The Abyssal whip is ready to crack some Slayer monster skulls!

The Retro Abyssal Whip bundle arrives with today’s update, costing 200 RuneCoins - or 180 for Members. It contains:
• Retro Abyssal Whip
• Remaster Abyssal Whip

Time to grab your whip and get cracking!

URGENT PSA: There have been reports of these aggressive waterfowl appearing on the weekends and attacking local cabbages.

Please be on the lookout, and do report any sightings.

When you’ve been growing a game for over two decades, you’re bound to see a number of different playstyles emerging. There are some seriously niche communities within our big family, and we love to see your dedication and creativity! Today we’re introducing some changes that should help out one group in particular - the skilling pures.

The pure skiller playstyle is all about completing goals without gaining any experience in select skills. These adjustments should help out the dedicated few who are committed to the pure lifestyle, while not impacting the general play flow for the rest of the community.

This niche accessibility update - designed and developed in close collaboration with a number of skill pures - provides some self-moderation tools to recover from inadvertent leveling, as well as ways to opt out of undesired XP, opening up new opportunities for specialist builds. XP blocking and skill resets are intended to bring optional peace of mind to self-limited accounts, while not impacting the majority of players.

Read the changes in full over at the Patch Notes!
Skill Pure Accommodations
• The following options have been added to Nastroth in Lumbridge courtyard:
• XP blocking: "I want to block XP from specific skills." You can choose to prevent ever getting XP in skills of your choice.
• Note that at the request of HP pures, Constitution XP from defeating enemies in combat cannot be blocked.
• Proof: "I want to prove I've never used an XP block/reset."
• This toggles a tooltip on the Combat Level icon when you are inspected by a player, indicating whether XP has been blocked on your account or you have used a minor reset.
• Minor reset: To accommodate pures who have 'ruined' an account by over-levelling a skill, Nastroth can now reset your XP in a skill of your choice to its minimum, provided the chosen skill doesn't exceed level 10 (or level 15 if Constitution).
• Unlike Nastroth's two major resets (specifically intended to reset Defence pures and Constitution & Prayer pures when Evolution of Combat released), this minor reset doesn't reset quests etc. that require the chosen skill.
• Nastroth's resets (major and minor) are now available on a six-month cooldown, instead of once per account.
• The player must still return in 7 days to activate any reset after requesting it, and activation requires a Bank PIN.
• The limit of one major reset per account has been removed. This is to help players who are over-levelled for Nastroth's new minor reset and have already used either of Nastroth's two major resets to recover their accounts and utilise these changes.
• To prevent exploits from major resets being used repeatedly, Nastroth will cease to provide major resets in less than six months - on Monday 18th September 2023.
• While the limit of one major reset per account has been lifted, Nastroth's two major resets were intended for two very different types of pures, so cannot be combined.
• If you intend to make use of one of Nastroth's major resets before they are removed... be sure to activate a major reset before activating a minor reset. Since resets share a six-month cooldown and major resets will be removed in less than six months, if Nastroth is waiting six months after a minor reset, you won't be able to use a major reset before they are removed. Nastroth requires you to wait 7 days after requesting a reset to come back and activate it. So if you have requested a minor reset and prefer to use a major reset, there's time to change your mind if you haven't yet returned in a week to activate the minor reset.
• Also note that Nastroth's major resets were intended to specifically reset two types of pures at the dawn of the Evolution of Combat and have not been maintained, so until their removal, you use major resets at your own risk.
• Keepsake Box checks now occur before Nastroth skill reset warnings, so that if a skill reset fails due to having keepsaked items, the reset does not prematurely go on 7 day cooldown.
• Removed the 59 Magic requirement from the Family Crest quest, since Chronozon's blast spell mechanic can be bypassed with a Deathtouched Dart.
Graphical
• Fixed an issue where lights in the Crystal Light puzzle in Daemonheim were not displayed correctly.
• Fixed an issue with environment visibility at the Soul Altar.
• Adjusted lighting across the TzHaar city.
• Overhauled the lighting and updated the terrain textures in the Underground Pass Dungeon.
Quest
• Fixed a small typo in the Extinction quest.
• Fixed an issue where Adrasteia sometimes wouldn’t appear in the Falador Castle Library after speaking to Saradomin during the Twilight of the Gods quest.
• The tower door on the roof of the Town Hall is now locked in the Murder on the Border quest's instance.
• The coffer unearthed during the Murder on the Border quest is now similarly sized in its active and inactive states.
• Fixed some typos in the Murder on the Border quest.
• Corrected the typo ‘Potiion’ to be ‘Potion’ in a part of the Murder on the Border quest dialogue.
• Corrected the typo ‘Rood’ to be ‘Roof’ in a part of the Murder on the Border quest dialogue.
• The required items to construct buildings during the New Foundations and Murder on the Border quests are now listed in their quest overviews.
General
• Fixed an issue where the building status of the Chapel in Fort Forinthry claimed that the building is ‘yet to be constructed’, even if the Chapel is fully completed and customisable.
• The inventory icons for Achievement Capes have been adjusted to be more easily distinguishable from one another.
• Players now are no longer able to mention Returner Challenge buffs as items using quick chat.
• Fixed an issue where Combat XP Lamps claimed from Nikkel didn't provide any XP.
• Fixed missing UI border for a Clue Scroll (hard) treasure map at Fort Forinthry.
• Fixed an issue where players couldn't bless extra fine sand on certain tiles in Ardougne Monastery.
• The Twitch link in the in-game calendar now links to the correct page.
• The tooltips of the following elements have been adjusted:
• Super Zamorak brew
• Spiritual Prayer potion
• Summoning potion
• Recipe Shop Potions
• The Oddment Store and Terms & Conditions buttons are interactable again when the Out of Keys screen is displayed.
• Fixed an issue where different types of Protean Packs were deselected after clicking the ‘More’ option.
• Corrected a typo in the Milky Teeth achievement.
• Updated the description when destroying the Mask of the White Wyrm to the correct reclaim price. Previously the description claimed that the price was 50,000 GP when the correct price was actually 35,000 GP.
• Adjusted the messages shown in duels to be more clear.
• Fixed an issue with the Forinthry Royal Robes missing the neck in the female variant.
• The ‘Witch's Potion Override’ (herblore animation override) can now be deactivated.

