Hello Tricksters!

It’s time for the annual Trivia Tricks Spook-aversary event, where we come together to experience the collective fear of Halloween and the march of time. This Spook-aversary marks the third year of Trivia Tricks’ active development and today we bring you a whole new type of question!



Trivia Tricks questions no longer require 4 answers, meaning question formats like “True or False” are now possible! Alongside Question Explanations (introduced in the last update) this forms another part of our final Early Access milestone to make new question types possible in Trivia Tricks. The limited-time Halloween category features a number of ‘True or False’ questions and you’ll see them in our other categories soon!

Like Question Explanations, questions with 2 or 3 answers will be made available for user-created Workshop packs in a future update. We have one more question type in active development that will be announced soon, so be sure to follow Trivia Tricks to be the first to know... (📸)



Trivia Tricks’ seasonal events always come with new cosmetics to earn! This year you’ll find a Mimic hat with terrifying animated teeth, Spider Eyes that put pupils all over your face, a Plague Mask complete with a long nose, antenna-like Alien Eyes that stick out your head and a full Robot costume (made out of cardboard). All of these can be earned through candy that’s earned through regular games!



In addition, the challenge and cosmetics from the previous three Spook-aversary events are also back! If you missed them last time around then you have until November 9th to make it right!



The Halloween Stage has had a visual overhaul, with a new skybox, rustling grass, a haunted-house renovation and ominous rain. Enjoy the new extra-spooky vibe!

Oh, and to top this all off, the limited-time Halloween category has been extended with over 100 new questions covering both Halloween history and the latest in horror media. So stop hiding behind the sofa and get quizzing!

• Play games to get candy! Use this candy to unlock Halloween cosmetics in the Character Creator!
  
• Spend that candy on the new-for-2023 Mimic Hat, Spider Eyes, Plague Mask, Alien Eyes, Robot Head and Robot Body!
  
• Plus, the challenges and cosmetics from the previous three events are also available, check them out in the Character Creator!
  
• The Halloween stage has been updated! Featuring a new vibrancy and bespoke visual effects!
  
• The Halloween category returns with around 100 new questions!
  
• The Halloween category now contains some questions with only 2 answers, using a ‘True or False’ format!
  
• Explanations are also available for the relevant Halloween category questions!
  

• Some Trivia Tricks questions will now only have 2 or 3 answer options instead of the usual 4!
  
• These new question types will debut in the Halloween category! Keep an eye out for more planned in the other categories in a future update!
  
• In addition, soon you’ll be able to create questions with only 2 or 3 answer options through Steam Workshop!
  
• Some items cannot be used when a question with only 2 or 3 answer options is being asked. This is marked by a warning sign in the player's inventory when this is the case.
  
• Summer's boss battle in both the online and offline modes has been updated to accommodate questions with 2 or 3 answer options.
  
• Fixed a bug where the character selection screen portrait was fuzzy for every character but the first.

Today's update brings a brand new feature, questions can now have "explanations"! These explanations will appear after certain questions to shed light on why an answer is correct or give fun and educational background details!



We've added explanations to some questions in every base-game category, and we're happy to share that explanations will be available for user-created Workshop packs in a future update. In addition, we are actively working on new types of questions for both the base-game and Workshop as part of the 1.0 release. Follow Trivia Tricks to be the first to know what these great additions will be! 👀

• Questions can have explanations! Trickier questions will have additional information, or maybe a fun fact, after they've been answered.
  
• The streak and speed icons have been updated.
  
• Fixed an issue where character portraits didn't update after overwriting a character and then moving to the Character Select Screen.
  
• The Steam Deck now runs using version 7 of Proton as Workshop categories weren't loading for lobby hosts in Proton 8.
  
• Fixed an issue where, if the lobby was created in a more recent version of Trivia Tricks, the dialog box could incorrectly report that the lobby couldn't be joined as there's an ongoing seasonal event.
  
• Fixed an issue where the Boss AI was more likely to pick the bottom answer when guessing the answer to a question.
  
• Fixed an issue where the 'Double Down' item's arrows could cover one of the answers.
  
• Fixed several issues with the 'Double Down' item's arrows disappearing after use.
  
• Improved some menu transitions' background blurs.
  
• Fixed an issue where the "The host closed the lobby" message would cover a Friend Pass player's unlocks.

Hello Tricksters! How are you enjoying the Summer Splash event?

Today's update continues to focus on implementing your suggested QoL improvements and polish, with the intention to prepare Trivia Tricks for its graduation from Early Access!



This update redesigns the Save and Load menus in the Character Creator, giving you a preview of the character you're selecting.

In addition, this update adds a new option to the Pause Menu which will return all players to the lobby, making it easier to adjust settings without needing to host a new game!

Oh, one final thing, the Summer Splash event has been extended by a week to September 8th! Make sure to complete and claim your Summer prizes before they're gone!

These aren't the only changes implemented in this update, below you'll find the full patch notes!

• A button to restart the current lobby has been added! If you made a mistake when setting up the lobby then the host can press this button in the Pause Menu to end the game early!
  
• The Save and Load menus in the Character Creator have been completely overhauled! They will now show the character that you are going to overwrite/load.
  
• The Summer Splash Event has been extended to September 8th! Get completing those missions!
  
• The ‘Hinder other players with items’ challenge has been made easier. It now only requires hinder items to be used 3 times instead of 5!
  
• It’s now possible for Trivia Tricks to be launched using Vulkan by adding -Vulkan as a launch parameter. This is an experimental setting which may be unstable and is not recommended for regular use.
  
• Tricksters now breathe at slightly different speeds from each other. This stops the idle animations being synchronized.
  
• Some menus have been adjusted in preparation for an upcoming major feature...
  
• The quality of characters in the Character Select Screen has been improved.
  
• Fixed a bug where characters wouldn't hold the Potato properly.
  
• Fixed a bug where using the Voodoo item just as the final player answers would cause the question timer to restart while the player was still choosing who to use the Voodoo item on.

It's that time of year where we head over to Isle del Trickster for our holiday getaway!
The Summer Splash event will be available from now until September 1st!



The default stage is now set to the Isle del Trickster! We hope you'll enjoy some quality time by the ocean!



Summer Splash includes some limited-time challenges and exclusive cosmetics! There are 6 new challenges as well 18 returning from previous years. Some challenges will reward you with Summer Shells that can be exchanged for cosmetics, while others grant exclusive items!



There’s a new set of challenges with a focus on Chance Round and the new items. If you need help with a challenge don't hesitate to make use of the Trivia Tricks Discord! As always, all of the cosmetics from last year have returned too, so grab them while you can!

The full patch notes are as follows...

• The Summer Splash event is back! From now until September 1st complete limited-time challenges to unlock exclusive items!
  
• The Isle del Trickster stage has been made the default stage for the duration of the event!
  
• The missions from last year have returned, along with 6 new missions focused on the Chance Round and Items.
  
• Alongside the 16 returning cosmetics, unlock 6 new summer-themed items, including a Diver Helmet and Retro Shades!
  
• For the duration of the Summer event, bosses will also be dressed for the occasion!
  
• Friend Pass players can earn progress towards missions, but only owners of the full game can redeem mission rewards.
  

• You can now view statistics about your usage of items in a new page in the Statistics menu.
  
• Keyboard players can now use the R key to use items as well as the Q key.
  

• Fixed an issue causing the icon for the item in your inventory to look lower quality than it should.
  
• Fixed visual interaction oddities between a moving Hot Potato and character outlines.
