Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale News

Can you believe who's joining our game?
Dear all, today we are very excited to share with you a big news!
We can finally unveil our partnership with Horacio García Rojas, as he's going to be a main character in our game!

Horacio is a talented, handsome actor known for his roles in series like Diablero and Narcos: México, as well as for his outstanding performance as the Tlamemeh Painalli, in the 2016 Alan Jonsson Gavica film La Carga.

His role as one of the first leading actor with dark skin in a Neflix original series has been crucial to break stereotypes commonly relegating actors with darker skin to roles as villains. Horacio's work makes viewers appreciate both the cultural richness that exists in Mexico City and in the country.

Proudly Mexican, proudly Mestizo, Horacio García Rojas uphold the good name of México and of its culture and traditions, taking them to the big screen as an actor.

Now he will also lend his talents to our videogame and that's why we feel extremely honored, proud and grateful counting on our collaboration in Mictlan.

It's also worth mentioning that Horacio is a big fan of comic books and geek culture, he's also part of the gaming community!
We look forward to great things to come from our partnership!
Cipactli

The world and underworld of Mictlan will be populated by the most amazing creatures waiting to make your acquaintance. While some of them are just downright cute (have you seen our Axolotl?), others may be a little, well, a whole lot scarier!

Today we are excited to present to you Cipactli: a voracious, colossal, primeval sea monster, part fish, part crocodile, with gaping mouths at all her joints.

The embodiment of chaos existing before the creation.

This monstrous being was conceived as female, and it was so insatiable that, one day, the gods Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca set out to destroy her, descending from the heavens to ban this horrible creature from roaming the world. The two of them, assuming the form of serpents, coiling themselves about Cipactli as she lay on the surface, ripped her body apart.

The upper part of her body ascended to become the sky, while its other half fell to become the earth. From the hair of the monster, the gods created trees, from her eyes springs and caves, from her mouth rivers and lakes, from her nose valleys, from her shoulders volcanos and mountains.

Nevertheless, it is said that otherworldly sounds of Cipactli's crying could still be heard, demanding human blood, wishing to devour human hearts as repayment for her sacrifice.

We would like to remind you that we are getting closer to our Kickstarter goal, but we still need more subscribers! For those who have not registered, it is very important that you do so, it only takes a few minutes. It is a necessary step to be able to launch our campaign and raise the necessary funds to develop Mictlan!

Thank you very much for all your support!

Meet the Axolotl

The world of Mictlan will be populated by the most amazing, dangerous, ancient creatures... and also the cutest ones!

Meet the Axolotl, the funny, adorable little guy who will accompany you both across the wide, wondrous world and the perilous underworld of Mictlan. You'll have the chance to mount the Axolotl as you dive through the depths of the ocean.

We have finalized the animations for our lovely walking fish thanks to the help of a very special member of our team: Axel, the pet Axolotl we keep in our studio! He's almost two years old and we carefully studied its movements to recreate a more fluid and realistic animation of the Axolotl in our game! Take a look here, and here.

Mictlan’s semi-open world

We are very excited to share with you the layout of the game map we’ve been working on so far!

Here are some WIP images from Mictlan’s semi-open world, currently measuring 30 square KM!
We plan to expand the game map to the North of the country and various areas of Central America, such as Tikal in Guatemala and El Mirador, which is home to the largest pyramid in the world.
You’ll be free to roam from southern Mexico and Guatemala to the northern deserts of Mexico.

Of course there will be plenty to explore in these vast lands and, in future expansion packs, we plan to represent different indigenous groups from the North of Mexico, such as Seri and Yaqui people.
