Dev Update #10 “Big fish (or bear) in a small pond”

Hello Owners!

For this new update, we focused on adding more personalities & characters to the game.

It’s the big comeback of our favorite bear, Ant’ny Barr! But as good (or bad?) news never comes alone, he comes with Nat Kiddin the ferocious police officer. They both might bring you a lot of money, but beware as these two could be trouble, more than you can handle.
If you were starting to be bored by miners destroying your slot with their pickaxes, the mobster threatening everyone around, and the tourist spending most of their time taking pictures rather than playing, you’ll be happy to welcome some new clients! The police officers are good clients but don’t mix well with mobsters. Choose which baseball team you’ll support, and their fans will spend in your casino. Finally, the rockabillies will bring some fun and dancing and start the party!

Welcome your newest clients!

Each client type comes with special tastes and expectations!

The Rockabilly
Welcome the slicked fur, leather jacket, and swing dresses, a new style is in town! They’re young and they want to have fun.
  • They love arcade games, with all the noise and the excitement that comes with it. They love using the photo booth to take romantic pictures, fun memories, and sometimes some little pranks.
  • They are breaking the old traditions, old fashioned is out of fashion. They go for anything sweets, soda cocktails, and milkshakes for the win.
  • Obviously, they are huge music fans and love dancing. The more jukeboxes, the happier they are. But they have very peculiar tastes and won’t hesitate to change songs for their favorite genre, the Rockabilly.

The baseball fans
Baseball is big in the area. Almost everyone has a favorite team that they support wholeheartedly. Bringing baseball fans in is good for business, but you’ll have to choose a team, there is no neutrality in baseball.
  • Even if they don’t play it themselves, baseball fans like to picture themselves as great athletes. They will play anything that implies some agility skills to prove themselves.
  • Their team is everything to them, and they will expect the same from you. Try to show some support with your decorations colors and theme, it will make them happy.
  • Used to the stadium, they might not take care of their surroundings as you’d like. Be prepared to hire a few more custodians to deal with their dirtiness.

The Police Officers
Where you find mobsters, you find police officers. Like anyone they just want to have a good time, but they sometimes have trouble leaving the job behind. Difficult for them to do nothing when witnessing misdemeanors around. That might get your other clients on edge.
  • Police officers are serious people and prefer cards and dice games.
  • As they are a little uptight, they don’t like laziness or clumsiness. They’ll however be very happy to see employees performing well and being thorough in their tasks.
  • Mobsters are their natural enemies. And even in this little place of truce, they won’t resist making some arrest if they see some misfit.

VIPs grand comeback

Ant’ny’s back
The luckiest among you already met Ant’ny a couple of playtests ago. He is back and here to stay. This big bear is the head of the new crime family who just "ousted" (read: murdered) the Rheeves family. Oddly enough he's not a high roller. When he's around he plays very tight, but he loves to be served by his favorites. If you don't have a staff that he approves of... expect trouble... big trouble. Broken items, maybe even a dead staff member or two... clean up in slots!”

New in town: Nat Kiddin
This ferocious cheethat is no other than one of the most feared police officers in town. Her motto: “shoot first, talk later.” When it comes to law and order, she sees the world in black and white. Her itchy trigger finger gets results, which is why the Sheriff’s department keeps her on the payroll, but there’s always collateral damage, and the department has to do damage control after Hurricane Nat has come through. Expect some unhappy customers if she finds people and things not to her liking.
When Nat shows up, make sure she's got no reason to suspect anything underhanded is going on, or you'll be cleaning up broken glass and having to give free drinks and free chips to upset customers, if she doesn't shut you down.

“Swiper no swiping”
  • Some clients now have the ability to cheat at your attractions, making you lose money
  • You can catch them yourselves, but it will be more efficient to hire guards to do so
Plant wear
Plants will wither over time, and if you don’t take care of it, it will lower the casino beauty
You can water them yourself, or hire custodians to do so

New level
A new level has been added, available from the level selector. It comes with new challenges, mostly focusing around the new clients: the baseball fan, the rockabillies and the police officers

Bugfix:
  • Clients can no longer go in staff-only areas
  • Fixed some missing text in clients’ log panel
  • Fixed some bathroom issues where clients didn’t satisfy their need
  • Fixed an issue where bartenders wouldn't restock if they were assigned after the end of the month
  • Fixed issues with glass walls rendering
  • Fixed a lot of issues with the French localization

And that’s all for this update. As always, do not hesitate to share your thoughts and questions as we make progress to the development of Blooming Business: Casino. We want to share with you how we progress and are always keen for feedback!

Dev Update #9 “Context is everything”

Hello Owners!

We hope that the year started well for all of you! On our side we are fired up as ever to bring you the best game we can, but first what is for us the last update of 2021! This update brings a lot of improvement all around, but the most noticeable one is the addition of context, not only on stories. We also added some context around casinos’ levels and clients’ motivations.

