Roots of Pacha 1.3 Sun and Moon Update: A Wealth of New Content

CGM first covered Roots of Pacha for Nintendo Switch back in 2023. After setting my eyes on it for the first time at Summer Game Fest, and as a huge fan of Stardew Valley at the time, I couldn’t help but be obsessed with it.

After spending more than 90 hours on Roots of Pacha on Switch, I still don’t feel like I ever quite scratched the surface of the game—I realize how wild that sounds. For games that I would consider Stardew Valley-likes, that is pretty common, easily sinking hundreds of hours into them. With Coral Island, Roots of Pacha, Fields of Mistria and more all coming out in the last few years, sim lovers have been eating well. That being said, Roots of Pacha has by far been the most intricate and unique of all of them.

That brings us to the Roots of Pacha 1.3 “Sun and Moon” free content update, launching on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch today, April 22. As a Switch player, the Sun and Moon update was only available to me... Read more

Devlog 56: ⭐ 2 Devlogs Until the 1.3 Update

Hello, lovely Pachans!

Things seem to be speeding up around here. There are now only two more devlogs until the 1.3 update drops! For those just joining us, we’ve been counting down devlogs instead of days, as we’d like the press to cover us and help spread the word. So, we have to keep the update release date under wraps for a little while longer.

Now, on to today’s devlog! Be aware of spoilers for new end-game content and mini-games!
Dice
To play dice, you’ll want to chat with Cohh in the Mograni lands. You may have met him at a festival already. Once you play and beat him, you’ll get to play other clan members as well, with a total of 5 people you can play against.

This game is based on “Shut the Box,” a game that dates back to at least the 12th century. In this game, you will roll dice and click the tiles that add up to the number you rolled. The goal is to get the highest score, which will earn you new dice skins. You can also earn new dice by befriending two Mograni.
Performing Music
In the 1.3 update, you’ll be able to play the music mini-game from the Fall Carnival Festival in the Yakuan Islands.

You’ll start with a few songs you can play and earn “notes” to spend on new songs. Perform more to collect the majority of the songs, with two more you can earn by befriending two Yakuans.
Bug Catching
Once you’re invited to the new lands and complete the main story, you’ll gain access to bug catching. In this mini-game, you’ll play notes to herd bugs together and try to catch the largest group you can.

You’ll be able to use this new resource in a number of ways, to heal sick trees, as bait for traps in the Mograni lands, or for line fishing in the Yakuan islands.
Fishing
Who doesn't love to go fishing? Once you develop the idea for line fishing, you’ll gain access to fishing by raft on the mangrove island. In this mini-game, you will try to “reel” in the fish by controlling the tension on the line. When it starts to turn red, that means it is too tight, and your line might snap.
Ball
We mentioned this game in our last devlog, but it had to be included here as well! In this mini-game, you will play a simplified version of foosball against other characters at festivals!

We hope you’ll have fun with these mini-games when version 1.3 drops. We certainly had fun creating them.

As a reminder, we are hosting an AMA on our subreddit, r/RootsOfPacha, on April 25th at 10 AM PDT / 9 PM CEST! You’ll be able to start asking questions a few days in advance if you can’t participate when the AMA goes live. We hope you can make it!

Keep looking to the stars, and we’ll see you again soon in the next devlog!

Devlog 55: ⭐ 3 Devlogs Until the 1.3 Update

Only three more devlogs until the 1.3 Update goes live! 🎉 If you’ve been following along, you know that we need to keep the date a secret a little longer. So, we are counting down devlogs instead. 🥰

On another note. Next week, on April 25th, Roots of Pacha turns 2! It’s been quite a journey, and we’re so glad you could be there with us! The best part of making this game is reading supportive comments from players who are enjoying what we created. It is an honor to bring joy to so many people, especially when the world feels dark at times. Thank you for being a light in our days as well.

To celebrate Roots of Pacha turning 2, we’re doing an AMA over on Reddit next week, Friday, April 25th, at 10 AM PDT / 9 PM CEST! The AMA will be hosted on the r/rootsofpacha subreddit, and you can start asking us questions a few days in advance if you won’t be able to participate when the actual AMA goes live.

Now that we’re in the party mood, this devlog will be about the two new festivals! One Mograni and one Yakuan. Spoilers going forward for themes, dates, a couple of screenshots, and a mini-game.

Now, on to the devlog!
Festival of Lune
This Yakuan festival celebrates the second Child of Pacha, Lune, the moon. It is during this festival we honor our ancestors and thank them for all they went through to ensure our existence.

Once you complete the caves and are invited to the Yakuan lands you will also be invited to this all-important festival on Spring 8. There you can chat with everyone and play a traditional game of “ball.”
Festival of Quro
This Mograni festival celebrates Pacha’s first child, Quro, the sun, and the “inner fire” he gifted to humanity. It is here that the leaders must prove their dedication to Quro and demonstrate their ability to lead through strength.

Once you are invited to the Mograni lands, you will be invited to this festival on Spring 26. There, you will get to chat with everyone and play a game they call “ball.”
Ball
Ball is an ancient pastime similar to what future people might call foosball. This simplified version pits two players against each other in stiff competition.

We can’t wait to celebrate the release of the update with you! Thanks for sticking with us!
Keep looking to the stars, and we’ll see you in the next devlog!

Devlog 54: ⭐ 4 Devlogs Until the 1.3 Update

Welcome back for another Pachan Prophecy! There are only four more devlogs until the 1.3 update releases! Today, we’ll focus on caves!

The Forest caves of Roots of Pacha that you may have already explored held many secrets. Today, we’ll share a bit about the new caves coming in the 1.3 update, where a few new secrets await. We will do our best to tell you about the caves in the upcoming 1.3 update without divulging too much about what you will find inside.

That said! Spoilers are ahead if you choose to dig deeper into the caves.
Sun and Moon Caves
Once you complete the Forest caves, Inza and Zeda will invite you to the new regions we have mentioned before in Devlog 46. There, you will find a closed-off cave in each area. Once you complete the main story, those areas will open up, allowing you to venture into their depths.

Unlike the Forest Caves, breaking rocks won’t open doors, but you may find an interesting new material or two if you try. This time, opening doors will require a “key” in the form of sigils found in the new areas. If this sounds a bit cryptic, worry not; a mysterious visitor will tell you what you need to know when the time is right. (There. I’m glad I could clear that up 😉)
Iron
With new materials come new tools! Chop trees in only two hits, or harvest plenty of fiber for your animals in the savanna. Then, take a moment to appreciate how far we have come from the early days of using our handaxe.
Animal Evolution
While exploring the Sun caves, you’ll come across some tokens that will allow you to breed new kinds of animals like goats, llamas, pigs, chickens, sheep, and cows. You can read more about the new animals in Devlog 47.
Plant Evolution
While exploring the Moon caves, you’ll find 14 long-lost seeds that will allow you to plant evolved versions of plants, like an orange carrot or a yellow tomato. To read more about the new plants in the 1.3, check out Devlog 49.

Thanks for joining us on this journey. We hope you continue to gather around the fire as we tell our tales.

Thank you for your continued support!
