Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion (Nintendo Switch 2) Review


When I initially previewed Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion naught by a month ago, I enjoyed my experience with it on PC, but the thing I was far more interested in was its Nintendo Switch 2 counterpart. While I had no doubts it would be good on practically every console, the way its predecessor was initially pitched as a showcase of the Nintendo Switch had me more interested to see how the sequel would fare on Nintendo’s Switch successor.





In some ways, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is a pretty incredible showcase of what the Switch 2 is capable of—managing to maintain a consistent level of quality for this expanded sequel. However, much like its predecessor, there are enough cracks in the foundation to reveal that, despite being a significantly more powerful system, the Switch 2 still has its limits.

Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion embraces an open world for a better co-op sequel

I was very happy to see Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion giving Marvelous's flashy mech game a second outing. Its hyper-stylized look is satisfying to the eyes, and the more high-mobility action compared to Armored Core 6 makes it a worthwhile alternative to FromSoftware's 2023 hit. Speaking to PCGamesN at Gamescom, producer Kenichiro Tsukuda talks about the decision to move to a more open-world design for the sequel, the challenges faced by the team, and how the legacy of mecha and robots has expanded in recent years.

Cult classic mech game returns with a free demo you can try right now

Although the genre has never died off entirely, there's been something of a resurgence of mech games lately. Over recent years, we've seen the launch of everything from Armored Core 6 and Mecha Break to a slew of Front Mission remakes, providing plenty of options for robot brawling aficionados. A bit further back, Marvelous put out Daemon X Machina as well, which garnered an enthusiastic fan base that's been eagerly awaiting news about its sequel, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion. Now, we've not only seen more of the game, but also been given an opportunity to try it out ahead of launch thanks to a new Steam demo.

Titanic Scion Demo Available Now!

You’ve been asking for it, and we’ve heard you. Announced at gamescom Opening Night Live, we are happy to share that the Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion demo is available to download now! And we’ve got a fast-paced new trailer packed with gigantic enemies, spectacular action, and a tantalizing glimpse into the thought-provoking narrative to get you hyped up while you wait for the demo to download.

This free demo features the first nine chapters of the story, and lets you explore the open world, experiencing the high-speed combat and customizable Arsenal that can be tailored to suit your preferred combat style. The demo includes online co-op with up to three players and supports cross-play, ensuring it’s easy to connect and play with friends on any platform.

Asynchronous play is also featured, allowing you to experience the intense mech action at your own pace, while still benefiting from more passive online connectivity. Additionally, save data can be carried over to the full game release on the same platform when Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion releases on Sept. 5.

If you happen to be at gamescom this week, and can’t get to your platform of choice, a separate, shorter demo is also playable at Marvelous Europe’s booth, A051 in Hall 7.
