Cult classic mech game returns with a free demo you can try right now

Although the genre has never died off entirely, there's been something of a resurgence of mech games lately. Over recent years, we've seen the launch of everything from Armored Core 6 and Mecha Break to a slew of Front Mission remakes, providing plenty of options for robot brawling aficionados. A bit further back, Marvelous put out Daemon X Machina as well, which garnered an enthusiastic fan base that's been eagerly awaiting news about its sequel, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion. Now, we've not only seen more of the game, but also been given an opportunity to try it out ahead of launch thanks to a new Steam demo.

Titanic Scion Demo Available Now!

You’ve been asking for it, and we’ve heard you. Announced at gamescom Opening Night Live, we are happy to share that the Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion demo is available to download now! And we’ve got a fast-paced new trailer packed with gigantic enemies, spectacular action, and a tantalizing glimpse into the thought-provoking narrative to get you hyped up while you wait for the demo to download.

This free demo features the first nine chapters of the story, and lets you explore the open world, experiencing the high-speed combat and customizable Arsenal that can be tailored to suit your preferred combat style. The demo includes online co-op with up to three players and supports cross-play, ensuring it’s easy to connect and play with friends on any platform.

Asynchronous play is also featured, allowing you to experience the intense mech action at your own pace, while still benefiting from more passive online connectivity. Additionally, save data can be carried over to the full game release on the same platform when Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion releases on Sept. 5.

If you happen to be at gamescom this week, and can’t get to your platform of choice, a separate, shorter demo is also playable at Marvelous Europe’s booth, A051 in Hall 7.

Meet Titanic Scion's Warring Factions

An underground resistance organization, the Reclaimers are a covert network banded together to fight back against the rule of the Sovereign Axiom. At first glance, the Daemon X Machine Titanic Scion system requirements are quite forgiving, certainly at the lower end, but that soon changes once you cast your eyes over the recommended specs. If the most recent Steam Hardware survey is accurate, more than half of all gamers who registered their hardware won't be able to meet its demands.

Going Hands-On With Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion—Slick Steel


It was quite a happy surprise to see Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion during Nintendo’s April 2025 Direct, because it was honestly a game I didn’t think would get a sequel. Despite eventually finding its way to the PC in 2020, the original Daemon X Machina felt like this big, bold title that was meant to show off the Nintendo Switch’s relative power despite its small size. And while it was a very good game, it always felt more like a Switch showcase than something that would spin off into its own series.





I’ve long been a fan of giant robot games, and as such, I loved the first Daemon X Machina, so I was genuinely excited for more when I saw the initial trailer for the sequel. However, what I didn’t expect was just how radically Marvelous First Studio would shift the feel and style of the game.
