Master Cape Customisation & December Community Hitlist - This Week In RuneScape

This update is stuffed with changes in our December Community Hitlist strike, Mod Ramen’s Cape Customisation and some new deals on currency packs!

The end of the year is fast approaching, but we've got just enough time to squeeze in a hitlist strike and tackle some more of your most-requested QoL changes.

This time around the team have been working on turning Revenant Enhancers into a currency to free up those precious Bank slots, updates to several audio requests players have been asking for, adding in the ability to drop items from your Backpack by shift-clicking them, adding a Load Last Preset option to bank chests, bank booths and bankers, refreshing the rare and super rare loot tables, and changing how Excalibur functions when clicked.

Phew! But that's not all the team's been up to. Check out the patch notes below for the full list of changes!

With all that out of the way, the Community Hitlist will be taking a break until January, when we'll be back to address more player pet peeves!

As if the Christmas Village wasn't colourful enough, Mod Ramen has been busy in the workshop getting his GameJam project up and running! As of today's update, you'll be able to customise your Master Capes with all the colours (and shades) of the rainbow! As if that weren't enough, you can save your prettiest particles as presets. We can't wait to see what festive patterns you come up with!

Now there's even more reasons to polish off those last few achievements and earn your Cape! You can do it!

Planning to treat yourself in RuneScape this Christmas?

While the Holly Knight cosmetics are part of our bumper Christmas bundle offers above, we know this offer won't be for everyone who would be interested in rocking the festive warrior look. If you're one of those players, we'll be making sure you can pick up the Holly Knight Armour & Sword from the Premier Token Store next Christmas!*

