Recon Report: Cread's Fortress

You'll need all the intel you can get if you're going to successfully infiltrate Cread's Fortress and bring an end to Dr Cread’s plans for world domination!

Cread's Fortress is located on a remote paradise island. It's unclear why this specific island was chosen, though there is reason to believe Dr. Cread has possibly discovered an ancient technology located within the island itself and is now researching how to use this technology to power devastating new robotic inventions.

The Fortress is a large technological-futuristic complex, the headquarters of the Cread Legion, and the private sanctuary of Dr. Cread. The living quarters of the elite legionnaires and Cread’s Seven Cyborg generals can be found in the west wing, heavily secured by robotic drones and key coded security doors. Accessing this part of the Fortress will not be an easy feat, as progress will get increasingly dangerous and require the procurement of keycards to access secure locations.

Two core research laboratories exist within Cread's Fortress, aiding in the development of both biological and technological weaponry. Protected by a network of laser beams, these defenses can only be overcome by locating and disconnecting their power source.

The biolaboratory is the source of most of the island's mutants, the results of Dr. Creads experimentations. Everywhere you go, you’ll find flasks and jars containing mutated plants or the preserved parts of unknown creatures. Creepy! This section of Cread's Fortress accumulates unusable biomaterial waste. which is turned into green slurry, then poured into tunnels surrounding the Fortress. Should you locate any of this toxic waste on your mission, we highly recommend you do NOT touch it or taste it!

The technological research center is where Dr. Cread studies robotics, develops new concepts for deadly robots, and perfects the mind-altering technology that allows him to suppress and control the will of other people. The area is filled with various prototypes, interfaces, and panels, and the walls are covered with concept boards. Test rooms can be located off the main research center containing everything Dr. Cread is currently working on. We highly recommend you treat anything you find here as extremely dangerous, and do not press any buttons!

Initially, the Fortress was conceived not only as a research center, but also as a place where Cread could receive guests, demonstrating his technological achievements while cutting deals and issuing demands. As such, the entrance and conference facilities have a suitably decadent decor and fine carpets, with artwork and statues adorning the halls as testament to Dr. Cread’s genius and wealth. Not all guests are wanted, of course. As such, the Fortress contains a much-needed, high-tech prison block, a location that those who get on the wrong side of Dr. Cread will soon call home. You’ll want to avoid ending up here at all costs, as escape will be impossible!

(concept art)

At the time of writing Dr. Cread has severed contact with the outside world. However, his laboratories are still functioning. We must learn his plans, understand what ancient technology he has harnessed, and prevent him from using it to create unstoppable robotic weaponry.

Godspeed, B.L.A.S.T. recruits, and good luck... You’re going to need it!

Full Dossier: Cread Legion

The Cread Legion is an elite faction of the Deviant League, created and ruled over by the mysterious and nefarious Dr. Cread. This sinister force operates from within Cread's Fortress — hidden deep within the remote island paradise, their sole purpose is to establish Dr. Cread’s world dominance.

The Legion itself consists of several branches, divided by hierarchy and driven by the motto “Doctor’s Orders!”. The lowest branch consists of criminals, mercenaries, and many now-brainwashed enemies sent to defeat Dr. Cread over the years. The division is equipped with unique weapons and armor, all of which were developed by Cread himself ensuring each has the specialized capabilities needed to complete their criminal endeavors, though more often than not, they simply serve as cannon fodder.

One rung above the infantry are the Robot Corps, a branch of the Legion consisting of robots — some self-aware, some programmed to act within a certain set of parameters. While many of these robots were created by Dr. Cread, others are runaways from various civilized societies. These robots are generally more capable and valuable than simple infantrymen.

(Concept Art)

The most elite branch of the Cread Legion is the Seven Savage Cyborgs, Dr. Cread's lieutenants. This small unit consists of especially deadly fighters, some of whom served Dr. Cread long before the Legion was established, with others being formidable rivals forced to bend to Cread’s will. Heavily augmented and enhanced by Dr. Cread over the years, these savage soldiers have become deadly cyborgs with no capacity for mercy or hesitation.

(Concept Art)

Cread's dark ambitions extend beyond human and cyborg soldiers. The Legion is also host to a variety of horrifying experiments; mutated flora and fauna from the island such as pangolin shooters, jellyfish bosses, fish-headed robots, and giant carnivorous plants.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: explore the remote island, locate and infiltrate Cread's Fortress, defeat the Cread Legion, and save the world!

Full Dossier: Dr. Cread

You’ve met the hero, now let's take a look at the main antagonist in Blast Brigade vs. The Evil Legion of Dr. Cread: Fang Zeng Shan, aka Calvin Cornelius Cread, better known to his friends (if he had any) as Dr. Cread.

