Lost Eidolons Patch Notes (11/29/2022)

Greetings, Tacticians,

We are releasing version GM1.03.00.R320 to apply the following fixes and improvements.
The patch will be live at:
  • 3 PM PST, November 29th, 2022
  • 6 PM EST, November 29th, 2022
  • 12 AM CET, November 30th, 2022
  • 8 AM KST, November 30th, 2022
Please note that if you are playing at this time, your game will not be interrupted. You will be prompted to download the patch the next time you open Lost Eidolons.

We also have an important note about the Bracelet of Durability stat fix. If you have a mid-battle save with a character equipping the Bracelet of Durability item, please refer to the details we share below.

Now, here’s a word about this patch from Jin Sang Kim, the Creative Director of Lost Eidolons.
--------------------------------------------
Hello, everyone!

This patch brings some small-but-important changes before we roll out the big patch in December (December patch will bring New Game+ and dialogue cutscene updates that I introduced before).

First of all, we made changes to the battle restart feature. You now have the option to start from the battle preparation phase. If you prefer, you can also choose the existing restart method--restarting from the very first turn. With this change, you can quickly make adjustments to your setup and get back into action when you restart a battle.

We also adjusted the battle balance for chapters 8 and 18. We felt those two battles may have been a huge difficulty spike for many players, so we focused on taming that spike a little bit. We also made it easier to get the very first recruitable character, Karin. There is power in numbers, so this should also help you with the subsequent battles!

Last but not least: I would say the biggest changes we bring in this patch would be enabling a proper Lost Eidolons experience on the Steam Deck. We fixed an issue with cutscenes so that they now show properly on the Steam Deck. Moreover, we added the option for changing the UI font size, which improves readability. We strongly believe these changes create a better experience to those who enjoy Lost Eidolons on a handheld device!
Patch Notes

Community-Requested Fixes and Improvements
• Make it easier to know which rapport gift works best for whom
    • Added icons to note gift categories that are effective for each character. These will be hidden at first, but will start unlocking when you give gifts that the character likes.
  • Go to prep screen when restarting battle
    • Added options when restarting battle: you can choose to start from either the very first turn (as before) or the battle preparation phase.
  • Font too small in UI
    • Starting with this patch, the default value for subtitle & UI font size will be applied as large font.
      • The change will not be applied for players who previously set the font size under Settings. Players who have not will see the large font applied by default.
    • Added UI font size option to Settings (can be set to default or large font)
    • Improved Chinese font size. We will continue to make further improvements.
  • Auto-save indicator
    • Added an auto-save message on the top left of the screen, which will show when the game saves automatically.
  • Steam Deck compatibility
    • Fixed the issue where cutscenes showed as a black screen on the Steam Deck.
  • Ch. 18 battle difficulty
    • Adjusted the difficulty of Ch. 18 battle
      • The miners will now survive longer than before.
      • Adjusted the mix of classes of enemy units.
Other Fixes and Improvements
• Fixed the incorrectly implemented stats on the quest item Bracelet of Durability, which you obtain during a side quest in Ch. 14.
    • [IMPORTANT] If you have a unit equipped with the item and saved mid-battle, using Continue to resume the battle may cause a crash. While the crash happened very rarely during our testing, when it happened, it resulted in losing that save file.

If you are unsure, you may want to wait on the update until you check and save at a point where you are are no longer equipping the item.
  • Added a tutorial on Bond Effect during Ch. 4 battle.
  • Added a message to let you know there are quests that are not being tracked, when you have 3 or more quests currently in progress.
  • Added missing quest text: some quests in Ch. 10 & 11, as well as the Journal menu.
  • Added notification messages for save file errors.
  • Adjusted the difficulty for recruiting Karin by building rapport with her. Players can now recruit her more easily.
  • Adjusted the difficulty of Ch. 8 battle.
    • The debuff that triggers when you destroy the Unfortified Wall will be applied to all enemies except for the boss.
  • Fixed text issues for skills: Prudent Strike and Chains of Ascuasa (Balastar’s skill).
  • Fixed the issue where the different areas were not shown on the camp map, if you opened the map while standing in-between areas.
  • Fixed the issue where there could be an infinite attack loop when using the Relentless Strike skill.
  • Improved so that you can retrieve equipment from characters that leave the camp.
    • Some characters' equipment can be retrieved by talking to others in the camp after they are no longer available.
    • Other characters' equipment will be automatically retrieved when they leave the camp.
  • Improved game’s stability related to crashes and controls.
  • Improved notifications for obtaining items by adding sound effects and making them last longer.
  • Removed Restart from the menu in Ch. 0 tutorial battle.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to fix issues and provide more improvements per your suggestions.

Support Lost Eidolons for Steam Awards 2022!

Greetings, Tacticians!

We hope you are enjoying your journey through Artemesia. Many of you have been part of our journey in making Lost Eidolons a reality, as community feedback has been part of our core development philosophy from the very beginning and continues to be for updates to come.