Alongside removing Threat and reworking gameplay elements that worked in tandem with it (we’re looking at you, Obsidian Palmstone) the Ninjas are also taking out Cursed Wisps and making changes to the mob density in some areas. This should breathe new life into the Wildy and open up many new paths to progress!

Read a full list of the changes in the Patch Notes section below.
Ninja Strike Wilderness Refresh
The Threat system has been removed from the Wilderness

• Dev Note: The Wilderness was always intended as a high-risk, high-reward area. When we removed PVP, we wanted to keep that element of danger to justify the more rewarding activities found there. It was an experiment in whether PVM could achieve the same feeling of unpredictable risk, and the answer, at least for this version, has turned out to be no. It's possible a different implementation could have different results, but we've seen very little interest from players in actually wanting that kind of gameplay, with most either treating it as a nuisance, or just an opportunity for even faster, more aggressive spawns to kill.

With issues still outstanding, we've made the decision to remove the threat system entirely rather than devote more dev time to fixing it up or starting from scratch with a different system. We think we can make better use of the same time on upcoming content or features that are more important to you. We want to seriously consider removing content which is doing more harm than good from the game, but we always have to be conscious that older content does have dedicated fans. The threat system is new enough that it hasn't had time to build up much love, so we don't expect the removal to be very controversial.
• The Cursed Wisp system has been removed
• Cursed energy will be automatically converted on June 5th and is untradeable.

• Dev Note: As mentioned above, we've chosen to remove the threat system from the Wilderness rather than continue trying to force the zone to be dangerous.