*Updating the Premier Token Store in general is still very much on our radar and something we're investigating for next year.
Community Hitlist
• Excalibur, Enhanced Excalibur and Augmented Enhanced Excalibur now have a consistent default action (Activate) when equipped and in the Backpack. This allows Excalibur's healing special to be activated with ease.
• Players can now use the 'Configure' option to choose whether to instead use Wield/Remove as the default action.
• After dragging Excalibur from the Backpack to the Action Bar, you can choose which default option the Action Bar uses.
• The 'Configure' option also lets you choose what you'd like to shout when Excalibur is activated. 'Silent' is the default option.
• You can now hold the Shift key and click items in the Backpack to drop them (if they support dropping, of course).
• Doubled the output of Dinarrow components (Sharp Shell Shards, Tempered Fungal Shafts, 'Propellant') from the 3 'Accidental' Fletching and Firemaking activities south of the Anachronia dinosaur farm, and entirely reworked the eggsperimentation eggtivity to support a greater range of low- to high- intensity gameplay.
• Wherever possible, Bank chests, booths and bankers now have a Load Last Preset option. This reloads your most recent Bank preset without needing to open, populate and close your Bank interface.
• The 'Dare to Die' song that plays at War's Retreat now fades in more gently and plays at a lower volume, so that its drum track is gentler on the ears when passing through the PvM hub.
• A looping ambient sound of crystal chimes has been removed from the Tower of Voices and Max Guild in Prifddinas, to better suit extensive bankstanding.
• A repetitive moan in the Zombie Walk idle animation, audible to all nearby players, has been removed.
• A repetitive meow in the idle animation of some cats and kittens, audible to all nearby players, has been removed.
• By player request, we've reverted the sound played during clue scans to its pre-June version.
• The individual charges of Revenant Drop Enhancers can now be stacked in your Currency Pouch, freeing up Bank space.
• When loading a Bank preset including items that can be filled with essence, their current contents are now emptied into the Bank before refilling them, in case they contain a different type.
• Rebalanced and updated the rare and super-rare loot tables to remove some of the less valuable items (Runite Stone Spirits, Molten Glass and Raw Lobsters) and increase variance of items dropping in multiples.
• Players standing on charging pads during the Zamorak boss battle when the Infernus witch dies no longer need to step off and on again to charge the pad.
• Clarified the Start Point description for the TokTz-Ket-Dill quest.
• Multiple items can now be added to the Keepsake Box:
• Enhanced Boots
• Protea Flower
• Superior Zuriel’s Staff
• Superior Dragon Weapons
• Superior Rock-Shell Armour
• Superior Spined Armour
• Superior Skeletal Armour
• Monkey Trinkets
• Cake Hat
• Mud Mask
• Fairy Wand
• Pendant of Lucien
• Mining Helmet
• Gofannon Amulet
• Cattleprod
• Mouse Toy
• Elite Death Lotus Dart
• Legatus Pendant
• Bug Lantern
• Imcando Hatchet
• The list of overhead emotes can now be filtered to only show the emotes you've unlocked.
GameJam
• Misty, in the Deep Sea Fishing hub, now has two shiny new chat options:
• She will tell you how long it has been since the current encounter started. No more guessing how fresh the travelling merchant is!
• If no event is currently present, she will instead tell you how long it has been since there was an encounter.
• She will pass on the rumours of what stock the travelling merchant has that day.
• When purchasing the items in slots 2, 3 and 4 of the travelling merchant, it would erroneously show "Locked" instead of "Sold Out" to show the items were out of stock. This has now been corrected.
• When the game servers reboot as part of the weekly update, there was a minimum of 45 minutes before the first encounter in deep sea fishing (such as the travelling merchant) could appear. This is no longer the case and such encounters can now potentially (depending on RNG) appear immediately after a game server reboot.
Zemouregal & Vorkath
• Lord of Bones now reduces armour at 0.2% per stack to maximum of 40%
• Vorkath's 'Ice Circle' attack no longer damages dreadnips or Seren spell prisms.
• Vorkath breath attack has been updated to provide better visual feedback
• Hard mode achievements have been added for the Zemouregal & Vorkath battle.
• Insane Final Boss achievement now correctly shows and track hard mode as well as pet requirement
• Some items obtained from Battle of Forinthry reward chests are now noted.
• Zemouregal summons spawn location changed to avoid spawning under Vorkath
• Players now only take damage if they stop in a poison pool, however, if a poison pool spawns on them, they can mitigate damage by running to an empty square, when the pool appears.
• If crossing a single pool they will only take damage once a player stops in it.
• Added the Vorkath Necromancy weapon overrides to the Zemouregal and Vorkath encounter's drop table.
Christmas Village
• Ironmen can now purchase double wrapping paper from the marketplace.
• Updated the bank chest in the Christmas Village to better fit the environment.
• Updated trees in the Christmas Village
• Fixed texture on snowpile to craft snowballs
• Smokey the coal now moves more slowly and is easier to interact with.
• Some missing windows have been rebuilt within Falador & Lumbridge
• Removed some unnecessary options on the advent calendar icon on mobile.
• Fixed several graphical issues with Christmas lights in Falador & Lumbridge.
• Vorkath will now appropriately award wrapping paper
• Some Christmas lights in Fort Forinthry will no longer float when remove roof is enabled
• The stolen decorations from the southern Varrock have been returned by the imps!
• Fixed some duplicate text within the combine text on the Christmas scarves and hats.
• The Varrock Eastern Gate can now be passed through correctly.
• Players will now have their transmog removed when speaking to various NPCs around the Christmas Village.
• Fixed the Christmas Shop purchases for F2p (TBD)
• The Ice fishing water hole has been slightly adjusted so it no longer has a darker square shadow within it.
• Clicking on a button to open a different interface on the Treasure Hunter progress bar will now reopen Treasure Hunter when closing the interface.
• Some various typos & inconsistencies have been fixed across the Christmas Event.
• A Christmas tree in the Grand Exchange now has a fence around the trunk.
• The advent calendar now mentions the prize received when opening a window.
• Some lamposts in Varrock have had their string lights appropriately attached.
• Mince pies can now be noted and traded.
• The text on the 'Advent' and 'Event' buttons within Treasure Hunter has been made brighter.
• Snowballs made within the Christmas Village should now give you up-to-date reclaim information upon attempting to destroy them.
• Fort Forinthry's chapel decorations have been returned by the Snow Imps! To see the changes, re-enable the Christmas decorations via Zoe.
General
• The 'But It Won't Warp You Anywhere' achievement can now be completed again.
• Fixed an issue that made certain items equip while using 'Fill' or 'Empty' options within the bank interface.
• The "Samurai outfit" override should now appear in correct categories.
• The "King and Queen of Hearts Pack" and "King and Queen of Spades Pack" weapon overrides should now appear in correct categories.

