Game Update: 17 April 2023 - 11006657

Hey fight fans,

This update brings four exciting new fighters, a new venue, and some key changes to gameplay, AI, and fighter ratings. As we shared in our most recent roundtable on the Undisputed YouTube channel, the next few updates will focus on several key areas of community feedback. Before we get into the full details of the latest release, here are some details on a few areas we’re continuing to focus on over the next couple of updates.

Body Uppercut Spam

Players online are able to repeatedly use the body uppercut without much consequence, leading to unbalanced fights. We're currently testing two solutions internally – a change to the body uppercut targeting, and a change to body blocking – that we hope to ship in the next game update.

Online Stability

We're continuing to work to improve online stability and want to ensure we get it right because we know how frustrating it can be to play with desync or to be disconnected from a fight. Improving this is a big task which requires a lot of work and testing, and our investigations point to any improvement being a few updates away. To that end, we're also adding additional resources to our online team as well as engaging third-party experts to help us get to the best long-term solution for online play.

Cheating

We know that running into cheaters online is frustrating, and we want to make sure you know that cheaters will never be welcome in Undisputed. We’re working hard to address the issue and we have a plan in place, but it's taking longer than we'd like. We'll implement a third-party anti-cheat to ensure cheaters are properly routed out from online play. This unfortunately requires us to rework some of our backend systems before we can implement the anti-cheat, which means the solution is still multiple updates away.

Below are the patch notes for the update shipped on 17 April 2023 - 11006657.

New Fighters

- Vasilii Lomachenko added to the game with his own unique movement, swift footwork, and signature directional punches. Lomachenko joins the Featherweight and Lightweight divisions. Check out his roster profile.

- Amir Khan added to the game. Khan joins the Lightweight, Welterweight, and Middleweight divisions. Check out his roster profile.

- Floyd Patterson added to the game and introduces the peek-a-boo style to Undisputed. Patterson joins the Heavyweight division. Check out his roster profile.

- Daniel Jacobs added to the game. Jacobs joins the Middleweight division. Check out his roster profile.

Venues

- We have also added a brand new venue to the game. Welcome to Kiritsu Arena, a beautiful Japanese-inspired pentagonal-shaped venue. Kiritsu means discipline, so be sure to show off your ring control and boxing mastery when you step between the ropes.

Gameplay Changes

- We’ve changed the damage/health system from 6 individual damage zones into one overall head zone and one overall body zone. We hope this, alongside the below daze threshold change, encourages players to mix up their fight styles which should lead to a better quality of matches online.

- We changed the damage thresholds used to calculate daze chance. Fighters are now more likely to hit their opponent into dazed by mixing up punches and landing combinations, rather than focusing on the same punch repeatedly. This does not impact the chance of landing a ‘flash daze’.

- We've reduced the movement speed of fighters that are dazed, making it more achievable for players to be able to cut off the ring and secure a finish when an opponent is hurt.

- Added a warning to the in-fight UI that will show a player if they’re close to being dazed and removed the sectional body-part UI.

- The curve has been reduced across Overall Stamina / Stamina Regeneration, which means fighters with higher-rated stamina have a less steep advantage. The ultimate goal here is to make sure we’re seeing punch stats that are more in line with what you’d see in a real fight. This is a first step, and we’ll continue to iterate on this area of balance as we follow your feedback.

General updates

- The post-fight results screen will now also show both fighters' remaining health and stamina that they had at the time the fight ended. We hope this is helpful for players to understand and improve the way they’re fighting, but also to be able to give us more informed feedback around stamina and damage balancing.

AI update

- Overhauled our AI system. The new system should allow us to control and adjust more elements of the AI’s gameplay. With this update, players should see that the AI has improved ring movement, punch and stamina management, and weaving/dodging. Players can expect to see continued improvements including a more noticeable difference between fighter styles (like slugger vs outboxer) over time. There’s still lots of work to be done on the AI, so we’d love to hear your feedback and requests and we’ve set up a specific chat to focus on AI feedback in the Undisputed Discord server.

Game Patch: 15 March 2023 - 10766709

Hey fight fans,

This patch contains a range of balance changes including fighter updates, cuts and bruises, and more, as well as some bug fixes. Before we jump into the notes for this patch, we want to talk about some of the key areas players are most eager to see updated and that we’re focused on ensuring improve over the next few updates.

Online Stability and Cheaters

In our previous content update we spoke about our work in these areas, our determination to get them right, and that how that will take time. While this update contains a small fix that should slightly reduce the number of disconnections online, more work is ongoing in the background, and we continue to roll out new bans for anyone caught cheating in the meantime. We’ll continue to update you on our progress on these issues here and in our community channels.

Gameplay

We’ve also seen a lot of feedback around what happens inside the ring. Particularly around head and body health, stamina balancing, AI, and body uppercuts. Over the next few updates, you can expect to see changes made to the health system, adjusted targeting for body uppercuts so that they can’t be so easily abused, and AI improvements which will continue to be expanded on throughout the course of early access.

With stamina usage and other balancing, we have to strike a good balance for both online and offline play, which sometimes necessitates making balance adjustments only alongside other changes, such as improving the AI so that it’s more capable of reacting to and maintaining its stamina levels in a way that players can. That being said, this update does contain a small adjustment for stamina (see notes below), and you can expect to see further adjustments to stamina throughout the course of early access.