A lot of content in the Wilderness is overly rewarding because of the danger that's supposed to be there. Most of this content is fairly easy to fix, but Cursed Wisps are an important exception for two reasons. The first is that they *only* exist as an intentionally overpowered option to incentivise PVP. Without PVP, they don't otherwise enrich the game's mechanics or enable more diverse training. The second is that they remain a luring tool, used to trick other players into enabling PVP. For these two reasons, we've decided to remove Cursed Wisps entirely.
• Added a 15 minute world lock to receiving a reward bag from Wilderness Flash Events.
• Generic bags now give out reduced Necronium salvage.
• Special bags have had a major overhaul when it comes to rewards. This includes less chance of Dragonrider boots/gloves, reduced salvage and vastly increased chance of getting Dark Cores.
• Completing a Wilderness event with a full Inventory and Bank will now store the rewards in a temporary Inventory with the Wilderness event host NPCs. These rewards are lost if not claimed before logging out, and can't be recovered.
• Updated the map area names within the Wilderness Dungeon.
• Erskine will no longer offer Slayer Contracts for the Fire Giants.
• Campfires are now present in the Wyvern area south of the Frozen Waste Plateau.
• Chronozon now has a proper defeat animation when killed inside the Dominion Tower.
• Ripper Demons will now correctly use their special attack.
• Various monsters have changed location in the Wilderness.
• You can now only interact with warbands and related content if you have PvP toggled on.
• Items related to the Threat system have lost their effect, become untradeable and can now be high alched.
• Mandrith's completion reward box has been reduced in value.
• The Task weightings of Mandrith have been changed to favour Berserk/Ash demons.
• Brawling Gloves no longer function based on the Wilderness level you are in, and now just boost the XP rate by the base amount.
• Brawling Gloves are no longer obtainable outside of the Wilderness.
• Charming Moths' Hunter and Agility XP have been reduced but the Demonic Skull bonus to Charming Moths have been increased from 20% to 40%.
• The safes found in the Rogue Castle have had the cooldown period increased from 5 minutes to 10 minutes.
• Bloodwood Trees in the Wilderness now offer no additional benefit compared to Bloodwood Trees outside the Wilderness.
• All Bloodwood trees are now buffed by upgrading the infernal puzzle box.
• The Demonic Skull now works from the Inventory.
• Kal'gerions in the Wilderness are now aggressive.
General
• Before the fight with Gadderanks during In the Aid of Myreque, players with the NPC attack option set to 'hidden' will receive a reminder to change it.
• Players opening their Bank while it contains a lot of farm animals will no longer crash their client. Instead, players in this state will have additional tooltip information disabled in their Bank until they reduce the number of stored animals.
• Added a warning box explaining why you can't equip a particular title on mobile.
• Footprints during Tourist Trap are now clearly visible.
• Fixed an issue causing Helwyr's drops to disappear under the grassy area.
• Improved the lighting in the Rogue's Castle safecracking room.
• Players can now toggle whether targeted movement abilities target scenery - this can be done in the Targeting section under the Combat & Action Bar category of the settings. This currently applies to Bladed Dive and Dive.
• Players will receive Super Restores once more whenever K'ril Tsutsaroth drops Zamorak brews.
• An issue arose where players could become invisible when using Dive with certain rest animations. As a result, players can no longer use Dive or Bladed Dive when resting.
• Players will now be collecting multiple resources during the Effigy Incubator activity, both while collecting items by clicking on them or by using the looting interface.
• Lighting in the Ripper Demon cave was adjusted so players can notice hostile NPCs without issues.
• Improved lighting within the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon.
• Improved the colours of the Pirates' Hideout building when textures are turned off.
• Improved the colours of the Rogue Castle building when textures are turned off.
• The wiki search command now works with both upper and lower-case letters.
• Fixed an issue where the Wilderness Chaos Altar in the southern part of the Wilderness was missing its offer bones/ashes option.
• Clarified the wording of Aftermath's start point and quest journal objectives to make it clearer you need to speak to Adrasteia in the White Knights' Castle library. This is to accommodate players who completed Succession prior to completing Aftermath.
• Fixed an issue where one of the 'Driven, Underground' achievement requirements was not visible on mobile devices.
• Players can no longer unlock pet variants in the Yak Coin Shop for pets they don't own yet.
• Azzanadra's Quest is now one of the City of Senntisten quest requirements.
• Bill can now tell players which tier each of the Fort Forinthry buildings is currently at.

