Content Patch #9 -- Hotfix #13

The game has been patched to re-balance a few Essences and add a new Korean localization.

New Content
  • Re-translated and improved the game's Korean localization

New Features
  • Added editable color hex codes to LBAL-Settings.save that allow players to change a few of the in-game colors (a UI to edit these colors is planned for a later patch, but I wanted to partially add this feature so that users who were experiencing discomfort from the bright colors of the game could modify them immediately) The color hex codes will currently only take effect if modified while the game is closed

Game Balance
  • Booster Pack Essence no longer adds Rare symbols (it still adds Uncommon and Very Rare symbols)
  • Cardboard Box Essence now gives 3 Removal Tokens after 12 spins (instead of 6 Removal Tokens)
  • Conveyor Belt Essence now makes symbols 2x more likely to add symbols (instead of 3x)
  • Copycat Essence now requires 4 adjacent Cats to trigger (instead of 3 adjacent Cats) and makes Cats give 1.5x more coins (instead of 2x more coins, they also still become Wildcards)
  • Cursed Katana Essence now makes NInjas give 3 more coins (instead of 2 more coins)
  • Dwarven Anvil Essence now makes Dwarves give 2x more coins (instead of 2.5x more coins)
  • Golden Carrot Essence now makes 2 symbols guaranteed to be Very Rare (instead of 3 symbols)
  • Jack-o'-Lantern Essence now makes Toddlers give 2x more coins (instead of 2.5x more coins)
  • Lemon Essence now destroys itself if there are 4 or more Empty symbols (instead of 3 or more) and makes Empty symbols give 4 more coins (instead of 3 more coins)
  • Oil Can Essence now destroys itself after 7 re-spins (instead of 5 re-spins)
  • Oswald the Monkey Essence now makes Monkeys give 1.5x more coins (instead of 2x more coins)
  • Recycling Essence now gives 8 Recycling Tokens (instead of 10 Recycling Tokens)
  • Rusty Gear Essence now makes symbols give 1.5 more coins (instead of 2x more coins)
  • Shattered Mirror Essence now gives 77 coins (instead of 100 coins)
  • Sunglasses Essence now gives 5 Removal Tokens (instead of 6 Removal Tokens)
  • Swapping Device Essence now destroys itself after 7 swaps (instead of 5 swaps)
  • Tax Evasion Essence now makes symbols give 25 more coins (instead of 20 more coins)
  • Triple Coins Essence now makes Coins give 2 more coins (instead of 3 more coins)
  • Undertaker Essence now makes Spirits give 2 more coins (instead of 1 more coin)
  • Watering Can Essence now makes Seeds give 25 more coins (instead of 10 more coins)

The above balance changes were all made for the same reason:

When essences were initially added, I was a bit too extreme with the power-level of some of them. While I do want essences to make the game easier at lower floors, having some essences be "auto-wins" even on floor 15 was definitely not my intention.

For this reason, several of the more powerful essences have had their power level reduced, and a few less powerful essences have been buffed. The essences I chose to reduce the power level of were ones that could be incredibly powerful if found at early stages of the game.

I would also like to address the folks who have stated that "essences are too powerful." While I don't disagree with you in some instances (hence the balance changes), please keep in mind that the vast majority of "broken" essences aren't intended to truly shine until Endless mode. Many of the screenshots being sent to me with very high coin counts are in endless mode on rent payment #30 or higher.

If a player can "break" endless mode with the help of essences, this is actually a good thing. You've already "beaten" the game if you're in endless mode, so anything after that point is just a bonus. On that note, essences that can carry a player to endless mode as early as rent payment #4 was definitely not my intention when adding essences to the game.

Lastly, these changes are obviously not perfect, and I'm still keeping a close eye on essences to keep tweaking their power level if need be.

Please let me know your thoughts either in the comments or on the official discord!
