Greetings everyone, Carlos here, CEO at Blini Games! A new week is here, so I bring you some more notes about
Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2. When it comes to the making of the music for your game, you always face the same decisions: Do I want to invest in an OST, or am I better off using free resources? The real question here is, do you want for the music in your game to become one of the key elements that define the story that you are telling, or do you want it to be a thing that you are just forced to put in, just for the sake of it?
We knew that the music should play an important role in
Lovecraft’s Untold Stories, so we decided to hire a studio that would compose the Original Soundtrack for us.

In the search for a composer, our recommendation is to go to Game Development themed Facebook groups (a pretty good one is IndieGame Devs), and publish a job offer. You will surely get lots of proposals. Check the portfolio of those you like the most, and try to reach an agreement. What is the ideal pricing? Hard to tell, it really depends on the experience of the composer and how good you are at negotiating. We got offers from 70$ to 1000$ per song, and from 5$ to 100$ per sound effect, and to be honest, the difference between them wasn’t even that big...
AND FROM ITALY, FLEW THE RED OWL
It was precisely in that Facebook group where we found our Italian friends
Enrico Scatto and
Riccardo Salin, who by that time ran the studio called
Red Owl. They offered us their services after seeing one of the screenshots that we published. The enthusiasm of their message and the desire they had to work on a project based on Lovecraft convinced us instantly.
Little did we know about how crazy these guys were… but
AWESOME crazy, mind you. They got the vibes of the project immediately just by seeing the first images and videos, and got to work… Not only on the music, but also on the sound effects. As for Part 1, along with the pixel-art graphics, the music is one of the top elements that buyers and critics liked the most.
Of course, when they learned that we were developing
Lovecraft’s Untold Stories 2, they jumped in… And they are really nailing it. We haven´t given them any guidelines other than the visual materials of the levels... And the total freedom of creativity is paying up.
Here you can take a glimpse of their creative process behind the OST:

Don't forget to wishlist the game if you haven't already to stay up to date on all the upcoming news. We'll be seeing you soon with more exciting updates about our game.
Until next time!
