Beyond the Borderlands #1: Making a Vault Hunter

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]
Before we all crash-land into Kairos and break free from the Timekeeper's reign, the Borderlands 4 team wants to give you a peek behind the scenes—Beyond the Borderlands, if you will—at what goes into creating the badass, loot-chasing Vault Hunters that have always been the beating heart of the series.

If you've played a Borderlands game before, you know that whichever Vault Hunter you choose has a huge impact on your playstyle and the personality you inhabit throughout the campaign. In the video above, you'll hear directly from Creative Director Graeme Timmins, Managing Director of Narrative Lin Joyce, Art Director Adam May, Lead Game Designer Nick Thurston, and Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson about how Gearbox devises each of these unique gun-toting protagonists.

Once you've watched, make sure you're also caught up on April's Gameplay Trailer and Gameplay Deep Dive, and the VOD of May's Gearbox Main Theater Show from PAX East.

Borderlands 4 is now available for pre-purchase! While you wait for the game's launch on September 12, 2025, keep your eyes peeled for more Beyond the Borderlands videos that detail the making of Borderlands 4![/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]

Claptrap is also back in Borderlands 4, but this time Gearbox is introducing a new feature so you can shut him up.

All Borderlands 4 legendary weapons we've seen so far

What are all the Borderlands 4 legendary weapons so far? Fortunately, Gearbox has confirmed that legendaries are rarer and harder to obtain in Borderlands 4, making them feel well earned when encountering a tough boss fight or randomly stumbling on them thanks to sheer luck.

Both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 had a tricky time with finding the right balance when it came to legendary loot, and although there are some returning fan favorites, it's the new inventions we're most looking forward to getting our hands on in Borderlands 4. As the Borderlands 4 release date approaches, we've already seen some of the legendary weapons coming to the looter shooter.

Borderlands 4 system requirements

The Borderlands 4 system requirements have been revealed, and they're a lot more demanding than we expected. Despite this, there appears to be no upscaling used to meet the requirements, which is a big positive compared to the likes of FBC Firebreak and Hell is Us.

You aren't going to need the best gaming PC to run Borderlands 4, let's make that clear nice and early. However, the specs start a little higher than a lot of other modern 3D games, meaning some upgrades could be required if you're going to want to play at 4K with a solid 60fps frame rate.
