Broken Roads News

In November last year, the Australian post-apocalyptic CRPG Broken Roads was abruptly delayed mere days before it was meant to come out. Review code had even been sent out to press. But it was clear that the game needed more time in the oven, as developers Drop Bear Bytes acknowledged they needed "additional polish time and QA manpower" to test the "thousands of permutations" available in its deeply decision-driven storyline. Happily, that polish time has now come to an end, as the devs have today announced a fresh release date of April 10th.

You were a lost pup. Your parents ditched you at a remote station when you were an infant. The manager brought you in, the station hands took to you, and you became a kind of mascot to them. You grew up with tools, and can fix most simple machines. You learned how to read an animal, care for its injuries, and put it to work. They taught you to hunt, giving you the skills to survive just about anywhere.

[h3]Hey everyone! Today we're taking a closer look into our Moral Compass feature. [/h3]

The Moral Compass is Broken Roads’ unique take on morality and alignment. It allows the characters’ morality to shift based on the player’s actions and decisions gradually.

Before starting your post-apocalyptic adventure you will be asked a series of questions about different scenarios you might encounter while on your journey in the land down under. Now answer them honestly because once you do, you'll notice 4 different traits.

These are the four distinct moral philosophies in Broken Roads...

[h3]Humanist[/h3] - "Each person’s dignity matters most"
I choose all meaning and thus what matters, but what is inalienable is that every person has worth.

Benefit: This character gains bonuses when supporting allies.



[h3]Utilitarian[/h3] - "Everyone’s happiness combined matters most"
The greatest good for the greatest number

Benefit: This character gains bonuses when supporting the weakest ally.



[h3]Machiavellian[/h3] - "My team/group matters most"
The ends justify the means.

Benefit and Restriction: This character can perform any action in combat regardless of harm to allies but does not gain any bonuses.



[h3]Nihilist[/h3] - "I matter most"
Nothing matters, and that doesn't bother me.

Benefit: This character gains bonuses when supporting themselves.
