Graphics And Vegetation Update

Hello Hunters!


We are happy and proud to address one of the biggest feedback we’ve received about the game since its launch to early access, the visuals! In this update we have completely reworked the lighting, added more and better looking grass, reworked vegetation in all biomes, increased view distance and much, much more. Hiking across the forests, fields and meadows has never looked and felt better and the horrifying fields with grass in a straight line are finally gone. And who knows, maybe you find a trophy red deer with a new set of antlers. Immerse yourself in the landscapes and let us know what you think!


[h2]Graphics And Vegetation rework[/h2]
  • Reworked and adjusted lighting and shadows
  • Reworked color grading
  • Added custom grass to each biome
  • Reworked vegetation in several biomes
  • Reworked grass / vegetation fade in and out for less pop in, even with low settings
  • Added hay piles to fields
  • Replaced mountain trees with better looking and more performant ones
  • Reworked subsurface scattering on trees
  • Increased view distance
  • Removed render distance from settings
  • Added distance fog

[h2]Additions[/h2]
  • Added light rays (can be turned on/off from settings)
  • Added smoke coming from the lodge and outposts fireplaces
  • Added new loading screens
  • Weapons grab height offset-setting increased by 50%

[h2]Animal Changes[/h2]
  • Added a new set of antlers for red deer
  • Wild boar and fallow deer running animations sped up
  • Optimized antlers and tusks

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where several animal animations were not synced with their movement speed. This made them look like they were sliding instead of walking.
  • Changed “fur type” to “ feather type” for pheasants


With these improvements, all graphic settings will have similar performance than before with increased visuals and more vegetation. Try different settings and find your sweet spot. If you run into any issues, report them here in Steam forums or join our discord for a quick answer.

Pheasants Update - Fixes And Changes #1

Hey Hunters!


This patch fixes several issues found from the latest update including pheasants not giving integrity properly, .303’s stabilization issues while holding your breath, fallow deer animations and many others! We also included a few changes and improvements like wrist slots will now be hidden when not holding the mobile tracker and all deer species can now turn their head more back when staring at the player. Enjoy the update and keep posting your awesome pheasant hunts!

[h2]Animal Changes[/h2]
  • Animals won’t create droppings while fleeing
  • All deer species now turn their head more when staring at the player

[h2]Improvements[/h2]
  • Wrist slots are hidden if the mobile tracker isn’t in the player’s hand*
  • Traditional arrows are deeper in quivers

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where the pheasants integrity was 0% even if it was shot during flight with proper ammo or arrows
  • Fixed an issue where hold your breath stabilization strength for the .303 rifle was too strong with the virtual stock on
  • Fixed an issue where you didn’t travel to a selected outpost after clicking the reserve name -button in quick hunt.
  • Fixed several issues with animals that are far from the player
  • Fixed an issue where animals would come to callers even if they were recently spooked or they are nervous
  • Fixed fallow deer's movement animations
  • Fixed the title of pheasant caller’s info board


* This prevents the wrist slot bubble blocking player's view while aiming with iron sights.

Pheasant and improvements update

Hello Virtual Hunters!


A new major update has been released to Virtual Hunter! This update brings the first huntable bird, Pheasant, to the game with new hunting mechanics, new ceiling mounts, new arrow type, reworked shotgun and bow ballistics and much needed fixes and improvements! There is a lot in this update so read all about it below. Enjoy the update, let us know what you think and happy pheasant hunting!

  • New Animal - Pheasant
  • Pheasant location caller
  • Pheasant info book
  • Pheasant trophy statues
  • Added a new mount type, ceiling mounts
  • Added a new arrow type, 300gr flu-flu
  • Added a whistle function to flush pheasant

[h2]New features[/h2]
  • Added a realistic bow settings*
  • Added a quick hunt feature (You can go straight to hunting from the main menu)**
  • X-ray button on the harvest screen now toggles between animal and x-ray view
  • Added impact effects when hitting ground, animals and water
  • Added a hint for the whistle
  • Added a hint for the Trophy manager
  • Added a hint about attaching a scope to different attaching points
  • Players are reminded to play tutorial when starting a new save

[h2]Animal Changes[/h2]
  • Added trotting mechanic for most animals
  • Some animals can answer to callers

[h2]Improvements[/h2]
  • Optimized animals to use less CPU
  • Improved shotgun ballistics and birdshot spray
  • Reworked bow and arrow ballistics
  • Shouldering and hold breath stabilization decreased from shotguns
  • Improved hares and pheasants hiding behavior***
  • Improvements on animals flee behavior
  • Improved shader and subsurface scattering on trees (makes them look way better)
  • Increased the mesh tree distance by 100-150 meters depending on the vegetation distance settings. (Shadows are now slightly more heavier for GPU, lower their quality if needed)
  • Increased height of the tutorial destination circle
  • Faster time rewinding on Bulgaria reserve
  • Improved environmental lighting and color corrections
  • The back slot will vibrate for 0.3 second instead of continuous vibration
  • Added a close button on the color view in settings
  • Changed the name of the “How to play” section to “Learn to hunt”
  • Added tooltips to “lodge”, “hunt” and “backup” buttons in main menu

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where animals would not sometimes flee
  • Fixed several situations where animals get stuck
  • Fixed an issue where red deer male wouldn’t stop making a call
  • Fixed an issue where animals that has separate alert call wouldn’t use it when sensing the player
  • Fixed an issue where male fallow deer wouldn't stare right at the player
  • Fixed a fallow deer neck fur material
  • Fixed an issue where stock offset didn’t work with stabilization set to 0%
  • Fixed the digital clock hint text
  • Fixed an issue where toggle button color is activated but the settings isn’t
  • Removed a tree from inside the mountain outpost


* We have added realistic bow to the game which can be enabled from the settings. This setting turns the bow into a two handed weapon and unlike the current bow, your backhand is also taken into account. When the bow is drawn, the front hands rotation is limited and small adjustments can be done with the back hand. This makes the bow more realistic to handle but also increases its difficulty to use. We highly advise spending time to adjust the settings and mastering the bow at the range.

** With the quick hunt, you can skip the lodge and go straight to hunting from the main menu. Select save slot, press hunt, choose an outpost and time and hit “Start” to start the hunt! It loads your last used weapons and items so you can get right back where you left off last time.

*** Hiding animals will now run away when shot close, they will stay hidden for longer and they won't be able to hide right away after they’ve fled from hiding.