- The RuneScape Team

RuneScape player finally pulls off ridiculous ironman challenge he set himself 8 years ago: 'Life? No.'

common habit among longtime MMO players is to set their own challenges. Outside of something truly emergent like EVE, even the best MMOs tend to become repetitive as the most dedicated players beat ultra-hard raids again and again to farm loot. So it was that an Old School Runescape (OSRS) player decided this was not his idea of a game of toy soldiers (thanks, GR+), and set himself a frankly bizarre challenge...

Yak Track & Ninja Strike - This Week In RuneScape

Ninjas, Yaks and Jam. What a combo! They’re also the subjects of this week’s update. Let’s break ‘em down, one by one…

Yak Track is back, and this time we step on to the foreboding forefront that is the Forinthry Frontier. Try saying that five times fast.

If you’ve been playing New Foundations over the past fortnight, you’ll hopefully by now established Fort Forinthry and attained noble status. Next, you’ll want to look the part. It’s time to acquire some posh pets and regal threads!

Complete Yak Track tasks and get your hands on fancy new robes, armour, and even the new Golden Detonate ability override - plus some pampered pooches and classy cats! Say hello Chipper, Linnet, Piper and Muick (not to mention their eight adorable variants).

Yak Track begins today (Monday February 27th) and continues until May 15th, giving you over two months to complete it. Why so generous? Well, it’s because this time we’re giving you a whopping 70 tasks to tackle! This longer event window should give you enough of a chance to get them all done, but of course, the usual Skill & Kill and Task Skip options are available too.

We’ll also be welcoming the return of the Yak Coin Shop, where you can redeem Yak Coins for all sorts of useful and luxurious items, including XP boosts, previous Yak Track cosmetics (Journey to Iaia rewards now included!), and alternate versions of some of the new cosmetics.

You get one Yak Coin for every 5 tasks during the core track up to task 50, then every 2 tasks up to track 70, plus another for every completion of the repeatable track. Don't hold onto them too long though, because your coins will vanish one week after the track finishes.

Here is smorgasbord of some of the Rewards appearing in the Track and Yak Store!

The Ninjas are back with some precision-focused Quality of Life updates! Improvements include enhanced lighting in the Raksha arena, a more accessible Curator to help your Elder God Wars quests and an end to Aura timers decreasing while you’re offline!

Check out the full list in our Patch Notes section further down.

Here's a little look at the Raksha arena before...

...And after. Ding!

Our talented team of developers and artists have been working hard on some previously mentioned Game Jam ideas, and several of those will make their debut today! These include Mod Stu's Icthlarin's Little Helper improvements and Mod Desert's Croesus tweaks. We’re also introducing refinements to the Zuk encounter, Charos Clue Carrier and Olaf's Quest!

Full details are in the Patch Notes section below.

• Chincendiary is no more: Incendiary, Meteor Strike, and Tsunami have been reworked to no longer double dip into Area of Effect damage via stalling abilities/swapping weapons.
• Changed all occurrences of ‘toolbelt’ in text to ‘tool belt’ for consistency.
• The timer for an active Aura will no longer decrease while logged out. This does not include the Greenfinger Auras, though.
• The player is able to rot fungus while performing various actions during the fight with Croesus.
• Improved the lighting in the Orthen Oubliette where Raksha is imprisoned.
• Necklace of Salamancy is now easier to obtain while skilling.
• Necklace of Salamancy can now be put into your Keepsake Box as an override.
Game Jam

October
• Improvements to Icthlarin's Little Helper:
• The quest-giver no longer requires a Tinderbox and full Waterskin.
• Trap doors in Klenter's pyramid are now outlined and remain open for a couple minutes when triggered.
• Reduced inconvenient random mechanics (eg. probability of falling down a pit, randomisation of the tile puzzle).
• The tool belt can now sap trees (including Acadia trees) and provide salt for the embalmer.
• Clearer guidance and less backtracking.
• Made some interactions (eg using the unholy symbol on a sarcophagus) more mobile-friendly.
• The Icthlarin cutscene now uses his latest character model.
• Added a new Crafting category to Gameplay Settings, under ‘Skills & Experience’.
• Also added a toggle for receiving Noted Clay from the Modified Artisan's Bandana. When first-time players receive items from the Bandana they have the option to choose whether they'd like Noted or Unnoted Clay.
• Rebalanced Croesus drop tables and Hunter experience.
Dev Note : After monitoring the gameplay flow of the encounter it became obvious that it was tuned a little too high; solo trash runs were proving to be the best method of skilling Hunter, and drop rates were injecting more materials and gold than intended. We have now reduced these rates to better maintain the intended value of the boss, while not overshadowing other methods of experience gain. We will be monitoring these changes further and will continue to tune the encounter where applicable.

