Civilization 7 cheats and how to enable the debug console

What are the Civ 7 cheats? You can't build a glorious Civilization 7 empire without a firm handle on diplomacy, economics, strategy, and... cheats? Well, while completely optional, cracking open the game's debug console and tweaking a few parameters can give you a massive advantage if the AI is giving you a hard time.


Before you can get into the Civilization 7 debug console, you'll have to jump through a couple of hoops first. Don't worry, as we're here to guide you through every step. Once enabled, the 4X game will let you do everything from removing the fog of war to quickly advancing the Civ 7 Ages. More on that below.

Hello Civ fans,

Today we're pushing out a small patch to address some immediate Advanced Access game issues. We are reading and collecting all of your player feedback, and while we'll have more to share on future patches at a later time, you can read our recent post to learn more about what we're prioritizing for the game in the meantime.

Today's patch is a focused set of fixes we had the ability to quickly and confidently ship. Please continue to send us your feedback on Steam and Discord.

Patch notes
  • General game stability improvements, including regional game crashes
  • Fixed a bug for players on Mac that were experiencing Mac system sounds whenever keypresses were made in game

Civilization 7's Steam reviews are very bad, but Firaxis has a rescue plan

07/02/2025 Firaxis has deployed a hotfix for Civilization 7 that improves the 4X game's stability and prevents some issues with crashing.


Civilization 7 was always going to struggle. Compared to Civ 6, and, in fact, the rest of Firaxis' defining 4X series, it feels a lot leaner, trimmer, and more streamlined - the big changes to combat and the new Ages are going to bother some long-time fans, and the weight of expectation, especially in the age of Manor Lords, Stellaris, and Endless Space, is extremely large. It is different. But there's a great game in here. Nevertheless, the initial Civilization 7 Steam launch is not going well. Only 47% of reviews are positive. Firaxis is aware of the problems and has issued a statement about how it plans to make Civ 7 better.
