Simple, powerful Civilization 7 mod fixes one of the worst problems with its UI

One of my biggest annoyances with the Civilization 7 UI is its lack of quick feedback. The new 4X game hasn't landed the way developer Firaxis would have wanted, with low Steam review scores four months on from launch. Big fixes are in the works, however, and the most recent update feels like the start of a climb in the right direction. But there are some problems that can be more immediately fixed, and modders have done exactly that with the introduction of a tool to easily see exactly the effect of new policies.

Civilization 7 just hit its lowest price ever

History has a knack for repeating itself, at least that's what "they" say. Not with Civilization 7 though, nuh-uh. Developed by Firaxis Games, this is the seventh installment of the iconic turn-based strategy game, which allows you to conquer the land of a bygone era lost to history and take the crown for yourself.
From the Devs: Loading Screen & Future UI
[p]This month kicks off the beginning of a larger endeavor to improve UI, with more visible UI changes on top of the regular UI improvements added in each update. You may have noticed a redesigned Loading Screen with new voice-overs from Gwendoline Christie in your latest game of Civ VII. You’ll also be met with a new leader portrait, info panels, tips and hints, and a new fully narrated and rewritten intro, giving you that burst of inspiration as you make your journey through history. Something Just For You!
Game Settings Our Devs Enjoy
[p]Custom game settings are here! This means you can fine-tune Civilization VII just the way you like. If you want to increase the AI difficulty to apocalyptic levels, remove certain Victory types, or play with specific Crisis conditions, the choice is yours. Check out some of our devs’ favorite settings, and maybe you’ll find something new to enjoy.[/p][p][/p]
Shaun Wilson (QA Lead) - Preferred Settings:
[p]“I find the Plague Crises to be the most fun with the Unique Units and interactions. I LOVE the extended Age length because I like the extra time in the Age. Bypass civ unlocks let me do awesome civ combos.”[/p]
  • [p]Age Length: Extended[/p]
  • [p]Difficulty: Immortal[/p]
  • [p]Crises Picker:  Only Plague Crises on[/p]
  • [p]Bypass Civilization Unlock: On
    [/p]
Edward Zhang (Systems Designer) - Preferred Settings:
[p]"I only play on Deity difficulty because that’s where I find the real challenge. My favorite Crisis is the Barbarian Invasion since I usually play as a warmonger. I always disable Score Victory because it hits the brakes in the Modern Era once Age Progression reaches 100%—that is a joy-killer to me."[/p]
  • [p]Difficulty: Deity[/p]
  • [p]Crises Picker: Only Barbarian Invasion Crises on[/p]
  • [p]Victory Picker: Disable Score Victory[/p]
  • [p]Everything Else: Standard
    [/p]
Ed Beach (Creative Director) - Preferred Settings:
[p]“I’m looking for a challenging game, but I don't want to min-max every move, so I prefer a difficulty that’s not fully maxed out. Sometimes, I try a custom difficulty with Science/Culture/Tech Costs/Civic Costs dropped to Sovereign, but everything else still at Immortal. This helps prevent the AI from running away through the Tech Tree.”[/p]
  • [p]Difficulty: Immortal [/p]
  • [p]Game Speed: Standard[/p]
  • [p]Map Type: Fractal (always been my favorite)[/p]
  • [p]Map Size: Large (nice to have this back!)[/p]
  • [p]Initial Independent Hostility: Hostile[/p]
  • [p]Disaster Intensity: Catastrophic
    [/p]

Mighty Civilization 7 update adds Huge maps, but beware, your PC might struggle to run them

Sid Meier's Civilization VII has received another big update, as the rather divisive 4X strategy game wrangles with a mostly negative user review consensus on Steam.

The latest Civ 7 update adds large and huge maps, each with a default of 10 players in single player and eight (including AI) in multiplayer. Developers Firaxis are working on supporting 12 players for Huge maps, but need more time to ensure that this doesn't scuttle game stability and performance. As it is, they caution that "bigger maps have bigger hardware demands" and that you might see "slower turn times or performance drops, especially on lower end hardware."
