Remnant 2 review - multiversal madness

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Remnant 2 sits boldly yet comfortably at the intersection of multiple genres. Gunfire Games has cherry-picked the best aspects of roguelikes, soulslikes, and looter shooters, to create a compelling patchwork of mechanics that's quite unlike anything else. It's also fiendishly easy to approach it with preconceived notions of how Remnant 2 should perform. Those looking for a laidback, arcade-style shooter similar to Borderlands may be brought up short by the presence of invincibility frames and robust enemies, while die-hard souls-like fans may balk at the overwhelming focus on gunplay.

Remnant II review: fast, brutal combat meets procedural dimension-hopping in this ambitious sequel

Remnant II has a lot of moments that will make you say things not appropriate for children’s ears. Then again, given the mild horror themes in many of the levels and the general terror the excellent enemy design invokes, you probably shouldn’t be playing it around kids in the first place. As a fan of this sequel’s predecessor, Remnant: From The Ashes, I had my hopes set unreasonably high, and not only has Remnant II completely met my expectations, but it also kept messing around with what I thought I should be expecting. It left me in a constant state of awe. This is a furiously ambitious follow-up and has everything I could have ever wanted.

Is Remnant 2 Steam Deck compatible? Remnant 2 looks set to reinvigorate Gunfire Game's take on the Soulslike genre, pitting you and your comrades against god-like bosses, armed with an arsenal of guns.