• Items in Ore Boxes will now be saved on death unless it is a PvP death
• The ladder inside the Blue Moon Inn functions once again.
• The in-game clock now should refresh as expected.
Engine
• Fixed an issue where Necromancy conjures were failing to find the right route during combat, causing them to get stuck.
• Fixed an issue where setting a high framerate limit would result in dramatically lower performance on some machines running recent versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
• Fixed an issue where forcing anisotropic filtering via the Nvidia Control Panel would result in the game's interface rendering incorrectly.
• Fixed flickering artefacts of point light shadows on some less common hardware.
• Fixed interactions between interface scaling and field of view.
• Fixed an issue where the game failed to launch via Steam for some users with Intel GPUs.
• Fixed an issue where the game could crash when minimising the game window on AMD GPUs.
• Fixed various Android crashes.
• Improved quality of game render scaling.
• Improved quality of interface scaling on desktop.
• Improved quality of FXAA on mobile, and on desktop when game render scale is not 100%.
• Improved performance and game rendering quality when interface scale is set to less than 100%.
• Improved performance and quality when 'Game View' is resized using Edit Layout.
• Reset game render scale setting to account for Windows/macOS DPI scaling, due to performance issues.
• Players wanting native 4k can manually change the setting back to 100.
• Players using 4k resolutions may observe UI and game rendering being upscaled to 4K at high quality, costing some FPS depending on your system display scaling settings.

Vorkath, Battle for Forinthry - This Week In RuneScape

New quest, new boss, new shard hunt - can you hold the fort against Zemouregal and his ice-breathing ‘friend’?

Upon the freezing shores of Ungael, Zemouregal has awoken the ancient dragon Vorkath - now he intends to use this new-found power to wipe your Fort clean off the map. This would allow the full might of his undead armies to crash into the realms of Misthalin and sow chaos! It is up to you to stop him - with the help of denizens of Fort Forinthry…

Fight your way through a siege in the new quest Battle of Forinthry, before an epic showdown with Zemouregal and the mighty Vorkath! Completing this quest unlocks a repeat boss battle and amazing new rewards, including brand new materials for crafting the epic Dracolich Ranged Power Armour set, the new Necromancy incantation 'Invoke Lord of Bones' and of course the cutest of dragons - your new pal Vorki!

Check out our recent blog for a closer look into the fight itself - and those rewards.

Want to see what you’re getting into first? Check out our Livestream section below to find a list of streamers who will be challenging the dastardly duo on launch day!

With the release of Vorkath and the Battle of Forinthry comes the launch of an additional event, The Vorkath Hunt! Like the Golden Party Hat and Cape Hunt Events, you'll set out to collect 8 shards by completing various tasks. Doing so will earn you the Vorkath Death Guard and Lantern overrides and some sweet gameplay buffs!
• Infinite Porters: Provides a guaranteed 'porter' effect (which transports valid items to the Bank when gathered) while the buff is active.
• Passive Regeneration Buff: Your life points, prayer points and summoning points regenerate by 10% every 6 seconds while you're outside of combat.

Buffs can be enabled or disabled by Mr Mordaut (or Mordaut Jr) at Fort Forinthry any time after you’ve completed the hunt. The buffs are available to use for 14 days once you complete the Hunt - disabling the buff will not stop the 14-day timer that begins once you earn the buffs.

Despite the name, you don't need to fight Vorkath to complete the hunt - but it definitely helps! Here are the 12 tasks you can complete for shards:

• Kill Vorkath & Zemouregal (infinitely repeatable until all shards have been collected).
• Can be completed during the Battle of Forinthry quest as well as in Story, Normal and Hard mode.
• First shard is given after one kill , subsequent shards require 30 kills.
• Complete the Dead and Buried quest (given on login if complete before event starts).
• Have an active Premier Membership and log in (given on login if active as the event starts).
• Train Gathering skills.
• Train Artisan skills.
• Train Combat skills.
• Train Support skills.
• Players will be guaranteed these shards after three hours of training in each particular skill, but have a high chance to obtain them beforehand.
• Complete steps of the treasure trails.
• Players will be guaranteed this shard after either 90 Easy, 45 Medium, 30 Hard, 23 Elite or 18 Master steps - or a combination of the above, so feel free to do any clues!
• Earning marks of war by defeating repeatable bosses.
• Players will be guaranteed this shard at 2,500 Marks but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.
• Buy for 15m coins or 5k Protean items.
• Complete Wilderness Flash Events.
• Players will be guaranteed this shard at 15 completed events but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.
• Earning RuneScore.
• Players will be guaranteed this shard at 200 Runescore but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.
• If a player has over 31,000 Runescore already they will earn this shard on earning any Runescore.

Combat Beta Launch & Community Hitlist Strike - This Week In RuneScape

Try out the new combat beta, feel the benefits of updates from the community hitlist and check out the upcoming cookbook!

Once again we’re returning to the Community hitlist and checking off some of your most requested changes!

This time around, we’ve enabled combining Brawling Gloves of the same type, pumped up the power of the 'Feeling Pumped’ Mutator and rebalanced the cost of Slayer masks in Shattered Worlds.

We've also had the team sleuthing out the mechanics of Golden Bamboo: the introduction of the Grove updated the backend systems of Woodcutting, which meant players might encounter discrepancies, depending on the boosts and setup used. We’re pleased to say we’ve now been able to restore the flow of bamboo, so grab your axes!

We've also made improvements to Clue-solving flows, among other changes - check out the Patch Notes below for a full list.

This is the first strike of the month, but hopefully not the last. We’re aiming to bring you another strike later in November, so stay tuned!

Whether we’re battling cows in Lumbridge, the undead hordes outside Fort Forinthry, or the next big boss on the scene, combat is a core pillar of RuneScape for many of us. But with the launch of Necromancy, older combat styles like Melee, Magic and Range have started to show their age.

So, we've been considering new ways to enhance the old combat styles you know and love.

From today’s update you’ll be able to access our new Combat Beta! For the next several weeks you'll have the chance to get hands-on with some potential changes to various combat styles - and let us know what you think. We outlined the core changes in a recent blog:

Check out some of the proposed changes:
• Enable 'Damage Potential' for all combat styles for the player:
• This is the removal of hit chance and instead, a damage scaler based on % chance to hit (e.g. 50% = do 50% of your damage instead of having a 50% chance to miss).
• Increase the 'Damage cap' for all combat styles (from 10,000/12,000 to 30,000).
• Implement a simplified Critical Strike system for all combat styles:
• Each style will have a % chance to critically strike. When you do land a critical strike, your damage is increased by your critical strike damage % - which increases with your level.
• Critical Strike chance: 10% by default for all styles, although this could change based on Beta feedback.
• Critical Strike damage: Same formula as Necromancy for all styles, but again, this could change based on Beta feedback (e.g. Melee could have 100% Critical Strike damage).
• Note: Melee uses the 'Strength' stat for this.

As the Beta proceeds, we’ll look to include other changes to combat styles, and refine the identity of each style. Together we can work towards modernizing the feel and flow of combat!

Ready to give the Beta a try? Check out the main site for further instructions

Once you’ve given the changes a try, share your feedback with our team through the following channels:
• The #Combat-Beta channel in the Official Discord.
• This initial Beta Thread (more subsequent threads may be created as the Beta progresses).
• Plus: as the Beta progresses we will look to include in-game polls on Beta worlds.

Please note that not everything that is showcased in the Beta will automatically make its way into the live game. We will endeavour to work with players to refine the changes shown and bring them into the live game when they’re ready!

Combat Refinement & Off-Duty Outfits! - This Week In RuneScape

Necromancy combat refinement continues, plus a novel pre-order and a stylish new outfit override - you really can choose books and looks!

Since its release, Necromancy has proved to be an extremely adaptable and versatile skill. We've really enjoyed seeing how you use it in different combat encounters, and watching you unlock its full potential! Now, though, there are some concerns that it's a bit too ahead of the other skills for the overall balance of the game.

Today, we're starting to make some refinements that will reduce the gap between the strengths of Necromancy and those of other combat styles. Over the coming weeks, we aim to bring the other styles up to modern standards of feel and pace. From October 30th, you'll be able to participate in a new Combat Beta so you can try out the new approach and help us refine it with our feedback.

