In the midst of Civilization 7 UI woes, Firaxis hire prolific modder

Civilisation VII studio Firaxis have welcomed prolific modder Sukritact on board as a tech artist, announcing the news in the grand strategy game's Discord. Sukritact has a storied Steam workshop history of Civilisation VI mods dating back to 2017. These range from fully-animated wonders to rebalances, and their recent 'Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments' has been going down well with Civ 7 players.

Civilization 7 needs some big expansions to feel complete, and I'd start with one that adds the years after 1950

It's no state secret that Civilization 7 didn't get off to the strongest start. Robert Zak gave it a 76% in PC Gamer's review, which is quite low for a Firaxis game, and echoed a lot of my own criticisms. It's sitting at exactly 50 percent positive reviews on Steam as of this writing. The interface is kind of a disaster. It feels stripped-down in some ways. New Civs are usually controversial, but rarely to this extreme. So where do we go from here?..

The gigantic new Civilization 7 update could just be enough to win you back

If you played Civilization 7 during release week and decided it wasn't the sequel that you were expecting, now might be the time to give it a second try. The user interface, progression, and certain behaviors of enemy rulers have all been criticized by the Civ 7 community; the response to Firaxis's 4X follow-up has in fact been so mixed that Civilization 6, despite being eight years old, now regularly has a larger number of players on Steam. But alongside the Crossroads of the World DLC, Firaxis has just shipped the first major Civilization 7 update, and it should take the edge off some of the biggest issues so far.
