Known Issues | Version 1.05

We’re taking a very short break from our work on Game Update 1 to bring you an updated list of Known Issues! Following 1.05’s release, we’ve seen a major decrease in crash rates, multiplayer-related issues and general bug reporting.

If you encounter a glitch and want to report it, make sure to check out the list below first - we might already be working on a solution.

Known Issues | Version 1.05

VISUAL
  • When pumping the rod, it can artificially vibrate. This effect will be removed in our next update for a more realistic experience.
  • Water Buoys no longer float in the water, instead sinking to the water bed.

Dev Team’s Notes: Bad Buoys. We float together, we sink together.

  • The Spanish Companionship Dollar and the Norwegian Friendship Dollar are using incorrect images in the Handbook.
  • The waterwheel on the wheelhouse at the Watermill location spins in the wrong way. It also has a post intersecting the moving wheel geometry.

Dev Team’s Notes: Big shoutout to our community member on Discord who reported this to us early on! Your help spotting and sharing these issues with us is dearly appreciated.

  • When driving a vehicle at speed, the vehicle may appear to flicker momentarily.
  • The water caustic effects in the Reserve Population and Latest Catch menus disappear on the fish after entering and exiting the Handbook for the first time.
  • Water can still visually clip through the bottom of boats. However, this does not impact handling.
  • When viewed from specific angles (mainly from an elevated position), water may show some inaccurate reflections.
  • Float movement currently doesn’t match wave movement as accurately as desired.
  • The water’s appearance can sometimes differ from its actual physical movement.
  • Changes to some graphics and video settings during gameplay may not apply.

Dev Team’s Notes: Restarting the game will make sure all your settings are correctly applied.

  • When watching a watch tower sequence, you may see a secondary and unintentional camera fade at the end.
  • On rare occasions, some objects may appear to float, clip, or not properly align with the ground as you explore the open world.
  • On rare occasions, some distant parts of the terrain may not render as expected.
  • Specific AMD graphics cards may experience corrupted clouds.
UI
  • It’s currently not possible to select the third rod from the Quick Menu when using a gamepad.
  • “Hold to Interact” prompts are currently inconsistent in their duration. They should all be the same length.
  • Players attempting to boot the game with below minimum spec hardware or software sometimes receive an inaccurate warning message or no message at all.

Dev Team’s Notes: Please make sure to check our minimum and recommended specs before getting the game. A large portion of crash reports we’re currently receiving in the community relates to players attempting to launch the game on unsupported CPUs/GPUs. Of course, we’ll always try to further improve our optimization of the game where we can, but fixes for unsupported hardware cannot take priority over improvements for players meeting requirements.

  • Map icons don’t perfectly move in sync when panning over the reserve map.
  • The handbook displays a limited amount of compatible baits and lures for each fish species, instead of showing the primary ones.
  • When unsupported characters are used in players’ names, they appear blank in-game (on the map and during gameplay).
  • Mission waypoints may not always reappear if the game was closed in the middle of a mission.
  • The “Golden Tour” mission may be re-tracked after you’ve fast-traveled or re-entered the reserve.
PROGRESSION
  • Two of the waterbody discoveries in Silver Strand Meadows are not unlocking as they should on the map.
  • The reward for reaching 1000 Reserve Reputation is not unlocking (only possible to reach 990).
  • Optional tutorial missions are all visible at the start of the game. They should instead only appear when progress towards them is made.
GAMEPLAY
  • Rods can sometimes appear straighter than they should be under high tension levels.
  • The default fishing position on boats is incorrect.
CUSTOMIZATION
  • During customization, the character’s hair appears black or white when wearing a hat.
MULTIPLAYER
  • In multiplayer, other players’ avatars may occasionally be missing an item of clothing or two.
  • In multiplayer, when other players fast travel, their avatar might not despawn immediately from their previous location as intended.

Dev Team’s Notes: We’re hard at work on bringing a solution to these overly-attached friends in Game Update 1.
AUDIO
  • On rare occasions, the vehicle you’re in (boat or 4x4) may lose audio.

Dev Team’s Notes: We have a fix for this issue scheduled for Game Update 1. In the meantime, know that exiting and re-entering the vehicle typically resolves the issue.

Hotfix 1.03 is Live!

Hotfix 1.03 is live! This patch packs a ton of improvements, including new water refinements, highly requested quality-of-life changes and fixes for some of the most frequently encountered technical issues.

Here’s the detailed list of changes:
VISUAL
• Improved screen space reflections to reduce distant noise and artifacts on the water surface.

Dev Team’s Notes: Hotfix 1.02’s water improvements introduced a noisy effect due to the reflections’ higher resolution. In 1.03, our focus was on making smaller adjustments to remove those unwanted artifacts.
  • Improved the float’s reflections in the water.
  • Adjusted a number of animations causing hands to not properly align with the rod under high tension scenarios.
  • Fixed an issue that caused certain skin shaders to disappear when another player would ghost to avoid an obstruction or griefing behavior.

Dev Team’s Notes: The Ghost of Angling Present has decided to put their skin back on - their efforts to avoid traumatizing Golden Ridge’s visitors are appreciated!
CUSTOMIZATION
• Three new hair colors have been added to the customization options.
STABILITY & PERFORMANCE
• Fixed a broad selection of high frequency stability issues and crashes.
  • Fixed a crash caused by pressing Escape in the Apex Friend text box.
  • Fixed a crash caused by selecting the sell page in the shop after moving all rods to storage.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause crashes or get players stuck under the map when entering a vehicle as it spawned.