Check out our recent blog on the topic for more information, and see the Patch Notes section for a list of today's changes!

Tired after a long day of defending Gielinor from all manner of threats? Get out of those adventuring outfits and into something a little more cosy! These Off-Duty Attire pieces are the perfect way to show your after hours style.

The visual overrides can be bought as a bundle from the Spotlight tab for 200 RuneCoins for F2P or 180 Runecoins for members. Purchasing will unlock them in the Wardrobe tab of the Customisation interface.

The list of items includes:
• Off-Duty Gambeson
• Off-Duty Coat
• Off-Duty Coat Variant (studded)
• Off-Duty Jacket
• Off-Duty Shirt
• Off-Duty Leggings
• Off-Duty Trousers
• Off-Duty Boots

All items except the boots have recolourable parts.

RuneScape: The Gift of Guthix, the first of three planned novels from Titan Books, will be published May 2024 - and it's now available to pre-order!

Asgarnia’s fate hangs in the balance. Disparate tribes unite under the banner of Lord Raddalin, and his enemies look on in fear and hatred. Raddalin’s advisors – an uneasy alliance of Black and White knights – whisper of a discovery in the North that will give them the power to change everything.

Caught in the midst of history, a lowly scribe and the son of a Jarl hold the fate of Raddalin’s new kingdom in their hands.

From the glorious inauguration of King Raddalin’s reign to the disgraceful expulsion of the Zamorakians from Asgarnia, The Gift of Guthix tells an epic tale of the origin of magic, the plight of civil war, and the crushing defeat of the Fremennik Great Invasion. Amongst plots and betrayals, a penitent turncoat waits for her moment to leap into the unknown...

The novel will be penned by Erin M. Evans, the author of seven Forgotten Realms novels for Wizards of the Coast, including the 2011 Scribe Award winner Brimstone Angels.

