Sapphire Documents Issue 022

Hello Photographers! Fresh off the back of Steam Next Fest and the first time we have launched a demo for Sapphire Safari, we have had some great success! The feedback has been fantastic, and we have been focusing on building those extra mechanics, as requested by the people who played our demo!

The Sapphire Safari demo has been downloaded over 30,000 times! And our Discord community (join here: https://discord.com/invite/mzNPSRMrbv) ranks have swelled as well! I wanted to spend a few moments addressing the questions and responses given both in the Steam reviews and in forums/community channels.
Question: Why do the Human faces look like that?
Answer: The models themselves are really nice, our team has done a fantastic job with them! The issue people have been seeing is the lack of any real lipsync and detailed face shapes for the lipsync system we have already. There is no shortcut to making this nicer, it just takes a lot of care and time to do it right. Time we simply ran out of before Next Fest started. This is something we want to fix, it will be corrected as soon as we can! However, we do need to address other features and concerns first. Before the Steam Early Access version drops (version 025), we will be tweaking the current system to reduce the issues. A full fix will take a little longer to achieve.
Question: The creatures never touch or seem to never align correctly during sex, why does it look like this?
Answer: The animations in Sapphire Safari for sex are made using Bunets models. Every other creature in the game (humans included) have different sizes and dimensions, so what you’re seeing is the animations attempting to correct it but thinking the models are touching. We will be correcting this using Inverse Kinematics or IK for short. This is done by telling invisible joint locations where they are supposed to be touching during animations (so this hand, grabs this ankle) and then IK will try to correct the location of the joints so the meshes are not colliding incorrectly.

As you can see in this picture we have been focused on getting IK to both act as a repulse and drawing towards mesh, if things are clipping inside mesh (in this case fingers) it will actively push them out until they sit on top, and in the case of floating hands or joints it would pull them towards the mesh until they collide. It will allow us to confidently move forward with our animation pipeline without needing to drastically focus on size compatibility.
Question: Why are there no male creatures in the game? I want the game to have more straight content!
Answer: Mostly because it would take a lot of time to build those assets. Post Next Fest, we concluded that it would indeed be a big benefit to the game to include Male variants of each species. This will require a good chunk of time to complete, it would need new models (duh), new vocal work done, new masculine general poses, and likely other things as well. It would also have to come AFTER the IK work has been fully completed, as we want the Male counterparts to offer more silhouette variety to a species. So the Caiadaly Female is a small classification, the Male version will be a medium size. Consider it officially added to the upcoming feature set.
Question: Why do all the creatures look the same? Shouldn’t there be more variety in how different two Bunets are from each other?
Answer: Yeah, we could do a lot more to make the variations different. As of the next patch (v025) each creature will have an overhauled texture for their variants that add a lot more details to their fur and scales, with patterns and unique markings. Also, we now have a Breast size randomizer in the game options for players to tweak as they like. The options include Standard (breasts as they are designed for the species), Smaller, Medium, Big, and Random. Random is all shapes and sizes, for the most variety. The specific sizes just offer some small variants from their base design. Creatures like Caiadaly, who is flat chested, will not get the option to change her breast sizes.

These were the big questions that most players had during the demo launch, what surprised me the most was how much players enjoyed the game as a whole, since the average play time for the 30,000 people that did play was about 1 hour. Crazy.

In other news, the roadmap has been updated to reflect the new updated goals and features, I want to make it as clear as possible what our plans are so no one can get confused with the direction we are heading in!

Future content is broken up into Phases, with Phase One in current development right now. Each new Phase is a new environment to explore, with additional species and content to be added following the example set in the plains region.

There has also been an update to the system requirements panel to add additional clarification to Sapphire Safari’s needs. The big changes are the exposing of VRAM requirements and a recommendation for SSD storage.

We hope you all have enjoyed your time with the Sapphire Safari demo! The feedback has been excellent, we are eager to get more! See you on March 21st for the release of v025 and the long awaited Steam version!

Questions about Sapphire Safari? Check this!

