🔧 Update V0.3.9.14 is live; bringing changes and bug fixes!



Greetings friends!

After we already released a new update last Friday, which among other things brought the Tech Tree of the demo back into the full game, we have released another update today, which contains some changes and fixes:

Minor Changes
  • Further improvement of vehicle position synchronization in multiplayer
Bug Fixes
  • Sometimes the player did not have enough parts to complete one of the tutorials in the tech tree career. This should now not happen anymore
  • Fixed a small bug that caused the garage window to be in a bugged state, when the game is unable to read some of the save game files. Only occurred in rare cases, but should be fixed now
  • Fixed the small text not appearing, that says which challenges are needed to be driven, when hovering an unlockable part in the tech tree

The Tech Tree is back with Screw Drivers Update v0.3.9.11!

Right in time for the weekend we've added update v0.3.9.11 to Screw Drivers! And it brings back a featurethat many of you have been asking for: The tech tree! 🥳 And adds more: A bunch of bug fixes, the mini map, ...

Major Changes
  • The Tech Tree is back! We heard your feedback, and we also love our sweet tech tree, so we thought hard and tried to fuse it with the challenges of our current island map. You can now play both career modes independently. Each career has its own progress, so you can always switch back and forth and play whichever you like more. Let us know what you think, we are always eager to hear your feedback on anything!
  • We just could not hold ourselves back. The Mini Map was planned for much later in the early access, but we were hyped about it, so we added it xD The mini map should help you in the ranklist career to find missing chests easier now. And it looks cool 😄
Minor Changes
  • You can now adjust the engine sounds separately in the audio settings menu. This ensures that your ears won’t start bleeding
  • The PW-Blaze 1000 now has a slight red tone to it, which makes it more distinguishable from the PW-Blaze 600. Same goes for IgnCore-250 and IgnCore-125
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the super blooming flowers by rooting them up. You should now no longer be blinded by our game. Oh well, the bloom in general is still pretty high, we are almost finished fixing that
  • Fixed game lagging for a couple of seconds when it tries to show the radar trap leaderboard
  • Some people had slight performance issues since the last update, where we added customizable graphics settings. This should now be fixed again
  • Fixed the accidental removal of the Axle x6 and Axle x7. They also made a big comeback

Update V0.3.9.5 is live; adding graphics options, bug fixes, etc.



Hello all!

Marc and me added another bunch of missing textures, and I accidentally annoyed you all with spamming chat messages in the multiplayer. That should be gone now. 😄 And also, you can adjust your graphics settings now individually. 🥳

Oh and I tried to optimize the lagging in multiplayer. If that worked, or if I broke the multiplayer, we'll find out. 😄

Multiplayer
  • Fixed a bug, where the chat window got spammed with messages all the time
  • Improved the synchronization. Maybe now the lagging is improved, when a lot of players are driving around at the same time
Minor Changes
  • You can now customize the graphics settings. We still have not added all the possible options there, but instead of the three presets “Low”, “Medium” and “High”, you can now customize some graphics options individually
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed some more missing textures
  • When playing the game with controller, the right DPad button triggered the undo action in the building editor, while the part shop was open. This now no longer happens

What an incredible few days since the launch of Screw Drivers. We just wanted to say some words to you.

We are overwhelmed by both you guys and your creations! ❤️ The Steam Workshop exploded with so many new, unique, and awesome vehicles, and it makes us so happy to see your screenshots, videos, and everything in our community Discord!

We have been busy reading all your feedback from discussion and reviews. We have seen many people having issues with the game crashing and the overall performance.

Over the weekend, we have tirelessly turned every piece of texture, water, and UI element upside down and optimized it as much as possible. Version 0.3.9.4 of Screw Drivers is available since Saturday. We hope that it works and that it fixes the issues you are having. Please let us know if it worked!

There has also been a lot of feedback regarding the changes to the campaign and the tech tree, and we are looking into how we can bring it back.

Thank you all again for providing us with so much content and feedback and, of course, playing our game! Please keep the feedback coming so we can keep improving the game.

[h3]Full Changelog:[/h3]

Performance Optimization We heavily optimized the resources usage and the performance of the game. Some people had problems, where the game wouldn’t load or even crash, so we tried to optimize as much as we could as fast as possible. That’s why currently there are some missing textures in the game, which will be fixed in the next coming patch.

Optimization
  • We now optimized the destructible objects in the game. They now use much less memory.
Minor Changes
  • If you host and connect to your own server, you are now assigned to be the host of the server, and this does not change anymore if you disconnect. So even if the host leaves the server, he will be re-assigned to be the host when joining the server again.
  • Added the arrows on the ground of the building editor again (Sorry they went missing)


Bug Fixes
  • Air control should now be controlled with WASD as well, because I noticed, that not all keyboards have a numpad. Sorry for that. You can still switch back to numpad if you have one in the general settings.
  • The server list in the main menu is now scrollable. We never thought that so many people start their own servers this quickly, and since we never tested this, I forgot.
  • The game should no longer detect any controller input or drifting controller sticks when playing with a keyboard and mouse. To ensure this, you can force the game to use keyboard and mouse only in the general settings menu.
  • Fixed some more missing textures. There are still not all of them fixed, but some more have been added to the game again.
  • Fixed the undo button for controller being assigned to left DPad, which is the same button as opening the parts shop. Undo is now assigned to right DPad.
  • Fixed transport challenge. When being too good and delivering all 12 crates, you did not receive any rewards. Now you do get rewards for being a master at this challenge.
  • Fixed typo in the first tutorial.
  • Fixed a bug, where you could instantly teleport to the goal of some challenges by playing them once, then restarting them and immediately pressing ‘DEL’ after the race started again.
  • Fixed the spawn point of prince of gears challenge, which was a little too high in the air.

