Builders of China - Devlog #6 - "Place to live - a simple and lovely hut!"

Hello Builders!
Last time we talked briefly about villagers hair and you provided us with a lot of feedback regarding your favourites. This time we'd love to see your opinions about... houses!

Beta test sign-ups are still on-going and we invite you all to send your application in order to have a chance to play the game and check it for yourself a little bit earlier!
There simply cannot be a builder without a building they themselves could call their home. Everyone of us needs to take a breather in a safe haven provided by our own 4 walls and that is a truth that has been known through ages. Our lovely subjects, working for the glory of the Empire, also need to rest and sleep somewhere and we had the lovely opportunity to design their houses and farmlands.

We were quite dedicated to make sure that even a small detail would look appropriately as we discussed the house design with our specialists in the particular field. On the picture you can see the designs and how they evolved through time. Even something that might seem trivial as grass placement or the positioning of flowers near the hut is not a thing we can omit - a heated (yet civilized!) discussions took place to make sure that we can find the best spot for each of the features and to make sure that the overall image of the farm stays creatively diverse and atmospheric.

And to make it more clear for you - looking at the picture:

The linearts presents the early concepts for the huts and placements of features around them. That is an important stage as we need to at least limit the number of concepts before going into another step.

Then some more detailed work was done to ensure that we can find just the right look for our building. Afterall we would love for its dwellers to feel as happy as they can!

Then you can see the final creation for thist particular concept art - image of the hut from its front and back.

We think it looks lovely but more importantly - what do you think about this little glimpse into the game?

Hope the New Year is treating you well! Stay tuned for more soon!

Best regards,
Builders of China Team

Builders of China - Devlog #5 - "Hair of a builder"

Hello Builders!
Game development is inseparably linked with art creation and concepting! This time we would love to explore the characters that will live in the world of the game we’re creating and we invite you to join us!
Builders of China is about us supervising the grand process of building a great empire but at the same time it’s about people (builders!) walking, working and living in the places that we have prepared for them. And all of those people need their own faces, their own hairstyles, clothes, boots and so on! During the game development we have explored many different ideas and consulted our specialists from the fields of Chinese culture in order to make sure that we have a wide selection of “looks” available for our builders.

As you can see we have prepared several different variations of the hairstyles for our female villagers. Do remember that when you create concept art you explore a variety of possibilities - we can’t say that all of them you will see in the game itself. It’s also difficult for us to choose a clear favourite among those options but we feel like you might be able to tell us more about those that you liked the best!

Of course we’re not forgetting about male builders that you will be able to spot in the game. In this case we’ve tried exploring not only hairstyle but also beards and facial hair, checking what would look the best on our brave villagers. As you might already know we’re still working on the visual aspects of our game and our artists are busy preparing many different variations of which most likely a small percentage will find the way into a final game. Us sharing these concept arts with you is a small glimpse into incredibly potent word of art creation for game development and we would like to also this moment in order to appreciate all artists involved in the projects.

Now that you had the chance to see them - which are your favourite concepts?

Best regards,
Builders of China Team