Stories improvements

Stories used to appear out of nowhere and more often than not disturbing the gameplay. No one wants to deal with petty thieves while building the cutest restroom right? Stories now appear in the 3D world on the affected area/item/agent, giving it more context. You can choose to play them at your will, but beware of what might happen if you choose to not deal with it.
We also improved the overhaul stories display with a beautiful UI and dashing artworks.

Anecdotes

In a similar vein, we added and made some improvements to what we call “anecdotes”. It's all the small events that appears on the floor such as clashes and chitchat. We added some crowd events such as cheering when someone hit the jackpot.

Clients log

Clients’ behaviors might sometimes be hard to understand, which can be an issue when you are trying so hard to make them happy. We added some logs into their panel (the one with their stat and all when left-clicking on them) that should bring light on why they do what they do. This new information should help you know what you can improve in your casino to make them happy, and more importantly to make them give you more money.

Level Selector

We added a new level selector. Right now we have only two levels, but it already give a good idea of what we’re aiming for. It adds more information on level content, and also some lore about our clients types and overall world. It’s still rough and most of the content is placeholder, but in the end it should be a really nice way to learn more about the levels you’ll be playing !

Graphical experiment

If you launch the level “Tikki Miner Mobster’s pie”, you will see that the environment has changed from play daylight to night. We are still trying some things out, but we thought that the night would enhance the festive casino feeling.

Bugfix
  • Fixed some issues with wall decorations
  • Fixed save issue with stairs
  • Fixed issues with bar restock and icons
  • Fixed errors in the financial report’s data and formulas
  • Made some adjustments to the pinball playtime sequence
  • Fixed issues with floors where some items from the upper floor appeared on the bottom floor

Dev Update #8 “Make yourself at home”

Hello Owners!

You’ve been pleading for it, and we heard you ! It cost us some sweat and tears, but we finally added a construct mode. Walls! Floors! Stanchions! You can build the interior of your casino however you want! We also added a sandbox level where you are free to play as you please. It’s the perfect place to try out the new construct mode.
However, it’s still rough, specifically the interface. But we plan of improving it before early access, don’t worry.

Construct mode

The construct mode allows you to build & destroy walls inside of your casino and to customize floors. You cannot customize the outside of your casino with it. But beware that you don’t lock up your employees or clients with these new tools. You are also able to modify “automatic” walls that come with certain areas such as Restroom, Locker room & Breakroom.

  • Catalog: We added a second catalog with construct mode items. In it, you’ll find the stairs, the walls builder, the walls covering & the floors.
    - Walls builder: it’s only to build new walls. You can choose between concrete walls and glass walls.
    - Walls covering: this category is for walls customizations. You can choose between some tapestries and other cladding like brick, marble…
    - Floors: you can customize your floors with some nice carpets or fancy tiles.
  • Tools: Those are currently super WIP, but you have a tool to sell/destroy walls and a cancel tool.

Sandbox mode

We added a sandbox level that you can access from the main menu, under the “Play” button. In this mode, you won’t have any tutorials or missions. The level is empty with no areas pre-built (apart from the entrance area), you’ll have to build your restroom, break room, locker room … All items are unlocked, and you start with a nice amount of money. We still advise you to start with the main level if you play for the first time, as you might miss some guidance and challenge in the sandbox. But for the more advanced players, it’s the perfect place to try out new builds and strategies!

Bar improvement

In the last update, we added a lot of features on the bar, with drinks & stock management. But it was still missing some features. We added some small improvements that give it a lot more flavor.
  • Duty stock: you can choose which bartender will go get the restock crate, and which will stay to operate the bar.
  • Open bar: You made some mistakes when planning your monthly stock and you left with a lot of extras at the end of the month? Don’t worry! It’s time for an open bar, free drinks for everyone! You won’t make money with it, but tipsy clients might be good for you.
  • Waiters: Witing line on your bar start to get crowded? It’s time to hire a waiter! They will bring drinks to your clients, making everyone gain some time and drink some more.

Bugfix

Walls decorations now snap to walls
Fixed catalog search
Fixed some issues with employees when they were tired but unable to take a break
Fixed some issues and wrong feedbacks on restroom needs

Dev Update #7 “Pardon my French, but this is a hell of an update !”

Hello Owners!

We’re back with, wait for it, a FREE DEMO! As this free demo goes with the Games Made In France event we are taking part in, we felt that it was the right time to add French localization. We worked hard to improve the depth of our existing systems, giving you an idea of what we’re aiming for in the final game. We hope you’ll have fun with this new update!

French localization

You might think that as French is our native language this was an easy one, but it was a crash test for our localization process, and there were some bumps on the road. Also, translating so many jokes was not easy. But we are very happy with the result (looking at you Aristortolan & Platonlaveur)! However it’s possible that there is still some untranslated text or some spelling mistakes, please be indulgent.