Dev Team’s Notes: no longer 2fast4u…
  • Particles have been further optimized to improve performance.
UI
• The option to turn multiplayer off is now saved between game sessions.
  • Recommended gear for the optional tutorials now appears as intended in the Game Guide.
  • The names of points of interest, trailheads and outposts have been added to the map.
  • Used up baits no longer appear equipped on the rod in the Rod Assembler.
  • Baits are no longer duplicated in the Quick Menu.
  • Solved an issue that would prevent players from accessing the Quick Menu under specific circumstances.
  • Fixed a number of issues that would cause items to get stuck in the backpack or in storage.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause duplicate tutorial messages to remain stuck on screen.
  • Fixed some instances of tutorial prompts not appearing or being added to the Game Guide at the wrong time.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause text to overlap other menu elements in specific languages.
  • Fixed the icon indicating the hotsprings on the map.
GAMEPLAY
• The line is now properly taut from the last eyelet to the reel when a fish is pulling away.
  • Adjusted the spawn rate for Golden Trouts across Golden Ridge Reserve.
  • Adjusted Lake Trouts’ fighting behavior.
  • Updates the signs around lakes to display the correct names.
  • Fishing under bridges is now possible.

Dev Team’s Notes: Some could say this issue is now… water under the bridge! Get it? Hey, come back!
  • Improved the detection zone for the discovery of waterbodies.
  • Updated the spawn locations for Golden Trouts and Lake Trouts.
  • Updated the spawn rate for gold and diamond fishes.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause floats and lures to sink in specific lakes.
PROGRESSION
• Fixed an issue that would prevent players from completing the Diamond Peak’s Photo Challenge 3 mission.
MISCELLANEOUS
• Updated our Community Managers’ firmware so they don’t see questions related to the console’s release date till we’re ready to communicate on it.

Dev Team’s Notes: Rest assured that The Angler’s console version is well in the works. Repeatedly asking when it’ll be out won’t make it come any faster. Worse, it slows down our efforts to collect your feedback and suggestions. We promise we’ll let you know when we’re ready to share more.

We’ve got one more hotfix in the pipes before we start focusing on our first game update. It’ll be lighter in changes but will bring the last remaining improvements needed to make The Angler a smooth experience for all our players.

ICYMI, if you encounter a bug or wanna make a suggestion, make sure to drop it on our Discord server! We have dedicated forums there for both.

Hotfix 1.02 is Live!

Hotfix 1.02 is live! This patch focuses on bringing some highly requested enhancements to the water’s visuals, improving the game’s stability and fixing frequently encountered issues.

Here’s the detailed list of changes:
VISUAL
• Increased the reflections’ fidelity on the water surface.
  • Improved the water’s reaction to wind.
  • Improved the water’s animations to appear more coherent.
  • Improved the water transition between rivers and lakes to appear more natural.

Dev Team’s Notes: Player feedback since launch has been clear in regards to the water’s appearance in The Angler. While not everybody in the community agreed on the details, most felt like the water’s visuals could use some improvements. The changes listed above are a start, and we’re planning to keep on improving the way water looks in future updates.

  • Fixed an issue that would cause the water to not properly blend with the shore.
  • Fixed specific fish animations so they play back as intended (including animations at a distance).
  • The float’s movements now react more accurately to the water’s movements.
  • Removed the camera sway accidentally introduced in Hotfix 1.01.
  • Resolved the water’s visual corruption found on a number of AMD graphics cards.
  • Resolved an issue that would let players sell the clothes they are currently wearing.

Dev Team’s Notes: To make sure none of our anglers catch a cold, we’ve brought a fix to this issue. It’s been fun! ;)

  • Changed the default resolution scaling from 80% to 100%.

Dev Team’s Notes: This change may impact your performance. Please adjust the scaling down if required for your system’s specs.

  • Night’s duration has been reduced by half, reducing the time spent in darker conditions.

Dev Team’s Notes: We’ve heard a lot of feedback on night duration. We wanted to make sure we quickly tackled how long night felt to most, while we continue to work on providing players with more options to fish under the moonlight.

Some extra info about the day/night cycle in The Angler since so many players asked us:
  • 24h hours in-game is equivalent to 4h IRL.
  • Night used to be 1h IRL, but has been reduced to 30min with this update.
STABILITY
• Fixed a number of issues hindering players’ experience in Golden Ridge Reserve.

Dev Team’s Notes: With Hotfix 1.02, we’ve tackled several crashes and launch issues players have reported to us. We’ll continue to closely monitor stability issues.
UI
• Fixed an issue that would cause dialogue pop-ups to remain stuck on screen.
  • Adjusted metric and imperial measurements to a single decimal place.
  • Resolved an issue where players would find themselves unable to select a rod from the quick menu if the first and second slots in rod assembly were unused.
GAMEPLAY
• Level-based achievements now unlock when players reach the correct level.
  • Reeling speed animations while baiting now adjust accordingly to the players’ speed selection.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the Strike input to occasionally be unresponsive.
AUDIO
• Improved sound balance in multiplayer for other players relative to their proximity.
MULTIPLAYER
• Changed the default number of players populating servers from 12 to 10 (maximum server capacity remains 12 players).

Dev Note’s Team: We’ve heard players’ feedback about their difficulties playing with friends loud and clear. While we work on a long-term solution to this issue, we’ve implemented a simple change to how servers are populated that will allow angling duos to more easily and quickly play together. Parties of 3 or more might still encounter issues joining the same server for now, but we’re aiming to bring them a solution swiftly.

Our work continues! We’re already hard at work on bringing further improvements to the game and fixing the remaining issues currently listed in our Known Issues list. In the meantime, if you encounter a bug or would like to share feedback with us, make sure to head to our Discord server where we have dedicated channels for both!

ICYMI, if you encounter a bug, make sure to report it on Discord or on the support page on our website.