Screw Drivers is Out Now in Early Access!

The wait is finally over! Screw Drivers is out now in Early Access!

Get your tools and start building! There is a new complete map, new challenges, and new records to beat! Who will take first place on the leaderboards? Screw Drivers lets you explore your creativity, without limits on what you can create. Combine various parts and create a quick racer, or maybe a big bulldozer that can take down the harshest obstacles in the new map.

[h3]NEW MAP[/h3]
With the Early Access release, we will introduce a new map to explore. The map features different spawn points, which you can discover, as well as new building blocks and part colors hidden throughout the island.

[h3]NEW CARRER[/h3]
We have added a brand-new single-player career mode and challenges. Instead of the old "Speed King", "Stunt Queen", and "Crash King" tracks, we now have new types of challenges. We have built an entire career around these new challenges on the first island. You need to earn a bronze medal in each challenge to compete with one of the five monarchs to unlock new building blocks and additional challenges.

[h3]NEW GARAGE UI[/h3]
We've redesigned the garage UI for the game. Your vehicles are now arranged in a grid, and you can organize them into up to six categories.

[h3]MULTIPLAYER[/h3]
We have added a multiplayer feature! You can now host your own dedicated servers and join with friends to drive around freely, create your own challenges, or compete in the existing career challenges. We are also working on new multiplayer game modes, which will be available soon!

[h3]FULL CHANGELOG OF V0.3.9.1 [/h3]

New Features
  • New map: The map is now an island with completely new roads, beautiful water without physics and two glorious tunnels. 
  • New career: There are now five monarchs you have to beat. In order to challenge them, you have to gain the 
  • bronze medal in all previous challenges. After beating a challenge, you will gain new building blocks. 
  • All over the map there are small white flags. If you discover them, you unlock a new spawn point which allows you to jump into free drive at the new location. 
  • There are now also some treasure chests hidden on the island. They contain even more building blocks which you can find and unlock 
  • The car classes have changed to ranks now. Your car automatically gets assigned a rank between F and S+, based on all the computed properties like max speed, acceleration, weight etc. 
  • Accordingly, there are also leaderboards for each challenge and for each rank, as well as a global leaderboard for each challenge. 
  • We created a whole new UI for the garage and the car selection. This arranges the vehicles in a grid, and you can organize them in up to six categories. 
  • New movement in building editor: Now the camera will not follow your mouse movements directly anymore. Instead, you can move the mouse freely and rotate the camera by holding the right mouse button down. 
  • Added a small UI panel showing all the building controls and keybindings. It can be hidden and shown by pressing F1. 
  • Added an interactive early access roadmap to the main menu.
The New Challenges
  • Ghost race: Race against the three medals: Bronze, Silver and Gold. There are no collisions with the ghosts, so you just have to drive the track as fast as possible 
  • A to B race: Drive through the first checkpoint, and then try to reach the goal checkpoint as fast as possible. It doesn't matter with route you take, just get there as fast as you can. 
  • Long jump: Jump over the ramp in front of you, and try to jump as far as possible. 
  • Destroy opponent: There is an AI car driving away from you. Try to stop it as fast as possible, before it reaches its destination. Crash into it, drive it off the road. 
  • Transport challenge: A couple of boxes and goods will be dropped onto your vehicle. Transport as many of them as you can to the destination as fast as possible.
Multiplayer
  • Added multiplayer in general 
  • You can now host your own dedicated server from the main menu. Make sure to forward the given ports in your router like described in the short explanation in the main menu. You can now send your car to other players in multiplayer.
Minor Changes
  • Added FPS limit and V-Sync options to the graphics settings menu. 
  • The camera now adjusts its angle when driving up or down a steep hill. 
  • Added a retry button to the result screen of a challenge. 
  • When you're standing still for more than a couple of seconds, a small hint is displayed showing that you can repair or reset with 'R' or DEL. 
  • When you've unlocked a new building block, a small "New" panel will be shown in the parts menu. 
  • When browsing the Steam Workshop in the game, you can now sort the vehicles by most recent, most popular, most subscribers and only show the items created by your friends. 
  • We added some spinning objects on the map, that can destroy your vehicle if you come too close 
  • The checkpoints in races now have a slightly glowing and half transparent arch to make them more visible. 
  • The air control has now moved towards the numpad. This way you can control the car in the air independently from the WASD keys.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed bluetooth engines. Before, you could build vehicles with detached engine blocks. The engine blocks would fall down when spawning, and you were able to drive away with full power, but without the additional weight of the engines. This is no longer possible. The car will now show errors, if you build such a car, and you first have to attach the engines to the rest of the car. 
  • Added a new settings entry in general settings, where you can change the input device mode. This allows you to switch between auto detecting input device, or force the game to use keyboard or controller input. This should prevent some of the issues the game has with automatically detecting controller input. 
  • If no car is selected in the garage, you can no longer click the "Edit" button, which caused the game to go into a bugged state. 
  • Reduced the insanely high bloom (light reflections) in the building editor. Now you won't be blinded as easily anymore.
