The Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa

Relive the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa through a unique event.

With Field of Glory II: Medieval we will be reproducing the historical clash between the Christian forces of King Alfonso VIII of Castile, Sancho VII of Navarre and Peter II of Aragon, against the Almohad army, led by The caliph al-Nasir.

The event will offer an accurate analysis of the battle, thanks to expert Jose A. Marquez Periano and our streaming partner Richard Yorke who will retrace the salient phases and curiosities of the fighting that marked a turning point in the Reconquista and in the medieval history of Spain.

The appointment is for July 16th, on SlitherineTV at 5pm BST/ 12pm EDT / 9am PDT

Field of Glory II: Medieval - Reconquista Tournament

Reconquista, the first DLC for Field of Glory II: Medieval has just been released and for the occasion, we are pleased to announce a new public tournament. This will be played using the normal Field of Glory 2 Medieval Multiplayer system and our automated tournament system.
Anyone who has Field of Glory II Medieval can enter, you do not need to own any DLCs to enter.
To enter, go to the tournament page: Here

The general tournament rules can be found: Here

The first round will commence on Monday 7th June 2021 at 10.00am UTC. No further entries can be accepted after the tournament has begun.

Specific tournament rules:

This tournament will involve five rounds. Each round will last 14 days. The battles will be Medium-sized custom battles:

- Catalonia 1090 AD: Andalusian 1050-1154  AD (Taifa of Zaragoza) with Castilian 1050-1154 AD allies vs Catalan 1050-1136 AD. Mediterranean Agricultural.

- Andalusia 1212 AD: Castilian/Leonese 1200-1319 AD with Aragonese 1200-1274 allies vs Berber (Almohad) 1121-1269 AD. Mediterranean Agricultural.

- Occitanie 1213 AD: Aragonese 1200-1274 with French 1155-1319 AD allies vs French 1155-1319 AD. Mediterranean Agricultural.

- Apulia 1041 AD: Italo-Norman 1041-1049 AD with Lombard 1038-1049 AD allies vs Byzantine (Italy) 1040-1049 AD. Mediterranean Agricultural.

- Lombardy 1237 AD: Sicilian 1200-1266 AD vs Italian (Guelf) 1200-1319 AD.  Mediterranean Agricultural.

Games are paired, so each matchup will be played both ways. Each player will be able to choose his forces using the normal force selection system. In each round, all players will be playing on the same randomly generated map for both games.

First round pairings will be selected randomly, subsequent rounds using the Swiss Chess system. Nobody will play the same opponent in more than one round.

The scoring system is as follows:

- If a game runs to the turn limit, each side scores points equal to the enemy % routed at the turn limit. If the game times out, adjustments may be made, depending on how far the game has progressed and who took longer over their turns – see below.

- If one army breaks, the victorious player scores 60 points plus the difference between the enemy % routed and his own % routed. The loser scores points equal to the winner's % routed.

Examples:

1) If Ben defeats Tamas's army, and has inflicted 45% routed on Tamas, and Tamas has inflicted 15% on Ben, Ben will score 60 + (45 – 15) = 90, Tamas will score 15.

2) However, if Ben defeated Tamas’s army by inflicting 62% routed on Tamas, and Tamas had inflicted 56% routed on Ben, Ben would get 60 + (62 – 56) = 66 points, and Tamas would get 56.

3) If the game is unfinished (or it reached the turn limit) with Ben inflicting 20% routed on Tamas, and Tamas inflicting 10% routed on Ben, Ben would score 20, and Tamas would score 10. (Provided that between them they have played at least 24 turns in all – see below).

Note that this system rewards aggressive play over desultory skirmishing. If you rout an enemy unit then hide for the rest of the game, both players will get extremely low scores - lower than if they played hard and lost.

Byes:

If an odd number of players sign up for the tournament, one player will get a bye in each round. In the first round this is random. In subsequent rounds it will be the player with the lowest score. The score for a BYE is 75 points for each game.

