The terrible Mictecs

Have you checked our post about the terrible Mictecs?

In our designs for the Mictecs, we wanted to highlight their supernatural (hostile) features. They are the spawn of the god Mictlantecuhtli, his people and warriors, a manifestation of the power of death, so their look must honor this divinity.

As you can see, the appearance of the Mictecs gets more and more intimidating as they become more powerful, this will be accompanied by new and more challenging combat mechanics.

Two great temples

Today we want to show you some sketches from the megalithic temple of Malinalco, how it could have looked in its prime.
Malinalco was an ideological and spiritual center for the Mexica Empire; it was the place where the sister of Huitzilopochtli, Malinalochitl, had settled when abandoned by his brother during a long pilgrimage of the Aztec people to the Valley of Mexico. And in this specific place, they prepared and commanded the eagle and jaguar warriors, the elite militia from the Mexica army.

We also want to share with you the excellent work from our friend and collaborator Mauricio Pampin, who, on the basis of the postclassic aesthetic, built from zero a great temple dedicated to Mictlantecuhtli.
We know that the sanctuaries of Tenochtitlan played an important role, not only in the sacred area. In the “Calpulli” slums, sacred houses were built for the gods, where they held rituals to maintain the balance of the world.

Kiti Shraan

In the depths of the pacific lurks a mighty beast, so big that it is responsible for the hurricanes that hit the coasts, destroying all that’s in its way.

This creature is Kiti Shraan, whose name means "brave thing".

You have to be the bravest warrior to venture the waters where many have gone and never returned.

Such an awesome beast, our concept artists really killed it with this representation!

The Mictecas

Every God has its servants.

Xochiquetzal had an entourage of minions that liven up his celestial court;

Tlaloc had his loyal Tlaloques who could send down to the earth different kinds of rain, and Mictlantecuhtli… had the Mictecas.

The Mictecas were the first inhabitants of Mictlan, the most loyal lieutenants of the lord of the dead. They were the agents of the underworld, in charge of preventing anyone from leaving the world of Mictlan. Mictecas devoured the dead on their way to the nine regions of Mictlan, they were also the ones who would go to battle when their god commanded them.
