Golden Light minor update 10.22.2021

Hello everyone, the main branch was updated a few moments ago and here's what's new:

- Various AI related fixes
- Online Co-op stabilization and balance improvements
- Shotgun reloading speed is tied to an amount of necessary ammo to reload
- Keys are less likely to spawn near each other now
- Multiple achievement fixes
- New Boss Weapon: Meatnomicon - drops from Scourge in the Pages biome
- Chinese and Japanese languages added. WiP as with most other languages.
- Preparations for Halloween event.

Book of Meat Update is Live!

Prepare your spoons and forks for another Golden Light meaty major update with a cherry on top in the form of 25%-discount!

[h2]What's new with Book of Meat update:[/h2]

  • New Biome - Pages: A whole new optional biome with library-like floors to explore as well as new enemies and boss to overcome.
  • New Boss Weapon - Needle's Crutch: Needles boss got a little visual overhaul as well as it's own boss weapon. Grab this needle-shooting tool and let your foes know you mean business!
  • Cages biome visual revisit: In previous versions of the game Cages were a bit difficult to see and navigate through, this is why we've decided to revisit it and add a little bit more to it. Now it is indeed a rusty bloody biome that it supossed to be.
  • Memento remover and new NPC: After numerous discussions and suggestions we've finally added a tool that let's you remove unwanted mementos - LOBOTOMIZER. You can buy it from a funny looking fella named "Laugh in Eye" who will randomly appear on the Gut floors.
  • New NPC - Map Mama: A map mimic that will let you buy a map without killing it's precious children.
  • New Memento - They're looking for me: Map mama will try to find you wherever you go.

  • New NPC - Hanging Doctor: An NPC that will randomly appear on the Gut floors and offer you a revival of your pets.

  • New enemies: Stranger in a Bag is added to cages. Beware, they may assault you. And a new kind of mimic that would very like you to read your notes.
  • New mechanic: Enemy pick-ups. From now on mimics and other creatures (including friendlies) can pick up items and carry it around with 'em. You can try and take the item from them but there's a chance they will aggro you for doing so.

  • Co-op Story bits: Co-op mode has story sequences now akin to flashback rooms from single-player. Meat Bros finally have purpose to go down the meat hole!

  • Loot drop rates reworked: Gold amounts as well as probability for some items/weapons to drop from enemies were revisited. Now Eye Takers don't have a 100% chance to drop Meat Spear, Lloyd will drop lots of gold, Glutton drops items etc.

  • Quality of Life improvements: Huge Chin memento doesn't damage you for using it anymore, A more clear way to Biomes on the map for Eternal Field, Achievements added to Meat Garden difficulty (everything except "Ending" achievements) and lots of other stuff.
  • Full Game-pad support added.

  • Korean language added. As with every other language in the game - it's WiP but should be fully playable thanks to our community contributors.

  • Lotsafixes. (and possible new bugs too. You know the drill.)

Price increase, New Full Release Window and Next Major update.


Hello everyone!

For some time we've been busy with our next update and if you aren't a part of our Discord server it very well may have seem a bit silent around Golden Light. To break the silence we got some important news to share.

[h2]Price increase[/h2]

As we've already stated a couple of times both in our update posts and Early Access message on our steam page: we have plans to increase the price of the game. The initial plan was to do that upon release, but after we took time to overview the progress of Golden Light development and an increased scope of the game with features that weren't planned in the very beginning, stuff like Online Co-op, Meat Royale game mode and future additions, we've decided to pull the lever. There's no particular date or time for that, but we expect it to happen very soon after this post goes up. While the price hasn't changed yet - be sure to grab Golden Light if you wanted to for the current price.

[h2]Partnership with a Publisher[/h2]

This may come as a surprise to some (even us, really), but soon we'll become a real indie dev with a Publisher on our side! Currently we're in process of signing up stuff and soon we'll be able to share more about this! This partnership will allow us to continue development of Golden Light comfortably and let us add even more meaty fun to the game, as well as to take more time to polish already existing content.
Speaking on the matter of time, let's jump into next bulletpoint.

[h2]Full Release Window Change[/h2]

Our first plan was to come out of Early Access somewhere in the end of Q3/start of Q4 2021, and now, when we know that we won't die from hunger in the coming months - we've decided to shift full release window to Q1 2022. This way we'll have more time on our hands to add more stuff and polish the game, and for you it means that you'll get even more meaty goodness from Golden Light! With a new release window we won't stop pushing one major update once in two-three months and also can plan for new stuff after full release.

[h2]Next Major Update[/h2]

The next major update is planned to release in a month, although you can experience some parts of it right now on the development branch of the game (alongside with bugs and instabilities that tend to happen on development branches C:
  • Online Co-op story bits and ending
  • New system that lets mimics, monsters and friendly folks to pick up items. Sometimes you'll have to steal it from them!
  • Cages biome visual overhaul to make it more unique, alongside a new enemy
  • Pets improvements and an NPC that lets you heal them
  • New boss weapons
  • New mementos
  • An even more clear visual navigation in the field
  • Lots and lots of bugfixing/co-op stability imrpovements/optimization
  • and more...

30% Discount and update recap

Take a look at this! Golden Light is 30% off for steam summer sale, which is a great opportunity to grab the game at it's cheapest price with Full Release and price increase on the horizon (somewhere around the end of this summer).

This said, let's go through a little recap of what's new and what we've added to Golden Light in the recent times.

What's new:

  • More visual effects: The Gut's halls should be more fun now with new prop effects added to spook you along your journey!

  • The Eternal Field should be more readable now with added props to help you navigate to key points of interest. Overall, the field should now feel more dynamic with an addition of little something.

  • More hub checkpoints and fixes for them: Previously if you died on some of the biomes you were transported to the graveyard instead of somewhere near the biome entrance.

  • Treeters were nerfed

  • A bit easier navigation through Cages biome, which should be improved upon even further closer to full release.

  • Animated meat on live weapons

  • LOTSAFIXES and more minor stuff



But that's not all, if you haven't played the game for a couple of weeks, here's what you can expect by returning to Golden Light:

  • More Boss Weapons: Castle and Meall will now drop their awesome meaty weaponry, Castle's Sword and Meall's Legs. Take them out and try it out!

  • Meat Cops: WEEU WEEU, OPEN UP, THE GUT POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HERE! If you think you'll trick the gut - it'll send you it's meat cops that will give you a ticket and fine with some of your goods.

  • A new item and new effect for that item: Siamese Ravens and Paralasys.

  • Multiple new mementos