Round times and timing out:

Each round will last 14 days. Any battles that are not completed by the end of the round will be timed out. The player who has had the game in his “My Turns” box the longest overall will be the one who is deemed to be timed out. This will not normally incur any penalties, unless insufficient turns have been played: If the timed-out player has played less than 18 turns, his score will be reduced proportionately, and his opponent will be granted the BYE score if it exceeds his current score. If the timed-out player has played less than 6 turns, he will not be included in the draw for the next round. This is to prevent someone else’s enjoyment being spoiled by being drawn against someone who has apparently dropped out of the tournament.

Don't let your guard down, as the battle continues in Field of Glory II: Medieval - Reconquista.

Field of Glory II: Medieval - Reconquista is coming soon

"Reconquista" The first DLC of Field of Glory II: Medieval brings the battles related to the Middle Ages in South West Europe.

Feudalism did not have such a dominant impact in Spain and Italy as it had in the rest of Europe and both these lands had unique factors which affected the conduct of warfare:

- Spain 1050, with more than half of the Iberian peninsula under the rule of Islamic states, the era of Christian Reconquista began. It would last until 1492, after centuries of clashes between Berber Empires (Murabits, Almohads and Marinids) and Christian Kingdoms (Aragon, Castile y Leon, etc.).

- In Northern Italy the big cities formed the Lombard League to counter the attempts of the Holy Roman Emperor to enforce his authority over them. This was the cause of the Wars between the Ghibellines who supported the Holy Roman Emperor and the Guelfs that were supporting the Pope.

- In Southern Italy, the Normans rose from humble mercenaries to conquer the whole of southern Italy and establish the great kingdom of Sicily, after conquering the island from the Arabs.

These are the backgrounds, stories and wars that lead to the new DLC, which will include:

 • 20 more nations and factions covering Spain, Italy and North Africa from 1040 AD to 1270 AD. These include Andalusians, Almohads, Arabs, Aragonese, Byzantine Catapanate of Italy, Castilians/Leónese, Catalans, Granadines, Hafsids, Italian Guelfs, Italian Ghibellines, Italo-Normans, Lombards, Marinids, Murabits, Navarrese, Papal, Portuguese, the Kingdom of Sicily and Tuaregs
 • 41 more units and 45 more army lists
 • 8 more historical scenarios covering key engagements of the period on an epic scale. These include Monte Maggiore 1041, Civitate 1053, Cabra 1079, Sagrajas 1086, Legnano 1176, Las Navas De Tolosa 1212, Montaperti 1260 and Benevento 1266.
 • 33 more historical matchups added to Quick Battle mode, increasing the total to 98, playable from either side.
 • 4 more historically-based campaigns covering major leaders and conflicts of the era: El Cid, Muhammad II of Granada, Normans in the South and Frederick II Hohenstaufen.
 • Sandbox campaign expanded to include all the new army lists, allowing you to lead any nation (and their historical allies) against any other nation (and their allies) – giving thousands of permutations.

Patch 1.0.2 - Time Warp

A new patch (v. 1.0.2) for Field of Glory II: Medieval has arrived and will allow all owners of the game to create their own “Time Warp”.

This new feature allows custom battles to be fought between Ancient armies and Medieval armies (or vice versa), and it will be possible to create an infinite number of customized "what-if" battle situations that can be played against an AI or in multiplayer.

So if you ever wanted to find out how Normans would have fared against Augustus’s legions, or Assyrians against Teutonic Knights, now is your chance.

Note that it will not be possible to create a fight between two Ancient armies.

To set up an anachronistic matchup you will need to click on the “Select another module” button (in the Custom Battle setup screen) and turn off the Date and Geographical filters in the Enemy Army List selection panel.

 • Fixed bug that could cause duplicate general names in campaign battle if general’s unit dismounted before additional general added.
