Age of Darkness: Final Stand - Day 1 Hotfix



Dear Protectors of the Light,

Firstly, it’s been inspiring to see so many of you joining us for the launch of Age of Darkness: Final Stand and taking up arms against the Nightmares!

Our team has been overwhelmed by all your wonderful reactions to our Early Access launch. We’ve also been busy keeping up with the bugs you’ve reported to us and finding fixes for them as soon as we can.

We’ve put together a Day 1 patch update for the game, which is now live! This patch addresses a few issues we’ve seen reported already by our community, on the Steam forums and on our Discord server.

We greatly appreciate everyone who has taken the time to let us know about these bugs and crashes you’ve encountered. While it’s not listed in the patch notes, we’ve been able to fix several crash issues too, thanks to all your reports!

If you come across any bugs or crashes, please report them to us either through the Steam forums, our Discord server in the ‘bug-reporting’ channel or using the in-game bug reporting tool.

Bugs Fixed

-All Storehouses placed around the Keep will no longer increase the Keep’s Gold payout.
-Archers and Arbalests trying to play animations while garrisoned will no longer cause a rare crash.
-You can now double click a tower to select all towers containing the same unit type, regardless of the proximity of other units to the tower.
-Archers garrisoned in Towers will no longer stop gate doors being shut.
-Archers inside the Tower and Braced Tower will now correctly target Nightmares within range.

A quick note on the Storehouses being placed around the keep fix. This was a bug and exploit that went against the balance of the game’s design, hence why it needed to be removed. We hope you enjoyed using it while you could ;)

We’ll be continuing to work on fixes to any bugs and crashes you report to us. Thanks again for taking the time to let us know, it means we can get these patches out much quicker to our awesome community!

Age of Darkness: Final Stand - Early Access Roadmap

Age of Darkness: Final Stand is a dark fantasy survival RTS where you must illuminate, build and defend humanity’s last bastion against hordes of Nightmares. Set in the remnants of a kingdom consumed by a deadly fog, you decide. Will you hide in the light? Or take back your world.

Features

70,000 swarming AI enemies on screen
Brace yourself against huge tidal waves of Nightmares. Leveraging an internally developed technology called ‘SwarmTech’ allows the game to render over 70,000 enemy units on the screen at one time. These enemy legions claw their way up through seething fissures in the earth to reinforce ‘The Veil’.



Living Death Fog
Light up a rich, complex, procedurally generated map to claim territory back from ‘The Veil’. A dynamic living death fog that conceals enemies and drains life from your troops. Holding the line against this terror is not for the faint of heart.

Randomised Malices & Blessings
Borrowing from the the roguelite genre, Malices are random afflictions placed on the player during every Death Night, unraveling the best made plans. Conversely, if a Death Night is survived, you may decide between three randomly selected Blessings, enriching the experience and giving your army a much needed edge.

Unique Heroes to light up the dark
Lead the charge against the horrors of the night with powerful and unique Heroes. Using special abilities gained from leveling up, these Heroes can be key to turning the tide of a desperate battle. But beware, the Nightmares have Elite roaming champions of their own that drop precious resources when killed, posing an extreme and ever-present threat to your expansion.

You will fail at new RTS game Age of Darkness; the only question is when

My first session with a new strategy game is always an exercise in trial and error. Exploring this mechanic, pushing these boundaries, feeling out the edges of the world as I start a new journey towards mastery. Or at least proficiency. Age of Darkness: Final Stand, a new RTS game that's just hit Steam Early Access, bakes this phenomenon into its DNA with one simple certainty: you will die.


Maybe not right away, but you'll probably die during your first 'death night' - when darkness falls and the agents of the Void attack en masse - because you may have missed the importance of a coherent defence. You may die in your second game on the second death night because you underestimated just what a coherent defence looks like when faced with a larger wave of enemies. In game three, you may die on the first death night again because you're an idiot. We may or may not be talking about me, here.


You are the castellan of humanity's last hope - a lone, decrepit keep, home to some villagers and a desperate group of defenders led by a hero (the game lists three options, but the Early Access build only lets you choose one). Together, you have to try and hold back the night for as long as you can. You've got to gather resources, build buildings, and recruit more soldiers to the cause.
