There were Rippers riding couches, apartment demolitions, a gun-wielding bunny, a driving dog, and… an elephant?! A lot of people came together to pull off these stunts and practical effects as an homage to the chaos that happens in the Borderlands universe every day. Check out these behind-the-scenes shots from the Quit Earth project:[/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p]
Behind the Team: Joel McDonald, Borderlands 4 Voiceover Producer
[p]Every week, we’re spotlighting one of the minds behind the mayhem. You’ll get to learn about folks from both Gearbox and 2K, and how each person who touches the game both influences and is influenced by Borderlands 4. This week, we're talking with Joel McDonald, Gearbox’s Voiceover Producer:[/p][p][/p][p]How do you work with writers, directors, and actors to bring characters to life?[/p][p]Every game dev is a storyteller in their own way. By the time a new character gets to the VO Direction department, artists, and designers, and writers, and others have all put their fingerprints on who these characters are and what their story is. It’s our job to honor our coworkers by casting the exact right actor to do justice to the wonderful new character they’ve created. That means we need to start with a deep understanding of what got the character to that point in the process, as well as everyone’s needs, wants, and expectations. [/p][p]Once we’ve had those conversations, have a solid foundation, and found the perfect actor to fill the role, the next step is helping to further elevate the material – art, dialog, etc. – through performance. Everyone else in the process has had time to play, experiment, and maybe even trip and backtrack a time or two. We make sure our actors have those same opportunities. In the booth, we try to gently guide our actors as they “find” the character we’ve tasked them with bringing to life, all while staying faithful to the folks who brought it to us.[/p][p][/p][p]What’s the most rewarding part of seeing a character concept go from script to fully voiced character?[/p][p]For me, it’s seeing those moments that already worked beautifully on the page get brought to life. It’s getting the laughs in the right spots, catching the audience off guard and making them think or tear up… and earning the silence when we can. But mostly, I think it’s that moment when I realize the actor barely needs me anymore. When they understand their role, when they’ve internalized who they are and what motivates them, I get to fade into the background and enjoy the fireworks. I like fireworks.[/p][p][/p][p]If your life had a narrator, whose voice would you want it to be and why?[/p][p]Gabe Kunda. If you know, you know.[/p][p][/p]
Community Creative Corner
[p]Our community members aren’t just gamers—many of you are also artists. Whether it’s cosplay, digital art, or some yet-to-be-invented medium, we’re your biggest fans. Check out this week’s hand-picked fan creations:[/p]
moth_bitez
[p][/p]

rottenzone
[p][/p]
1ncend1ary
[p][/p][p]That’s it for this week—more updates, more chaos, and maybe a few surprises coming next Friday. Until then: keep your ECHOnet tuned and your loot luck high.[/p][p]Happy Hunting,