Dr. Cread’s origins and family history explain a lot about his narcissist motivations and his drive for world domination. The Cread family hails from Chinese heritage, a family of noble blood with a history of unprecedented intelligence and a gift for science and experimentation. Dr. Cread’s great-grandfather was a genius scientist who, in the early 19th century, devoted his genius towards turning the tide of a great war. However, he ultimately found himself on the losing side. Refusing to accept defeat he went into exile, traveling the world to devastate his unsuspecting enemies in secret. Cread’s father and grandfather also became aspiring revolutionaries. However, neither of them achieved any notable progress in their mission to restore the world to its pre-war glory days. The younger Dr. Cread, then known as Fang Zeng Shan, was born into this revolutionary lifestyle, and knew that, unlike his family before him, he was destined for great things.

From early childhood, Calvin Cornelius Cread (a pseudonym Fang adopted to hide his true identity) was well accustomed to the feeling of profound alienation by his peers, brought about by his supreme intelligence. After spending years unsuccessfully trying to lower his mental cognition to match that of other human beings, Dr. Cread came to realize that there was nothing wrong with just being his supreme self... even if that self was an audacious reformist with extreme, grandiose ambition.

Dr. Cread first became known to the criminal world as a smuggler and freedom fighter operating along the coast of North Africa. He quickly rose to prominence due to his ruthlessness, charisma, and scientific genius, earning a fortune with his devious and daring criminal acts. When a powerful alliance of criminal organizations known as the Deviant League was established in 1984, Dr. Cread soon became one of the most notorious criminals in the world. Feared across the globe, he built an army of thugs, rebels, and robots known as the Cread Legion to rival that of even the largest nations.

(Early concept art)

It wasn’t long before Dr. Cread firmly established himself as leader of the Deviant League. After a short series of ambitious yet ultimately fruitless attempts at world domination, he grew weary of petty human squabbles and secluded himself on a remote island. Here, he enslaved its population, and dedicated all of his time to the obscure art of building giant death robots. This is how he fell on the radar of B.L.A.S.T. (Battlefield Logistics Advanced Support Team) and triggered the immediate intervention of our heroes.

This briefing is now complete, future BLAST recruits! You’ll soon be ready to join the fight against the dastardly Doctor Cread, battle the forces of chaos, and bring an end to his evil plans. Be vigilant, be brave, and most importantly – have a blast!

Be sure to follow our game and add Blast Brigade to your wishlist on Steam. We really appreciate your support!

Bosses and Mobs: Part III

Do you want to build a monster?

We’re not sure if this spooky remix was on Dr. Cread’s playlist when he was experimenting at his lab. It’s obvious, however, that his ambition has overflown… literally. Today we’ll focus on the result of that - the inhabitants of Toxic Ducts – stinky, nasty, and dangerous.

The Toxic Ducts sewage system is located right underneath Dr. Cread’s laboratory. Over time, it was filled with waste from all kinds of experiments… including mutagens. Various life forms occupying the area were contaminated with them, and evolved beyond imagination to the point that they posed a threat to the evil genius himself.

The top levels of the sewage system are home to lighter mutations which only turned the flora and fauna present there into vicious killing machines. Just that. Nothing mind-boggling. You will have to make your way through colonies of bloodthirsty bats, infestations of carnivorous plants, slugs and other life-forms whose origins are harder to identify.

The most concerning tenant resides deep below. It is known as Gobbler… and for good reason. This overgrown, nightmarish slug is the largest of its kind on the island. Its body is covered in toxic waste, poisonous mushrooms, peculiar runes, and even parts of machinery! Its appetite is as legendary as its stench, which can on its own be called a powerful weapon.

Speaking of appetite – it’s actually what drives Gobbler apart from other cave slugs. Usually these creatures think of only two things – crawling and eating. Gobbler, however, one day had a eureka moment and made a discovery that turned it into an Einstein of its race. Gobbler thought “TASTY!”. Since then its life has been devoted to consuming tasty things… The diet that started with mushrooms and insects soon expanded to snakes, rabbits, trees, stones, humans, cyborgs, and even heavy machinery.

Could it have gobbled up something of yours? If you want to find out, you may have a fight on your hands. In combat, Gobbler prefers to stay in one place… after all it has a whole arsenal consumed and stored inside its body. Boulders, bombs, and toxic projectiles are but a few of the tools at this monstrosity’s disposal. However, with your keen spy senses and training on your side, you’re bound to emerge victorious. Spy senses, not sense of smell, rookie. You might want to hold your nose...

This wraps up our series of articles about some of the bosses you will encounter in Blast Brigade. Of course this is just a small portion of the boss line-up we are preparing. And next time we’ll talk about their evil creator, so stay tuned!
