Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale News

You can literally be part of Mictlan

Do you want to be immortalized in a video game?

Do you want to be part of Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale, literally?

You have the chance to do so by choosing from the three options that we're offering to our fans! We're transforming you in a NPC character in our game!

If you visit our Patron, you can choose from:
 • Basic character
 • Basic character with dialogues
 • Semi-main character

With the last option, you'll actually have the chance to be an important character in the story of Mictlan, interacting with the protagonist, with your own animations and cinematics, personalized dialogues in Nahuatl or Spanish.

You can even choose what kind of relationship you want your character to have with the protagonist:

Would you like to be his warrior mentor? Or maybe his spirit guide in the underworld? Or a member of the Aztec nobility? A priest helping in a mystical ritual?

Remember: once we launch the Kickstarter campaign, these prices will be higher and there won't be the chance to make installment payments anymore.

Huehuecoyotl #2

Its howls have been deaf for centuries, its songs and music have been nothing more than just empty echoes, desperate to be heard once more.

In Mictlan you will be able to hear the nocturnal howls of Huehuecoyotl, the god of the arts, music and dance. (We showed you the concept art of this character in this post!)

Its name is derived from Nahuatl and means "Old Coyote", as it is represented as a virile man with the face of a coyote. A warrior and sower of discord among men, Huehuecoyotl was also described as a malsin (that is, a gossiper).

Huehuecoyotl is considered a god of good luck, based on the fact that he is the one who represents the limit between good and evil. He balances the old and the new, the mundane and the spiritual, the youth and the old, the male and the female, since he has the ability to change gender. It is also characterized by lust and carnal desire, giving way to the erotic dimension of the ancient Mexicas.

Huehuetéotl #2

The figure and insignia of Huehuetéotl-Xiuhtecuhtli, the ancient Mesoamerican god of fire and time (xiuhitl in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, meant both 'turquoise' and 'year'), appeared long before the Mexica integrated it into their pantheon as a representation of the first cosmic force that sustains and gives birth to the other gods.

Huehuetéotl (we showed the first concept art pieces here) is represented as an old man carrying a huge brazier. One of his emblems was the cross, which placed him at the center of the four directions of the universe.

Every 52 years, in the izcalli (home) month, the New Fire ritual was celebrated, making an effigy of him with a turquoise mask, while the fire in his temple was renewed to distribute it in each home of Tenochtitlan: it was a symbol of the cyclical death and resurrection of life. It was by far the most important event in the religious calendar: if the ceremony failed, then the Aztec civilization would end.

This is just a #WIP, a preview of the creative work we do to bring Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale to life, making images as detailed as possible to be able to convey the powerful symbolism behind each and every character.

Huitzilopochtli #2

Greetings, dear Mictlan fans!

Today we present to you the work in progress of Huitzilopochtli, one of the most important Mexica gods, the god of willpower. (We already talked about this character here!)

We are creating various designs with a fantasy theme, based on our imagination, representing the god with a dark body, a golden eagle helmet, a shiny mirror of gold dangling on his chest, orned with white feathers.
Can you think of the powers this character would have?

What would you like to see?
Your comments are immensely important to us, as well as your support in launching our Kickstarter campaign, which requires a minimum of 20K backers.

Pochteca

This is a sample of the modeling work of a merchant or Pochteca, who were the main traders, importers and exporters of goods in the Aztec Empire.

Although the term Pochteca is used to refer to any merchant, for the ancient Pochtecas this profession was divided into four classifications:

The Tlachiuhqui: They were producers who manufactured everything they sold. This work was carried out across the entire Aztec territory.

The Tlanamacac: They were dedicated to buying and selling.

The Tlanecuilos: They were retailers, and those who obtained the most profits from commerce.

The Oztomecatl: They were importers, who usually traveled and carried out important expeditions to the corners of the empire.

The Pochtecas will be the vendors that will sell you weapons, accessories and medicinal plants, and they will help you create your own items.