Pre order now from your favourite local bookstore or online retailers. Also available directly from Titan Books
Combat
• 'Conjure Skeleton Warrior' Ability:
• Damage range has been reduced to 22%-28% (was 27%-33%).
• Additional damage has been changed to a damage increase:
• Previously, each rage stack would offer 1% ability damage, The average damage would be 55% ability damage per hit at max stacks (30% base + 25% from stacks).
• Now each rage stack increases the damage by 3%. This is now 43.75% at max stacks (25% base + 75% damage increase from stacks).
• 'Conjure Putrid Zombie' Ability:
• Adrenaline cost removed.
• Base Duration reduced to 42s (-3 seconds).
• Move speed increased from walking to running.
• The damage range of the passive poison effect has been reduced from 27-33% to 8-12%.
• Passive proc interval rate increased from 1.8s to 3s.
• We have reduced the damage and tick rate of poison as currently it was offering too much passive damage for minimal investment and we want poison builds to have their moments but still require equipment investments to see their full effects.
• Bug fix: Passive damage will no longer attempt to apply poison while wearing Cinderbane Gloves.
• 'Command Putrid Zombie':
• Ability can now be cast without a target.
• 'Conjure Vengeful Ghost' Ability:
• Adrenaline cost removed.
• Heal value reduced to 125% (was 175%).
• Healing now happens on-hit, as opposed to on-attack, which means that the healing value will scale up based on damage modifiers (e.g. if the target is inflicted with debuffs such as Haunted or Vulnerability).
• 'Command Vengeful Ghost' Ability:
• Adrenaline Cost Removed.
• Command now has a fixed duration of 30s and will require recasting to keep up.
• Changed the effect from 100% of base damage up to a cap of 35% ability damage -> 10% of base damage up to a cap of 20% ability damage as bonus damage.
• The intention with this change is to still enable the benefit of amplifying high-damaging abilities while reducing how much extra damage was being generated from lots of instances of low-damage hits.
• 'Life Transfer' Incantation:
• Increase duration from 20.4s to 21s.
• Changed from maximum life points to base life points. E.g if you have 15000 Life Points with 99 Constitution, you will only lose 4950 (which is 9900/2) instead of losing 7500 which is what you would lose in the current version.
• 'Invoke Death' Incantation:
• Increased duration to 12 seconds (was 6 seconds).
• It's still one application per cast, but there was an overreliance at the start of fights on being tick perfect with 'Invoke Death' which made it feel clunky to interact with.
• Resolved some issues related to Death Mark:
• Fixed an issue that caused it to trigger multiple times.
• Fixed an issue where the damage from the mark was delayed.
• Fixed an issue that allowed Death Mark's insta-kill damage to reflect back at the player.
• Fixed an issue where Necromancy Shields would cause conjured spirits to despawn.
• These are now classified as having an 'Underworld connection' which allows them to maintain conjured spirits, but they cannot be used to conjure them.
• Paralyse delay for conjured spirits is now capped at 2 cycles as previously the ghost was 1 cycle longer and causing issues with things such as life transfer
• Fixed an issue with the action bar frame where the graphics were drawn incorrectly
Necromancy
• Fixed an issue that would cause the conjure abilities to be locked in the Command version.
• A typo in the 'Command Skeleton Warrior' ability description has been fixed.
• The deathday cake on the roof of the Last Call can now be examined correctly.
• Fixed an issue where users were unable to complete the 'Draugr Me to Hela' achievement due to two of fourteen Listless Dead missing the option to free them.
• Updated the spawn rate of the Soul Strike projectile.
Ancient Awakening
• In Ancient Awakening, the Raptor now correctly directs players to the first floor.
• We have stopped the companions from joining the conversation with the Archivist on Ungael after the completion of Ancient Awakening.
• Granny Rowan will now only utilise noted items from within your backpack when preparing your potions.
• We have updated the Zombies within the Combat Arena of Ancient Awakening to better reflect that they are Zemouegeal's evil Necromantic summons.
Halloween
• Removed passive light source protection buff from Ensouled & regular Pumpkin Masks for Ironman players.
• Party Pumpkins and Smashing Pumpkins have been made bigger and brighter to help alleviate visibility problems.
• Pumpkin Pete is now standing on a crate, making him easier to distinguish at his ritual patch in Fort Forinthry.
• The Holiday portal located in Priffdinas teleports the player to an ongoing holiday event.
• The overhead emotes warning now only shows as a spam chat message.
• Both Rotten and Normal masks now have a "Check" option while worn, allowing to check how many pumpkins have been smashed.
General
• Fixed an issue with the size of the chat head model for the Micah pet.
• Players now cannot chop a tree with a Blessed hatchet until level 30 Woodcutting.
• The position of the 'Skeletal Vial' animation override has been adjusted and is now held in the correct hand.
• The specific quick-chat bubble appears when using the Wilderness flash event option.
• Token rewards from Treasure Hunter should now be delivered to the Inventory if the Bank is full.
• Fixed an issue that would prevent the Grand Exchange value from updating on the Smithing interface based on the tier of the item.
• Fixed the DXP timer from visually pausing on mobile if the chat was opened.
• A volume slider is added to the Options menu in the lobby while on a mobile device.
• Fixed an issue that resulted in no XP being awarded when using Protean Essence with the Protean Processor at levels 72 - 76 Runecrafting.
• Fixed a typo in the examine texts of skill training dummy crates.
• A grammatical error in the 'Raksha Observations' page has been corrected.
• The Decorated Hunter Urn crafting menu now shows the amount of Mud Runes from the Rune Pouch.
• Fixed a typo within the teleport interface for Nature's sentinel helm.
• Fixed an issue with a small amount of map tiles near the Crafting Guild that forced the player to move east when stepped on.
• Crocodile handling at Het's Oasis can no longer be done while running Make-X actions.
• Fixed an issue that caused the Dwarven Instinct Aura unlock display multiple times as chat notification at once.
• Fixed an issue where Death's dialogue box could appear during cutscenes.
• The full stop was removed from the end of the sentence while setting up the Effigy Incubator when talking to Vicendithas.
• The noticeboard outside of the Artisan's Workshop has been removed. This was intended to provide players with information after the M&S rework and is no longer needed in-game.

• Fixed functionality to only deposit logs and bird nests when interacting with log piles in Woodcutter's Grove.
• The 'Taking it easy' rest animation no longer loops infinitely.
