What started as a bug fix became a complete re-write of the Game Maker audio system using Ethan Lee's FAudio! Everything sounds better, and we laid the foundation for more dynamic sound possibilities in future updates.

Audio Overhaul
  • greatly increased the quality of music files
  • adjusted spatial audio to pan more dramatically
  • certain levels now have a custom audio effect chain (like reverb effects)
  • added sound effect to kill streak kills
  • music ducks out briefly on kills based on match progress
  • sound effects and music are now in the data directory for easy modding
  • fixed adventure mode crash that affected certain players


Other Features and Gameplay Changes
  • Mirror matches! Multiple players can now choose the same character.
  • Modified one of the World 1 timer levels with the crawler enemies to be less intense
  • Sticky goo now has SFX


Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
  • audio overhaul improved performance on lower spec machines
  • fixed dev hotkeys desyncing the game
  • fixed a whole set of bugs that were crashing the game
  • fixed bug where falling bodies would constantly make noise on moving platforms
  • fixed framerate getting destroyed when Otomo gets the shuriken power-up
  • fixed getting stuck in the goo on moving platform levels

The mysterious Gunn Powder Knight is here! Helmsley is our first character update for Samurai Gunn 2. He can grind for unlimited ammo and stomp on bullets—even his own! Check out his movelist:



We know what you’re thinking... No, there is no ammo limit! Grind as much as you want, but don't get greedy! Helmsley gets weighed down by each bullet, making hoarders easy prey.

So who is this deadly machine? One of these new Versus stages may lift a ragged curtain on Helmsley's past:

Introducing Lives Mode, the new default for online matchmaking! Can you cut down your opponents’ bamboo before they do? You have ten lives, so make ‘em count! Even those Spelunky traps are deadlier now...

To make these levels possible, we built some intense new graphics tech! First up is dynamic water caustic reflection. Hi Fi meets Lo Fi!





And how about some fully dynamic cloth? Push it! Slash it! If it's hanging by a thread, our wind system will even rip it apart!

Features and Gameplay Changes
  • Changed tumble fall and wall bounce behavior
  • Slug can now fast fall during tumble (but it increases tumble duration!)
  • Adjusted Slug's kunai tilt inputs to be more forgiving
  • Adjusted bullet-wall collision masks
  • Pops can no longer trap his opponents in the jelly
  • Pops's throw goes in the direction of his last input instead of defaulting to right if no input is pressed
  • Arrows can now be re-fed to Spelunky arrow traps when deflected
  • You can now take screenshots with Steam by pressing F12


Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
  • Fixed an interaction where Pops would explode if he shot downward while standing upside down on goo ceilings
  • Fixed Golem’s super bullet making other bullets appear super
  • Fixed Hayao wall-jump height being inconsistent between the left and right walls
  • Ana's rope can’t go out of bounds on non wrap levels anymore
  • Controller detection adjustments
  • Fix Bamboo not drawing when it wrapped the screen (noticeable on Canyon)
  • Fixed fullscreen setting not loading correctly
  • Fixed several collision-related desyncs
  • Fixed various crashes
  • Fixed joining friend’s invites from the desktop resulting in a black screen
  • Menu rendering optimizations