Hello Photographers! ːsteamhappyː

We noticed that many users are having questions about some things in the game, so here it goes:

When is Sapphire Safari launching on Steam?
We are all set to launch the game on Steam on 21st March 2025. Make sure to Wishlist the game, join our Official Discord and follow us on Social Media so you can stay up to date.

I have no idea what I am supposed to do in the game, any advice?
A: If you are looking for content to tackle, please open your Guide Book (tab) and visit the collections tab for a list of Achievements you can aim to complete. Finishing all Achievements is how you see all the content available in the game.

How do I have sex with the creatures?
You simply need to build up your familiarity with a particular species by submitting photos to the Monpedia. The more you add, the higher the familiarity will become. The sex acts you can choose from need to be discovered on the island by photographing the Natives as they bang.

How do I take higher-scoring photographs?
Photos are scored by how visible the targets are. A clean focus and high visibility will help you score big. You should also time your photos for the right moment to take a shot! The "PP" icon will tell you the perfect moment to snap a photo for big points!

Is Kinky Fridays accepting game ideas/feedback?
Yes! We would love to receive your detailed review under our DEMO game page. If you would like to report a bug, feel free to join our Official Discord and open a Help Desk ticket.

Will reported bugs be resolved before the game is released?
Yes! Most of the reported bugs we are seeing from the community are fixed for the next build or the team is already currently working on it, so don't worry as we are working hard to get you the best experience when we launch.

Will the game be translated? Or will it have subtitles?
At this early stage, we are focused on releasing the game in English. Once everything is stable and we can get everything in the way we hope for players, we will certainly do our best to translate and/or add subtitles. Please note that the translation process is quite laborious and can take some time.

Start your Exploration

In Sapphire Safari you can choose between a male and female wildlife photographer, each with different personalities! The character you do not choose becomes your rival, helping you uncover the island's history, and of course... several hot and curious species! Get to know a little about each character available in our DEMO below.

Oscar is our male main character, he is an award-winning wildlife photographer looking for another accolade. This will be one more adventure for the record books.

Jamie is our female main character, she is young, eager, and ready to prove herself in this adventure. This is a chance of a lifetime she couldn't miss!

Professor Frida is an advisor and handler for the Second Team visiting the Sapphire Islands, she will be running the ship and helping plot the course for the duo of Oscar and Jamie.

Family: Leporids
Species name: Oryctolagus Cunticulus
Size: Small
Temperament: Docile

One of the most numerous species found in the plains. Bunets live in large communal burrows. These burrows can be found all over the plains and are interconnected by a series of underground tunnels. As with every species found here, Bunets have an incredibly high libido. They have proven to be one of the easiest species to handle.

As for the creatures themselves, they are much like their more ordinary rabbit like counterparts found in the outside world. They are timid, quick to flee and ever alert for predators. However, our presence on the island has elicited much curiosity from these Bunets. Though they avoid predatory species, they seem to be more than willing to approach humans and handle human-made objects. They are primarily active during the day and return to their burrows at dusk.

Family: Bovidae
Scientific name: Ovaries Orientalis
Size: Medium
Temperament: Docile

Gentle, wooly, and an avid grazer, Hoereno tend to group together in flocks. Throughout the day, they will choose spots with plenty of sunlight and green grass to chew on. They are much like domestic sheep in many ways. While they will avoid predators at all costs, they are one of the most tolerant species of humans.

They also appear to be fond of a style of dance that can only be likened to classical ballroom dancing, we are unsure how they came to create such elaborate celebrations without human contact, its to be assumed dance is an inherent behavior of the Hoereno.

Family: Microchiroptera
Scientific name: Pteropoondidae
Size: Small
Temperament: Docile

One of the few winged species found on the island, Lecho have a wide range of territory they travel across. Their diet primarily consists of small insects and fruit. During the day, they will remain inside caves and other dark places. They first emerge from their hiding places during dusk and forage for food right up until dawn.

Strangely enough, these bats are not capable of sustained flight, but prefer using their wings to glide from location to location. As a primarily nocturnal species, they have poor eyesight and rely on echolocation to find their way around.

