Why it's perfectly fine to draw with a mouse on Shadowforge

Shadowforge is so easy and user friendly when it comes to drawing with the mouse. Even the developer is drawing with the mouse! That says a lot about it.

Wether you want to change the brush angle with the slider or mathematically type it in, it lets you plan your moves before you rock your grooves, so to speak.

With just pressing on two buttons, ALT+ B, your pen tablet fund is being saved for other things already. ALT + B is color overlay painting. Color overlay painting is when you only paint on what you have already painted. That means that the background that is not painted on, will not be painted on. As simple as that.

You only need 10 layers. Why messing around with 130+ layers is a bad idea: picture a room filled with several thin and single paged paperwork. It's messy, and does not keep you occupied with what you really should be doing. Drawing. Not even grouping them does any wonders.

All you need is to lasso the part you want to modify, then move to another layer, and see it pop up right there so you can edit it. Then you can lasso it again, and move it to the first targeted layer (Shadowforge also supports onion skinning) and you're done. It's way more efficient and time saving then having literally a room that needs to be cleaned.

But enough talk about the layers. What makes Shadowforge work great with mice is also that the AI understands where the outlines should be drawn. So all you have to do is click on Outline, and then press enter. You can hold it down to make it thicker if you want to. Or if you're not satisfied with how the outlines are looking (which is pretty much pixel perfect), then at least you have lines to follow.

You don't need a "pen pressure". You can do more than that. With alpha brush, you can draw until the timer goes off and it says "hey, there's no alpha left" and it depends on how fast you move your mouse.

You also have the scale brush and rotation brush, which is something cool on top of the alpha brush ("mice pressure"). Scale brush can be used for calligraphy, perspective painting, and more. While the rotation brush is very much like a wall painting tool.

There's much more that I have not included in this long post. But hey, if you're a pixel artist that loves using the mouse and wants to move on to other more vibrant colored things, then Shadowforge is for you. Even if you're not a pixel artist, and is a pro-mice only painter, then Shadowforge is a very nice drawing software.

Bug fix time

Fixed a bug that made you draw when you click the second time on the canvas.
Fixed a crash when you CTRL + M when you start the software when there was nothing to merge.

How I made one stone floor texture into something else

First of all I want to point out that when you use images from other sources, make sure that it is licensed for free. Use them at your own risk.

Now moving on to how I made Old City Road into this:

First of all, you need to make what you want to retexture white. Either by painting it white, or by shading it white.

Then you use the Brush Optimizer. Print it on the canvas. Next, upload a single or several images with CTRL + SPACE and then randomize it. You have now successfully changed the texture. But wait, the other stuff (gray stuff?) are now cut out/transparent. Well, use Add Clear Assets and then put in a colored background, then stamp it on the canvas again. Now you're done with your amazing transformation.
