Mictlan is set in Mesoamerica, during the 16th century, in the early days of the expedition of Cortes. Therefore, our academic team and our very talented conceptual artists have tried to reconstruct with chronicles, studies and archaeological traces the history of the time, including the first members of Hernan Cortes' company.
The soldiers of the 16th century were equipped with the latest tools and weapons, with the introduction of firearms, therefore battle strategies were gradually changing. Still, other weapons also proved to be very useful, the best example being the sword, spear, halberd and crossbow.
According to Lopez de Gomara's chronicle, the Spaniards were mostly armed with swords and daggers, in accordance with the data collected by Sahagún and Bernal Díaz del Castillo's own account.
As for their clothing, it varied according to their socioeconomic condition, as some were able to afford iron breastplates, while others would be left with simpler protections.