Family: Canidae
Species name: Vulvapes Vulvapes
Size: Medium
Temperament: Predatory

The most common predator of the plains. The Furloin Fox is not only quiet, it is incredibly cunning. Out of the many species we've encountered so far, this one is undoubtedly one of the smartest. It seems to treat predation like it is a game, often letting its prey think it's escaped before pouncing on it. It seems to particularly enjoy hunting the same individuals multiple times, slowly improving its hunting technique with each chase. Like most species within the plains, the Furloin is typically active during the day.

The Furloin seems to be delighted to have new, intelligent prey wandering around the island. This could be due to humans employing strategies and technology to evade capture, thus making hunting more thrilling.

Sapphire Documents Issue 021

Hello Photographers! In today’s issue, we will be talking about a few new mechanics we will be dropping alongside our upcoming Demo. That is right, a demo. Finally. After three years of development, we are ready to let everyone experience Sapphire Safari for themselves! The date we will be launching the demo is…

February 24th

Oh yeah! It is worth mentioning here that this demo will be exclusive to Steam for the first few weeks as it will be premiering during the February Steam Nextfest, a unique event all about demos for upcoming games! You can expect to play the introduction of Sapphire Safari and have a small space to explore, the demo is also limited to four of the nine plains species, along with only a handful of the Monsutra (unlockable sex positions) to unlock. But any progress made in the demo will carry over 100% to the full game.

Now let's move on to the new new!
Photo Stacking
In order to combat player Monpedia being filled with very similar photos from quickly snapping 3 or 4 really nice photos that apply to several categories we have created a system called “Photo Stack”. Think of this as a balance change to help with the ease of scoring better photos.

How it works is that if you take several photos at once in the same location, the game will “bundle” those photos together in a stack. When you go to submit your photos, you’ll be limited to choosing one of those photos inside a stack. The concept is to give players a chance to snap lots of photos, but choose only one to submit.

If you move around after taking several photos it will automatically stack those photos together so you won’t accidentally have several different photo targets in one stack. Not to say that doesn’t happen, we will be tweaking this as we go.

When you’re inside the submission window you’ll see the stacks lined up and ordered from highest scoring to lowest. You can press the Q button to shuffle through the available photos and be able to choose what target and what photo you want to submit.

Our hope here is to use this for future upgrades the camera will see, including shooting modes like burst shots and such.
Monsutra Animations
We have doubled the number of Sex animations in Sapphire Safari, a lot of the new content adds more Predator animations, Oral animations, Threesomes, and Female on Female content.
Collections Tab
Now you’ll be able to view the Collections Tab inside the Guide Book. Here will be the collection of Expedition Logs you’ve found and a way to replay them. Along with a space for the upcoming Achievements feature space.

The Achievements will be designed to work inside and outside the game with storefront-based achievement tools and API’s. So Steam and GOG players will have their achievements on their platforms, but JAST, Itch, and Subscriber releases will have the same tracking available in the game. Eventually, we want to use the Achievements to unlock game content, but not right now.

Here is a quick look at the icons we have for the related species Achievements.
Jamie Futa
Yes, you want that girl dong. So here you are. It will be added to the game very soon, it will be accessible via the options menu in game and come in two flavors, while also being reflective on her costume as well.
Main Menu Overhaul
Originally we were considering how Tourist Mode will end up in the game, but now that we have the Narrative Content in game (at least the start of it) we no longer need to have the two separated. To reflect that we now have returned to the old menu style with buttons for Bug Reporting, Socials, the Roadmap, and a quick link to read the latest news posts!
Other Updates
In other news, we have finally admitted defeat against the lightbox bug caused by the fluid simulation in the game. As such (and the FPS drop during fluid creation) we have decided to remove the feature entirely. We will be building a particle-based ejaculation system as a result, it should have all the same features, but it might take a little time to mature as a mechanic.

This will be the last update before the demo drops, so I hope to see you all in the game very soon!
