The Conquest of Go News

Patch 0.11.2

Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with the game being able to convert moves and move lists of some online matches due to a recent Online Go Server (OGS) update.
  • Fixed an issue with the practice board where the move history was being updated for setup moves (place multiple black/white) on the initial node in the move tree.

Updates:

  • Various changes have been made behind the scenes in the main menu and campaign screens to prepare the game for future localization. For the time being, these changes should have no visible effect, as the game is still only available in English.
  • Changed spelling from "ponuki" to "ponnuki" within the glossary.
  • Changed the "Graphics" tab to "Graphics Settings" within the settings menu.

Patch 0.11.1

This patch removes the ability of the new practice board to affect Steam stats and achievements which are only intended to be updated during actual matches.

Update 0.11.0 - Practice Board and Reverse Komi

  • New Features
    • Practice Board
      • A new option has been added to the quick play menu called the practice board. This allows the player to have more freedom in placing stones on the board to practice. There are several controls which are described below.
        • Alternate Stones - Alternate the stone color after each move is played, similar to a normal match.
        • Swap Color - Swap to the next stone color in alternate stone mode.
        • Place Black - Place only black stones on the board. Placing a stone over an existing stone of the same color will delete it, and placing a stone over a stone of a different color will delete the original stone and place the new stone. Using the right click mouse button allows the player to place a stone of the opposite color, in this case white.
        • Place White - Place only white stones on the board. The same delete and right click functionality above applies.
        • Clear Board - Reset and clear all stones from the board.
    • Reverse Komi
      • Komi is the number of starting points that white receives in order to offset the advantage that black gets by playing first. Typically, this is a value between 5.5-7.5, with the .5 ensuring that a tied match does not occur. Reverse komi allows black to instead receive starting points, and is used to offset a difference in skill level between players.
      • Quick play matches now support the ability to set a negative komi value which will give the points to black.
      • The campaign mode now supports an option to convert handicap stones into reverse komi. This option is available in the campaign settings menu which can be accessed from the top right of the campaign map screen. In this new mode, instead of starting a match with handicap stones, the player will instead start with an additional 6 points for each handicap stone, starting by offsetting white's initial 6.5 komi points.
  • Updates
    • Custom variations created in review mode of saved matches accessed through the quick play menu are now able to be saved using the save file button at the top right while reviewing. Saving custom variations of campaign matches will come in a future update.
    • The komi field for quick match has been converted from a slider to a stepper control to more easily input komi and reverse komi values.
    • While resuming play or reviewing a saved match accessed through the quick play menu, the default file name will be set to the saved match file name, allowing you to easily overwrite the file, or change the name to create a new file.
    • A new warning message will display when returning to the main menu after completing a quick play match, letting the user know they have an unsaved match record which can be saved for later review.
    • Matches in the active match list of online profiles are now ordered to show the matches that have the least available time first. As before, if viewing your own profile, the list will first be sorted to show matches that are currently your turn, and then by least time remaining.
    • The move tree view will now display nodes that have no move, such as a setup node in the practice board to place multiple black and white stones, as a stone that is both black and white.
    • The move history list will now display all individual moves during tutorials instead of clearing the list when setup of multiple stones or removals is encountered.
    • Audio for stones being added or removed will now be played for cases where there are only setup stones instead of a single move. These can occur during tutorials and the practice board.
    • The star points on the board grid now have a minimum size which will make them more visible when using a low line thickness setting.
    • Several new game records have been added to the list of matches that are randomly selected and automatically played through in the background of the main menu.
    • The volume of the countdown warning which is played when time remaining is under 5 seconds has been reduced to more closely match other sound effects.
  • Fixes
    • Fixed a grid line display issue for large board sizes while using a line thickness setting of 2.
    • Fixed an issue which was causing duplicate stone connection images to be created during tutorials under some circumstances.
    • Fixed the ability to save a quick play match in progress when the match reaches the scoring phase, but the player chooses to resume play and continue the game.
    • Fixed saving a quick play match record with the correct match result when a player loses by time.
    • Fixed an issue causing the match result of saved quick play matches to be displayed as a score estimate even if the match ended without passing (e.g. resignation, time) if the player requested an AI score estimate.
    • Fixed an issue with the game information panel displaying the wrong handicap value for campaign invasion matches.

