreaking crashes. For some reason they occur not for everyone, which makes it a bit more difficult to find what causes it. We're working hard to resolve this issue.
 • Level generator is a bit freaky from time to time, which shouldn't ruin your experience. Still, this will be adressed in future updates.

That's all for this update post, we're looking forward to see you on our livestream and also to see more feedback on the game when public steam demo comes out on June 9th.

Stay safe and have a great day!

Golden Light Dev Log #2: Steam Game Festival and more updates

Hello everyone!

More than a week has passed and it means that the time has come for another update on our Golden Light developement shenanigans.

 • Steam Game Festival
 • What's new?
 • What are we working on right now
Steam Game Festival
I'm happy to announce that we've opt-in to participate in the Steam Game Festival that will be held on steam on 09 - 14 of June 2020. This means that we will prepare a public steam demo that everyone can play and get their hands on the work we've done in the span of last 3 months. Since one of the rules for this festival states that the game you file in has to release by the end of spring 2021, this can mean only one thing - we're planning to release Golden Light to early access, and this can happen earlier than you can expect!

We'll keep you updated on the Demo version progress of GL and our participacion in the festival and events that we are planning closer to actual dates, but, we're currently working on making the game more accesible, so if you guys have any suggestions in terms of available settings in Golden Light which would help you experience the game - please let us know and we'll try to make that happen for our demo and EA release later on!
What's new?
We've been working and here's what we've done in the recent week:

 • Tutorial: There is now an introduction level in Golden Light. A little floor filled with basic mechanics for newcomers to adapt to and learn. In the beginning of this level you'll find a mysterious woman that appeared there to tell you something important, so listen closely.
 • Procedural weapons: We've made it so every firearm in the game would have a random amount of barrels as well as barrel direction/rotation. No more exact same revolvers and shotguns, enjoy your tripple barrel tommygun!
 • Newdors: Wait, what?
 • New tileset: We've started to implement a new tileset for our proc. generation for further floors. Now if you're strong enough to make it to floor 6 you'll find yourself in new hellish enviroment. Work in progress! Let us know what you think!
 • First boss: We've added the first version of our first big bad guy, now you can find him in the deep of the Gut.
 • Minor bug fixes: We continue to polish the game and fix those nasty bugs. Will we add more bugs? Sure. Will we fix those as well? Of course!
What are we working on right now
• Now when we've added our first boss enemy into the game we'll continue to make into an interesting and engaging boss fight with new moves and possibly new mechanics. Tell us how you see a perfect boss fight in Golden Light!
 • We love chaotic mess, but when in this mess you're stumbling upon clipping tables... that's a no-no, so we work hard to fix furniture and "other things" clipping through walls and each other to improve your experience traversing through Golden Light.
 • Optimization. Speaks for itself.
 • A more clear progression.
 • New enviroments.
 • New enemies. Of course

If you have anything you would like to ask us, feel free! We will gladly answer any of your questions about the game and our developement. But for now, it's the end of this update note.

See you in the Gut!

Golden Light Dev log #1: What's in store, Early Access

Hello guys,

We are working hard on the game and today we'd like to talk about our progress and plans so far:

 • Public Demo
 • Updates
 • What we are working on right now
 • Early Access

Public Demo

Currently if you want to play an early build of Golden Light you can grab it at two places:
Our gamejolt page: Here
and on Itchio: Here

It is absolutely free and this way you can track our progress on the game so far, as we're constantly updating those builds on both platforms. These builds are fully playable, and we would really love to hear from you guys about what you think on the current state of the game.

Updates

As i've stated before, we are constantly updating the game and about 3 weeks passed since we initially uploaded a build to one of aforementioned platforms. Here i'd like to list a number of important features that made it into the game after the initial build release and that will play a major role in our game later on:

 • Mementos: Mementos are basically skills for your character that you can find on each floor of your journey, and that as well can be bought from various NPCs you'll encounter on your way. Each memento grants you different abbilities. Here's some of them: Permament increase of your max Health/speed, permament decrease of your stamina usage for sprint/dash. Some of them will let you damage enemies when you dash and some will turn you crazy, adding elements of hallucinations into your playthrough.
 • Positive/Negative effects: Some rooms or encounters can poison you, and some might help you out by regenerating your health back. We're working hard on making more of these effects and adding it to the game to increase replaybillity and make each run unique.
 • Hub: After each death you'll now be transported to the hub. This is a calm field with different things to encounter, such as NPCs, items to help you in your next run and other interesting features. Further in game's development the Hub will evolve while you make progress in the game, adding more NPCs and encounters depending on how far did you get on your elevator.
 • Portable map: A lot of players had difficulties with navigation in our tight, sometimes maze-like enviroment, so we've made a portable map that you can take with you and never get lost again! (But be careful, it bites).

Of course there're much more thing we've fixed and added, but we'll inform you about those things in our regular patch notes that we'll be posting once per few days.

What we are working on right now

Currently there is much more stuff that we would like to implement and test out in preparation to our Early Access launch. First and foremost - The first boss fight of Golden Light. We're almost done with 3D art for this very encounter and soon we'll have more things to share.

Also, there's a "tools" mechanic now. Currently player can find a usable item with unknown effects. It is up to you how you would like to test those effects, whether by consuming the item, or by throwing it at your foes. As soon as we're ready to show it - we'll add it to early builds on aforementioned platforms.

We're also hard at work on new enviroments, as hellish office spaces may get boring after a few runs, so we're cooking up something new to add to the visuals as players progress through their journey.

Early Access

As soon as we feel we're ready to take our little game into an open sea of Early Access - we'll do exactly that. The current situation in the world due to Covid-19 leaves it's marks and some of developers on our team has lost their jobs and need to somehow support themselves. We're very determined to finish this game and would also like to do this with the help of our community that may be interested in seeing Golden Light bloom and shine at it's finest. There's no particular date that is set in stone, but we will update you on the matter as soon as "Mr.Pink is ready".