• Hunter XP in the encounter has also been reduced:
• From the central node by 33%
• From the enriched nodes on the Dagannoth by 66%.
• From non-enriched nodes on the Dagannoth by 66%.
• From Darkened Fungus on the Dagannoth by 66%.
• From additional nodes around the Dagannoth by 66%.
• Common drop table changes:
• Removed Uncut Onyx, replaced with Onyx Dust drop.
• Changed medium Orikalkum Salvage drop from x3-5 to x2-5.
• Reduced Crystal Key volume from x8-12 to x8.
• Reduced Red Spider Eggs drop from x45-55 to x20-30.
• Reduced Limpwurt Root drop from x35-45 to x17-27.
• Reduced Grape Vine Seed drop from x10-14 to x6-10.
• Reduced Cockatrice Egg drop from x40-50 to x5-10.
• Reduced Mort Myre Mushroom drop from x45-55 to x20-30.
• Reduced Uncut Diamonds from x15-25 to x5-15.
• Reduced Uncut Rubies from x35-45 to x17-27.
• Reduced Uncut Emeralds from x35-45 to x17-27.
Altered contribution thresholds:

• ^To clarify roll 11 and 12 will either give a unique drop or nothing. This does not increase the chance of getting the unique but does reduce the volume of common drops. The 60 contribution threshold for a rare remains unchanged.
• The following auto-collectors no longer place drops into the player's inventory during the Croesus encounter:
• Charming Imp
• Seedicide
• Legendary Pet with Scavenge ability
• Note: Charming Imp and Seedicide will still be able to convert drops to XP as before.
• Skilling nodes within the Croesus boss encounter can now be Bladed… er… Dived (Bladed dove? Bladed doovde?) onto, and doing so will start the skilling action.
• Adjusted the examine text for the Ophalmi's statue to now be in line with the other 'Slayer of x' statues present in the Croesus arena.
• Added sorting items function on the Oddments Store into ‘unowned’ and ‘owned.’
December
• The Quest List's filter checkboxes are now listed under a filter button, and labeled with consistently positive language. The confusing ‘recommended’ checkbox has been removed. Quests can now be sorted and filtered from the Quest List’s child list in a similar manner to the Adventures->Quests parent interface. Check out this thread for some extra insights from Mod Stu!
• Charos Clue Carrier takes items from Bank and Inventory if used from the Inventory inside the Bank interface.
• Ring of Kinship is now kept on death.
• Added a right-click option to ‘make all runes’ within the Wicked Hood interface.
• Olaf’s quest has been improved:
• You no longer need a spade in your inventory to enter the cavern, as there is a patch of snow you can dig.
• If you fail the agility obstacle you are placed within the cavern.
• The agility obstacle no longer forcibly toggles your run.
• You can no longer fail the agility obstacle randomly (if you run you will always fail; if you walk you will always succeed).
• The large block of ice at the entrance has been replaced by small rocks for players who did not take part in the Easter 2011 event.
• Fixed an issue where you were forced into melee range when attacking TzKal-Zuk from the west (caused by the vent).
• Fixed an issue where Jad's attack animations could not be seen if recently stunned.
• Fixed an issue where your movement would appear stalled when hit by TzKal-Zuk's magic attack during the showdown.
• Fixed an issue where the Resonance ability buff icon wasn't cleared when hit by a geyser.
• Fixed an issue where TzKal-Zuk would not correctly phase when at his life points threshold during the showdown.
• Removed an animation stall related to the Penguin Hide and Seek activity.
