The Wetlands

Greetings to our Mictlan's community!

Today we want to show you one of the biomes that will be a part of our open world: the wetlands.

Mesoamerica is a region abundant in wetlands such as swamps, marshlands and estuarios. These territories with a rich biodiversity were widely exploited since the arrival of the first nomadic human populations to the continent, with activities like fishing, hunting and gathering of both plants and shellfish.

The important role this ecosystem played in the development of prehispanic culture inspired us to recreate this kind of location so that the players may experience the beauty and the uniqueness of this environment.

These screenshots are real-time renders from our open world, without RTX Ray Tracing. This is what the scenarios will look like in old computer systems and consoles such as the PS4.

In a couple of months, we will present a technical demo with our RTX Ray Tracing environments to all of you who want to play Mictlan on a high-end gaming machine or on the latest generation consoles such as the Playstation 5.

Xochipilli

Xochipilli, the "flower prince" in Nahuatl, is the God of dance, music, arts, drunkenness, carnal love and, in his Macuilxochitl (5 flower) form, the patron of the game patolli.

Everyone in ancient Mexico had a God who protected and guided them, in exchange for sacrificial offerings. Xochipilli, in particular, is a God closely tied to sexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality.

Sahag煤n describes him with a floral headdress, which reflects his role as patron of music and songs, his body lightly painted in red, his figure adorned with jade, turquoise and mother-of-pearl.

His statue, which was unearthed on the side of the volcano Popocat茅petl near Tlalmanalco, is decorated with carvings of different type of flowers, such as the ololiuhqui and the tobacco flower, as well as teonan谩catl, also known as the Flesh of the Gods, which is a psychotropic mushroom usually eaten during the festivities and sacrifice, inducing an altered state of consciousness in their users.

As a matter of fact, his trance-like face carved in the statue has been interpreted as being in a state of spiritual ecstasy.
Xochipilli is certainly another mystical and important figure joining our pantheon of Gods you'll be seeing in Mictlan (have you checked out Tezcatlipoca: God of the Night Sky?)

Would you rather have him as an ally or an enemy?

Spanish soldiers: a concept art

Today we're showing you the concept art of what Spanish conquistadores will look like in Mictlan.

As you can see from the picture by our talented artist Josue Diaz, Spanish soldiers wore heavy and gleaming armor, with robes under a huge, metal breastplate.

As their armors deteriorated in time, during the period of the Conquest, they started replacing some parts with different elements from the area, more suitable to the local atmospheric and natural conditions, and also more suitable for battles and survival in the New World. The same happened with their weapons, as Spanish soldiers in many cases replaced the ones they brought from their country with the typical weapons used by Mexica warriors.
Did you know that, in one of Mictlan's campaigns, you'll be able to play as a Spanish general during the first years of the Conquest?
What do you think? Let us hear your voice in the comments!

Sneak 'N Peek

Take a look at some of the scenarios we're bringing to life in the open-world of Mictlan.

We've achieved so much in less than 6 months, building environments, creating dozens of characters, shaping the reality of our game. Although we still have 2 to 3 years of development ahead, our development and 3D modeling team never sleeps and keeps working on this project with all of their passion and skills.
