91% rated co-op horror game to launch grotesque limited time event

Outlast never really seemed like it would be able to make a smooth transition into becoming a multiplayer game. The first two horror games, sharing DNA with Alien: Isolation and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, are frightening in large part because they make players feel utterly alone in an unfathomably terrifying situation. Still, the move away from solo design represented by The Outlast Trials has gone over very well, creator Red Barrels' latest garnering praise and attracting players through the success of its Dead by Daylight reminiscent premise and, as today's news continues, a steady cadence of updates.

Launching Forward | Roadmap and more of what's coming to The Outlast Trials
Greetings Reagents
This week we launched out of Early Access and into The Outlast Trials' version 1.0! It was a huge milestone for our team over at Red Barrels and we took the time to go over some of the changes that were brought in since 1.0 and answer player questions in our latest Dev Q&A Broadcast on our YouTube channel! We look forward to doing more Dev Streams such as this one, and we may use them to tease some of the new features we are currently working on.

Thank you to all of our Early Access players, you all learned so much during the process and we were able to shape the Trials into what they are today with your invaluable feedback! With over 407k, Reborn and 29 million deaths, 13 million documents were collected, more than 200k teammates saved from bleed-out and the fact that you all spent more time in night vision than hiding, we want to thank you for being a part of this journey!
The Outlast Trials Roadmap
As mentioned in the Dev Broadcast, we wanted to share a Roadmap with some features that our team plans to add to The Outlast Trials. As we continue to monitor the feature balances we've made, the feedback of players, and the stability of the game in general, our team will also be working on bug fixes and improvements that will come along with these upcoming updates.

 • Toxic Shock will be our first Limited-Time event for all 1.0 players to experience followed by another Classified Event, stay tuned for more info and teasers.
 • Season 1 will be a major update that will feature a New Trial, a New Prime Asset, a New Rig, and more!
 • The Items in the "Future" category consists of features that we will be adding later in the year.

We look forward to the future of The Outlast Trials and to having all of you try some of the new experimental programs that will be added to the Trials.

We continue to seek player feedback so if you are so inclined you can do so in our Spontaneous feedback Survey

If you encounter any issues in-game feel free to join our 18+ Official Outlast Discord to contact a support team by submitting a /ticket. You can also use Discord to meet many other Outlast fans who are looking for teams to play with in #find-players. Make sure to read our Server Rules and select the topics that interest in the Channels and Roles section!

9/10 survival horror game trends on Steam after major 1.0 update

The Outlast Trials is drawing in vast numbers of sickos (we say that endearingly) on PC after the release of its 1.0 update; publisher and developer Red Barrels' psychological horror game that takes inspiration from torture porn mainstays like the Saw franchise is trending on Steam Charts.

Rated 9/10, one of 2024's most wanted new horror games is finally here

It's not the enemies (well, it kind of is the enemies), and it's not the environments - at least not all the time. In Outlast, the horror-game-mold-breaking 2013 original, the most frightening part of the experience is the camera. That grainy little viewfinder, especially when you activate the battery-sucking nightvision, makes everything feel, somehow, closer, more tactile, and more real. You're a reporter. Your job is to record. And so you feel obligated to watch and capture every single atrocity and terror contained in Mount Massive Asylum. It's a subtle but breakthrough tweak in the horror game formula. Now, 11 years later, Outlast has fully broken containment. Mixing Dead by Daylight's multiplayer focus with the stealth and tension of Alien Isolation or Amnesia, one of 2024's most hotly anticipated new horrors is finally here in full.
