IndieCade 2020 Nomination

*high pitch scream*

Here we are again, folks! Labyrinth City is among the nominees of IndieCade 2020, alongside 39 other titles, some stunning, some funny, some serious, but all made with passion and talent! IndieCade Anywhere and Everywhere is the 9-day online version of their festival centered around indie games and programming, held from October 16th to 24th. There will be a ton of exhibitions, conferences, discussions, workshops and, of course, gameplay demos!

Here is how you can attend the festival or head over to their Twitch, Twitter, Instagram or Facebook to stay updated!

What is Labyrinth City?

We are pouring our hearts and souls in the making of Labyrinth City, a game that we have a real attachment to since Noam, digital producer of Darjeeling, chanced upon a certain book by IC4DESIGN while browsing the alleys of a Parisian bookshop with his children. A book that should not have been picked up by the family, as Noam’s significant other owns a bookshop of her own. A book called Pierre The Maze Detective. If that is not fate speaking, what is? After that little trip, Noam knew immediately that he would make a game from this, and here we are!

So, how does one turn a book into a game? Well, in that case, the first step was to contact IC4DESIGN, the original creator of Pierre The Maze Detective, and enquire whether they would be interested in seeing their beloved creation take life in a game that would allow players of all ages to wander through the intricate and detailed world they designed as Pierre. Upon receiving the request, the Hiroshima-based design studio was thrilled and eager to cooperate to make the game unique in every possible way, to the point that not only did they rework Pierre’s face for the benefit of the game! In that respect, the game is a real tribute to a work of art that well deserves its international reputation.

Next order of business was to animate everything. The studio has painstakingly given life to many, many, MANY characters and objects in the game, with which players can interact, to lend a sense of motion to each scene and have them enjoy exploring and talking to the different characters. You will be amazed at how much animation and narration has gone into the game. You will get caught up in trying to reach that chest hidden somewhere in the winding platforms of the forest level or in finding every star around the docks. You will soon find that running after Mr X is simply an excuse to visit marvelous scenes and places.

To make sure that each visit to Opera City is as interesting as the first, our studio has implemented a few minigames (that might or might not remind you of your childhood) here and there within the incredible visuals of Labyrinth City (but ssssh, it’s a secret still).

As we are fond of the game and the universe created by IC4DESIGN, we want to make sure players enjoy the experience and come back to the game in order to explore every nook and cranny in each level, so replay value was something that was considered from the beginning. After all, the original book is a detective book, and what does a detective do if not look for things and people? As such, not only will you be able to search for a TON of hidden objects and missions.

Last, but certainly not least, the game will benefit from an original soundtrack that will give it a life of its own and will make the overall experience a delight for your visual and auditory appendages!

We hope you enjoyed reading this little bit of information about the game, head over to our social media platforms to keep in touch with any news related to the game!