Now let’s jump into the notes for the patch shipped on 15 March 2023 – 10766709

Gameplay Changes

- Increased base flash knockout chance.

- Increased the chance of cuts or bruises occurring.

- Increased damage to cuts and bruises.

- Increased stamina usage for power punches.

- Increased damage dealt by hooks to the head.

- Increased damage dealt to block health.

Bug Fixes

- General improvements to how we handle online connections.

- Moved ‘Counter Punch Modifier’ from the Speed category to the Strength category.

- Fixed an issue causing the fight Select UI continuing to show and overlapping with other areas of the game.

- Fixed an issue that caused players to sometimes get stuck on the transition screen after being kicked from a custom lobby.

- Fixed an issue that meant one of Sergio Martinez’s traits wasn’t correctly displaying the trait description.

- Fixed multiple issues relating to taking a knee.

- …lots of other general bug fixes!

Update Hotfix: 28th of February 2023 - 10657970

Hey fight fans,

Below are the patch notes for the update hotfix shipped on 28 February 2023 - 10657970. This is focused on fixing some issues that players have noticed in today's build.

- Fixed an issue where players using Sergio Martinez were sometimes experiencing their game controls locking up mid-fight.

- Disabled stance switching and push in online play. These were mistakenly pushed live with today's build, and are not yet ready for online play as they're still a work in progress.

Game Update: 28 February 2023 - 10623308

Hey Fight Fans,

This is our first content update in line with our roadmap and includes 3 new fighters, new venues, and more. While this update has been in progress for some time and is a content-focused update, there are a few areas we know players are most concerned about which we'd like to address here.

Cheaters

This is one of the top issues in the game right now for online players. We know it's incredibly frustrating to run into cheaters in online matches, and with this update we're taking action against a number of players who have been hurting the online experience for everyone else. These bans are a first step toward a larger initiative to ensure fair play online. We're continuing to work toward improved cheat detection and will deploy additional updates over time.

In the meantime, please continue to use the report player functionality in the game, which is available in the menu at the end of a fight, and if you have a video, you can link a YouTube video in the report too. Cheating is never something that will be ok and your reports have been helpful to us in making this first wave of bans.

Online Stability

We've also been monitoring the online feedback you're giving us related to disconnections and surrenders that are happening, fight desync, and some matchmaking issues as well.

These are complicated issues that require time and testing, and while today's update doesn't address these things, work on these issues is ongoing and we're committed to getting them right because we recognise how important these issues are. We know it can be rough playing through these things, so we really appreciate you sticking by us and giving us so much great feedback to help improve the game.

Below are the patch notes for the update shipped on 28 February 2023 - 10623308.

New Boxers

- Robin Reid added to the game. Reid joins the Middleweight division. Check out his roster profile.

- Sergio Martinez added to the game. Martinez joins the Middleweight and Welterweight division. Check out his roster profile.

New Venues

- Added 'Technicolour Gym'. Hit the ring and look good doing it under the coloured neon lights from which the venue gets it's name.

- Added a nighttime version of the existing 'Coldwell Gym' venue, and a daytime version of the existing 'Empire Pro' venue.

Gameplay Changes

- We've updated inside fighting with a new push animation and improved responsiveness.

- Made further tweaks to judge preferences in an effort to produce fairer fight results.

General Changes

- The fighter's team can now be seen walking with the fighter during the ringwalk timelines.

- Introduced motion blur settings.

Bug Fixes

- Fixed a bug causing players to see their level as between 0 and 1 on the reward screen regardless of their actual level after a ranked match.

- Fixed an issue that caused the game to apply the wrong resolution when first launched.

- Fixed an issue causing fighter models to fail to load in the Fighter Select menu if a player returns to fighter select midway through a match.

- Fixed an issue where the in-game pause menu would remain faintly visible after a player had navigated to other menus.

Game Update: Undisputed Update 16 February 2023 - 10566251

Hey Fight Fans,

Below are the patch notes for the update shipped on 16 February 2023 - 10566251.

This update contains a small change (see below) that should improve the amount of desync some players are seeing online. We want to take this opportunity to reiterate that online matchmaking and stability are ongoing areas of focus for us, and getting online play to a place we're happy with it is going to take time, so we appreciate your patience.

Somewhat related to that, we've seen reports of players encountering cheaters when playing casual or ranked matches online. The best thing you can do if you run into someone obviously cheating is to use the report function at the end of the match - we monitor reports and will begin taking action against players who we know to be cheating while we work on longer-term solutions.

Gameplay Changes

- Reduced the overall impact that accuracy, punches thrown, counter punches, and defence has on how judges score a fight. This is in an effort to produce fairer scoring results. Some judges still value these things over punches landed, but less heavily than before.

- Made adjustments to punch tracking to make slipping and dodging more viable.

- Improved the way we handle Arm Fatigue online, which we hope will reduce some amount of desync players are experiencing.

- Sugar Ray Robinson: (Middleweight) Overall rating reduced from 92 to 91, with minor adjustments made across a range of stats.

- Sugar Ray Robinson: (Lightweight) Overall rating reduced from 92 to 91, with minor adjustments made across a range of stats.
