Demo Update: Build 1516

Hey Anglers,

We have to start by saying THANK YOU to everyone who has played DREDGE: CHAPTER ONE so far. We've had literally thousands of you play our little fishing game, which has blown our expectations out of the water.

We've just pushed a new build of the demo live with some bugfixes and improvements. All of these came from the feedback you've given us, either via our Discord or the in-game feedback form [F10] - so keep that feedback coming!

Here are the patch notes:
  1. Fixed a critical issue where players managed to uninstall their engine while out at sea.
  2. Fixed an issue where the tooltip could disappear when installing equipment, making players think they were stuck.
  3. Fixed an exploit where a puzzle reward could be claimed repeatedly.
  4. Fixed an issue where particles on character portraits (flies, dust, etc) scaled incorrectly at high resolutions.
  5. Fixed an issue where the boat's light could be in an incorrect state when loading the game.
  6. Fixed an issue where the camera could get confused when docking near a crab pot.
  7. Fixed a typo in one of the Mayor's lines that we must have not noticed for literally a year.
  8. Fixed a couple of slightly embarrassing chinese translations. Please note that all of our translations are currently being improved for the full release.
  9. Added a "Reset All Settings" button on the settings screen. Please note that the confirmation dialogue has not been translated into other languages yet.
  10. If players get lost and dock at Little Marrow before completing the tutorial quest, the Dockworker will pop up and remind them where Greater Marrow is. Please note that this line has not been translated into other languages yet.
  11. The encyclopedia 'page turn' animation was too severe, so it has been adjusted.
  12. The default master volume of the game is now ~25% quieter. Existing players will be unaffected by this change until they adjust it in the Settings menu.
  13. Adjusted the lighthouse ambience to be much less grating on the ears.
  14. Adjusted some camera colliders around Blackstone Isle.
  15. Add SFX to a previously silent group of sea creatures.
  16. Re-planted some floating trees at the top of some islands.

And some significant known issues:
  1. There’s an issue where sometimes you need to disable steam’s PlayStation / Switch support for the game to correctly register these controllers. To solve this:
Close the game > right click the game in your library > Properties > Controller > Override for DREDGE > Disable Steam Input > Reopen the game
Alternatively, go into your main Steam Settings and disable PlayStation controller support under the controller settings. Please note that this will affect all of your Steam games.
  2. Crab pots may stop working even though they have a few hours of durability left, but only when playing in russian language. Yeah, don't ask.
  3. The game fails to launch on Windows 7.
  4. Some game UI does not scale nicely on 4:3 aspect ratios.

Q: How do I know if I've received the update?
A: It should say "1516" in the bottom right corner of the title screen.

Dredge is a gorgeous Lovecraftian fishing RPG that deserves your attention

It's almost a little too easy to become comfortable with Dredge. I've been sailing all night long in my wee fishing boat, Tetrissing all manner of fish inside my inventory Resident Evil-style. I'm so engrossed I've failed to notice the rocks that are desperate for me to crash and the mysterious critters that are slithering their way into my meticulously organised vessel...

I love that 'horror fishing game' is becoming a genre

There's something inherently spooky about fishing. You're often alone on a boat, sometimes far out at sea. You're casting a line into deep, murky waters and feeling an unknown, unseen creature suddenly sink its teeth into your bait and begin to pull. You're a hunter with nothing but a string on a stick in an environment almost entirely hidden from view, one you can't survive in for long should anything go wrong. It's the perfect canvas for creeping dread and big scares...

DREDGE x Team17

Explore a mysterious archipelago and fish the unfathomable next year on Steam!

Team17 and New Zealand-based developer Black Salt Games have today announced a publishing partnership to bring DREDGE, an upcoming single-player fishing adventure with a sinister undercurrent, to Steam and consoles in 2023.

In DREDGE, players will step into the boots of a down-on-their luck fisherman and explore a collection of remote isles while scouring the surrounding depths for a variety of fish and valuable deep-sea curios. Once their trawler is full, they can sell their haul to the peculiar locals while completing quests and unravelling more about each archipelago. They can also reinforce their vessel, skills, and knowledge to dredge deeper and reach more secluded lands.

Beginning in their new home in the remote islands of ‘The Marrows’, players will be able to investigate each area while completing tasks for the yesteryear locals and taking trips to neighbouring regions - each with their own unique fish to find, inhabitants to meet, and secrets to uncover.

Apprentice anglers and associate ichthyologists can enjoy a brand-new announcement trailer below:
