Task Force Admiral Dev Update - May/June 2021

[h2]Hi there everyone!
[/h2]

Considering not everybody is on Twitter or Facebook, we felt that a new post was needed in order to properly keep you updated about our progress here on Steam. And considering everything is so much cuter with videos & music, we decided to go the extra mile and put all of them shorter snippets of tech into a longer, more relevant video. Hope you'll enjoy the contents! There's a little bit of everything, and possibly enough to convince you that although we're not quite there yet, every single day brings up a bit closer to our destination and our dreams.

It's not all of it, we had a few other little updates to show you - especially when it comes to our beautiful Catalinas - but don't hesitate to pay a regular visit to these threads on the discussion board, where Foxman, one of our fans, kindly posts our updates taken from other platforms.

[h2]Cardboard Wildcats are cool too![/h2]

A special kind of announcement today, as we wanted to introduce you to a great project which will certainly leave a mark in the heart of all PTO carrier lovers - especially those among you who don't know what to do until our game finally comes out!❤

Allow us to introduce you to Fighters of the Pacific, a strategy boardgame being currently kickstarted for another 14 jours (yeah that's close!)

To the Kickstarter campaign👉
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/338597945/fighters-of-the-pacific?ref=f2q5hm

This game is also being made by a few Frenchmen, which seems to be a rather common occurrence as far as carriers and PTO are concerned these days (you do remember about Carrier Battles 4 PC? That was yet from another frog-legged gentleman!). They are cool people, they deserve your friendship & your support if you're into this.

As you can see on their KS page, it’s not like they are not encountering a roaring success in their campaign already. Truth be told, they are unlocking new stretch goals nearly on a daily basis, and I don’t know how much we can contribute by giving them a shout now, but it sure feels like the right thing to do. It looks great, it plays great, it is made by great guys, and it is going to deliver all the way, so why not join the hype train?

Of course, on our side there’s always the pressure of being the only French-based carrier game out there not to have released or KS’ed just yet, but in the meantime you can’t say there isn’t stuff to keep you (and your kid) properly entertained, ammarite!😁
Again, just a few hours left, so don't lose time I you feel their vibe. And just so you know, we're not getting a cent out of this little ad, it's really from the heart.

Anyway, see you over the deep blue Pacific, whether your Wildcat is made of pixels or cardboard!😎
Take good care of yourselves, ya'll!

Don't worry crowd, Task Force Admiral is still alive & well!

Dear all,

We haven't been posting much as of late because we have been very, very busy working on the game proper and a new collab with our good pal Military Aviation History.

Big thanks to him for his kind proposal for yet another great collab, recounting the valor & the woes of Hornet's air group on the first day of the Battle of Midway. A lot of effort went into this video - please enjoy!
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In that regard, before we get crucified by rivet counters, allow me to add a few things :

- First of all, sorry ofc for all the work in progress stuff that shows left & right. Naturally, final game will have an animated landing gear, and sound effects are also far from final. There's a lot of placeholder stuff, but we need to focus on the core functions these days. We'll make sure to come back to these later ;

- We didn't have the TBD model with twin defensive 30s available, so they are pictured here with a single gun. John Waldron was known to have used all the extras he could find from the SBD squadrons, hopefully we will be able to allow for this "custom type" to show up in the final game ;

- Mea Culpa in terms of research - we had all numbers on the Hornet planes painted black. A very obvious photograph you can check later in the video reminds us that, actually, although TBDs as showed on the John Ford reels had their numbers painted in black, SBDs had their numbers painted in white. It's all my fault, don't blame Chris for that, don't hate us too much for that either! Will totally be corrected in-game though ;

- In regard of numbers proper, we all did our best considering that a lot of sources remain rather cryptic about them - a rather logical situation considering we hardly even know what happened during the flight at all when reading from the report. If you happened to have a better source regarding one plane or the other, again, apologies in advance!

- Yes, Soryu was probably attacked by Ens Gay from the other side, but considering it was very cinematic, we just left it like that. Blame our artistic licence...