New casino layout & areas

In our last update, we added a tool to allow you to draw areas as you wish. It was the first step, and we added new areas to give more control over your casinos, but to also add some challenges on how to lay them out.
  • Games areas: we separated games areas into more specific areas such as Slot areas, Cards areas, arcade areas… It should give you more ideas on how to set up your casino, game by game.
  • Locker area: this is a new area! In this one, you’ll be able to hire floor staff such as custodians (used to be called janitors) and guards.
  • Breakroom: employees used to be some kind of robot doing their tasks repeatedly. But it won’t be as easy now as we added more depth to them. They might be tired of working non-stop and will need to use the breakroom to relax a bit before going back to work.
  • Warehouse: This is where your drinks will be stocked before your bartenders use them to restock their respective bars.

Multi-floored casino !

In the meantime, we reworked the casino layout to give it more personality and add a little more challenge as it is a bit smaller than before. But don’t worry, multi-floored casinos are here! Your casino can now have multiple floors so you can optimize your business and design your masterpiece building as you like

Tutorial & progression

Based on previous feedback from playtests we tried to give more indications about features that are not straightforward.

We also added some progression with objectives. It’s all tied to your client’s satisfaction, the happier they are the more progress you’ll make. Pay attention to what they like and dislike and everything should go smoothly! As the game progresses you’ll have a variety of clients, and satisfying them all might be quite the challenge.

Bar management

We noted that despite Blooming Business being a casino game, most players were really into bars! The bar management was really barebone, so we reworked it to offer more options & challenges. You’ll have to manage what drinks you offer, and how much you stock. But beware, as restock only happens every month, you may find yourself with nothing to serve, or losing remaining stock if you did not anticipate properly.

And with that, we finally added a very important trait that clients were missing: sobriety! Keep an eye on your alcoholic beverage consumption, tipsy clients might be good for business, but they quickly become inebriated, and nothing good comes from that.

We also added new bars! Each one has a different theme and serve an exclusive drink in addition to the ordinary ones:
  • Greek bar serves Negroni
  • Tiki bar serves Mai Tai
  • Space bar serves White Russian

Employees

As hinted by the new areas, we reworked our employees’ behavior. They have a limited energy supply and will make more and more mistakes as they start to get tired. Fortunately, they’ll be able to take some rest in the new breakroom area, but their station will be left empty during this time. You can change when they get to take a break in the areas’ panels, but there’s no easy answer as less break means worse work, and vice versa.

We also added more choices when hiring Employees. They have different levels of experience, and you can choose between different candidates depending on their stats and needs. But don’t think that you can hire and fire them without blinking, as new candidates will only appear every month. So when finding a good one, you should try to keep them!

Client types

Three types of customers will now visit your casino, Tourists, Mobsters and Miners, each of them with its very distinct look. Make them happy and you will attract more clients of the same type, grow your reputation and your income.

Collapses & balance

As a reminder, if a client’s need falls to 0, you will notice them behaving strangely on your casino floor: drinking in fountains, starting fights with other clients etc.
At this point, you might have seen those clients’ collapses come and go from the game. As fun as it was to have a casino full of people drawing on the floor, it was kinda game-breaking. We work hard to put them back in the game, with a lot of improvement to avoid the previous issues. You’ll get notified sometime before collapses happen, so you’ll be able to do something about it, and collapsed clients will then angrily leave your casino instead of staying there forever.

Make the most beautiful & fun casino!

  • Items catalog: In our previous playtests we got a lot of complaints about the catalog’s navigation that was, let’s say, “not optimal”. We separated items into categories (Furniture, Sculptures,...) and added some filter options.
  • New decorations: Many decorations were added since the previous demo. They are now grouped in four themes (Tiki, Space, Greek and Business) with multiple new wall decorations including a rocket(!). • These items will be a great help to cater to the needs of your clients.
  • New entertainment options for the clients. Casino-goers will be able to play Yahtzee or Yam's, a classic dice game, learn about their future with Sssoltar the soothsayer automation, play Pinball or compete on the Dartboard, to add a little spice to their fun sessions.

Bugfix:

  • Game save have been re-enabled
  • UI: we fixed a lot of UI bugs such as panels going hover others or being out of the screen
  • Optimization: we fixed the drop in framerate due to notifications, and did an overall optimization of the game
  • Attractions tweaks: there were some issues on attractions options such as RTP or Casino Cut that have been fixed
  • Fixed a bug in the 'High Roller Who's a High Tipper' event

And that’s all for this update. As always, do not hesitate to share your thoughts and questions as we make progress to the development of Blooming Business: Casino. We want to share with you how we progress and are always keen for the feedback!