Patch - 0.10.1

  • Fixed an issue which was causing existing matches that are resumed to show an "Illegal Move" message when playing stones.
  • Fixed the move tree view to correctly reveal variations that rank lower than a variation that is played.

Update 0.10.0 - Match Review Improvements

  • New Features
    • Players can now try their own variations while reviewing matches and are no longer restricted to only the AI review recommendations and moves from the match. The analysis features can be used while playing custom variations to view optimal responses to any move. Moves are also added to the move tree view as they are played.
    • The campaign review and move recommendation review functions have now been consolidated into one function. If there is a completed AI review with recommendations for a match and the review button is clicked, the recommendations will also be loaded. Analysis features (board analysis, territory analysis, win rate graph, score graph) are available to be used during review, with the exception of the move analysis being restricted while the player is guessing the top AI recommendation for additional resources.
    • AI recommendations will now be loaded into the move tree view and will display as "?" if the player has not reviewed or guessed the recommendations. Upon guessing a move recommendation, the coordinates of the variation and variations for recommendations that rank lower will be revealed. The "show best move" button will also reveal the coordinates for all variations.
    • For campaign matches completed after this release, if there is an AI review completed for the match, the win rate and score graphs will be prepopulated with data from the review. Bear in mind, since the review only analyzes the player's moves, only win rate and score data for the player's moves will be populated. As moves are played out during the review, these values will be overwritten with new analysis data as more accurate data is received and as different moves are played. As always, you can adjust the balance of review accuracy and time the review takes to complete by adjusting the maximum review visits (lower = faster review/less accurate, higher = slower review/more accurate) field in the AI settings menu.
    • The campaign review panel which shows the progress of reviews will now display a row for each review in progress that has been completed, allowing the player to click the view button which will display the particular match result and move recommendation buttons.
    • Returning to the campaign map from a match now has separate buttons to return to the campaign map or to return to the specific map region.
    • Quick match files located under Quick Play > Saved Matches can now be deleted from within the game by clicking the Manage Save Files checkbox and clicking the X button at the top right of any match file.
    • A match details panel is now available while playing a match to view details of a match such as handicap, komi, ruleset, campaign region, match name, ranked, and private depending on what type of match is taking place (online, local, campaign). To access the match details panel, click the new information button located at the top right of the match screen.
    • A new setting has been added to the audio settings menu which allows players to optionally allow the game audio to continue when the game window has lost focus. The default value is to mute audio when the game window has lost focus.
  • Updates
    • The move tree panel will now display by default when reviewing matches.
    • The match details list in the match record navigation panel is now able to be expanded and collapsed. When reviewing a match with recommendations, the match details will automatically collapse after the first move in order to make space for move recommendation data.
    • The icons to gather resources within the campaign will now appear larger on large board sizes such as 19x19, making them easier to find.
    • The actions panel (return to campaign, rematch, return to main menu, etc.) is now positioned at the top of the list so that it will appear above the win rate and score graphs when they are open.
  • Fixes
    • Fixed a bug which was not properly marking the next move while reviewing a match, using the board analysis feature, and clicking the previous move button.
    • Fixed a bug in move tree view where the path to a move may load incorrectly when clicked if several moves of the same coordinate existed on the same row, but in separate columns.
    • Fixed a bug where stone graphics for atari/non-atari may not display properly when using instant stone loading, such as using the tree view for navigation.
    • Fixed a bug where captures occurring earlier in an online match were not properly included in the score estimate during the stone removal phase of a match that has rules which include prisoner scoring.