There, I don't doubt that some of you will find other bothering discrepancies, but these were the ones bothering me most. Thank you all again for your kind understanding, and hopefully we'll get it a little better every time!

So, yeah.

We have not been idle, and those among you who have been following us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram certainly have seen a lot of good dope being posted over the last few weeks.

Still, we do understand that not everyone is willing to sell one's soul to the big GAFA tribe, and we certainly respect that - myself (Amiral) for one, I came to them only when forced by the terrible laws implied by marketing a game. Thing is, we'd post much more on Steam if it wasn't for the extra effort every single post requires in here (truly it is harrowing, believe me...) and the comparatively limited reach to the community - aka, most of the time, relatively few people even get to see the posts. At all. We'll work harder on that in the upcoming weeks, I promise. The least we can do is to make sure that as many people as possible will get some idea of what we're working on.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

All the while, we did have a big wave of newcomers last week following kind coverage from them gentlemen at gamestar.de. Some new footage was posted then, and if you're a German speaker, you should definitely give that video a shot too!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Hope these little nuggets of contents will keep you busy for now. Until the next update, just make sure to keep taking care, and to follow us on any of our social account if you want to have that fresh dope before the others do!

Cheers & see you all around soon

[CONTEST] Win a key to play Until the Last Plane on release day!

[h2]So! We came to know Carlo a little more than a year ago if my memory doesn't fail me too badly.[/h2]

We were indie, he was indie, and we were making games about planes. We go along together and we did help each other along the way. Since then, even though we did make real progress, our game isn't here quite yet - but his is releasing not next month, not next week, but in the next hours actually!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1240550/Until_the_Last_Plane/

Until the Last Plane is about managing your cute airfield in one of the 9 campaigns available in this first release of the game, where you are allowed to play as the USAF, the VVS (the Soviet Air Force) or the Luftwaffe. Bring your digital opponent down by managing carefully your assets, and make sure that you complete as many objectives as possible - it is all about permanent crisis management for you and your pixel pilots. It does take a fine amount of smart shenanigans to make sure that you will not throw your forces away by committing them to an impossible tempo.

It might not seem much, but I can tell you, it's quite entertaining and addicting both! Don't take my word for it, just ask Rimmy & Nookrium what they thought of it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0FVP-WP-X4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7OL7KDH3iQ

All in all, his game is naturally very different from ours, but it is the same kind of love and dedication for what we do that powers us all in making what we want to play. Carlo has kindly provided me with three keys for you to grab. Wanna try your luck?

[h3]Just post in the comments below an actual quote from a WW2 Allied or Axis flying Ace and name him/her when doing so, and you will enter the draw![/h3]

Obviously, anybody posting twice or more will be disqualified immediately. Winners will be notified directly, as always! This event will end at 2:00 AM EST tomorrow, so don't miss your chance!

In the meantime, everybody have a great day & stay safe!

New Task Force Admiral footage featured on Military Aviation History on Youtube!

Hear Hear, dear fans!

Great thanks to Chris from Military Aviation History & Justin Pyke for this charming (and challenging) collab opportunity!

Loads of original never-seen Task Force Admiral footage featured today in this video which will tell you about the death ride of 4.Kokutai against USS Lexington in February 1942 off Bougainville. During this combat action, Lexington came very close to disaster. A lot of suspense and luck involved. Lady Lex scrambles her planes under fire, two suicidal Betties try to ram her, a SBD shoots down a bomber, Butch O'Hare becomes Ace in a day... Quite the eventful afternoon if you ask me!

We feature prominently in the first half, but any fan of the PTO is obviously highly encouraged to watch this one. Lots of contents and trivia you will certainly find both interesting and entertaining.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

And don't forget to check out also Michael Claringbould & Peter Ingman's fantastic work published by Avonmore Books, which was abundantly used and quoted in the making of this video, and have been very supportive of us. Cheers & have a good one!