It is your feedback that gives us the confidence to say that there is a lot to like about Lost Eidolons. To name a few: highly strategic battles, awesome soundtrack by Clark Aboud, characters that grow on you, Eden’s plight as he tries to navigate through turbulent times, and more.

It was difficult for us to hone in on a single category under Steam Awards. After much thought, we concluded to keep the focus on the core experience we bring: the classic turn-based tactical RPG on a grid-based battlefield. Hence, we thought “Best Game You Suck At” captured the tactical challenges you face in Lost Eidolons. Also, it only felt apt when the community feedback included calling the game “the Dark Souls of Fire Emblem”.

Please show your support for Lost Eidolons! Voting for Lost Eidolons in Steam Awards would be one way, but there is also so much more. Share your feedback with us on Discord or Feature Upvote, share what you liked about the game with your friends, write a Steam review, or follow one of our social channels (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram)!

A Letter from Ocean Drive Studio: One-Month Recap

Greetings, Tacticians!

It’s been a bit over a month since Lost Eidolons’ release. It’s hard to believe that a month has gone by already, as the team has been busy working on patches and additional development work. To find more information on our previous updates, please find earlier letters on launch day, at the one-week mark, and at the two-week mark, as well as previous patch notes (like here and here). We strongly believe that Lost Eidolons is becoming a better game with each update, thanks to your feedback and support.

As we just passed the one-month mark after launch, we’d like to share what we have planned for the future. On the development side, we have two major elements we’re working on.

First is the New Game+ mode. We would like to share what we are planning and preparing for the New Game+ mode below. For those who have been following us on our Discord server or other channels, you may find information you are familiar with already.

Features you can choose to carry over at the start of NG+:
  • Equipment Masteries
  • Class EXP
  • Rapport EXP
  • Codex
  • Equipment/Consumable Items (Normal, Rare, and Legendary)
  • Unique Items
  • Gift Items
  • Books/Essential Items
  • Gold
  • Prestige Points
Features added for NG+:
  • 2 Additional Equipped Skills Slots (Total 7 for NG+)
  • Merchant Salma Will Sell More Gift Items
  • SPOILER ALERT
  • Leon/Robin Selectable for Battle (No Narrative and/or Quest to Revive Though)
We believe that New Game+ will allow you to enjoy different difficulty levels and modes, complete achievements that you didn’t unlock in your first playthrough, and even try out different styles of gameplay.

The other major task we’re working on is story improvements. We’ve carefully reviewed the current story delivery, and tried various methods internally.

While the current story delivery may not have been the most effective to fully convey the circumstances and the atmosphere of each scene, we believe the direction we take with dialogue cutscene improvements would allow for better situational context and story immersion.

You will also find that we removed the fade-in/fade-out effects when characters are talking to each other. Furthermore, we plan to enable manual progression of the dialogue, which should allow you to enjoy the story at your own pace. Please find a video of the new cutscene improvements below, and let us know what you think!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In addition to the two main ones we shared above, we have many more improvements we're working on based on player feedback. If you have any feedback you want to share with us, or if you want to track our progress on the various feedback, please go to our Feature Upvote board. We will continue to work diligently in order to bring you the best Lost Eidolons experience we can!

Lost Eidolons Patch Notes (11/9/2022)

Now, here's a word about this patch from Jin Sang Kim, our Creative Director of Lost Eidolons.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys,

As you know we are working hard on our big patch that will bring the New Game+ to you, and that means some changes will be made in preparation, like the ability to save the game after seeing the ending. We’ll do a full release of our plans for NG+ in the coming days, so be sure to leave your suggestions on Discord or Feature Upvote.

In regards to the suggestions that you’ve already given, I do feel bad that we haven’t been able to implement them all quickly and have been working on them based on priority. But we are chipping away at the list. For instance, we are adding the Y-axis invert function for the controller and the keyboard, and we fixed the ultrawide resolution issue so you can play under better conditions.

As for our next patch following today, we are aiming to make it so that we are Steam Deck compatible. And we will also adjust the difficulty level for chapters 8 and 18 as we’ve gotten reports that you find these chapters to be too difficult. On top of that, we are giving you the ability to manage the team and prepare better for battle when you restart. And finally, we’re going to add an option for you to adjust the UI font size.

We will continue to improve the gaming experience with your feedback. So please keep them coming!

-Jin Sang

Now, here's a word about this patch from Jin Sang Kim, our Creative Director of Lost Eidolons.

Hey guys,

It's been a really wild, eye-opening couple of weeks since the game launched on October 12th. After a short celebration, we scrambled to gather all the feedback and suggestions that poured in from various channels.

As you may know, the set turn limit was the hottest topic after launch, which I had not anticipated at all. After a brief moment of shock, my team and I got to work. We spent hours discussing how to deliver the best experience for all our players including those who liked or did not mind the turn limit. As this touched upon the core mechanic of the game, there were a lot of technical hurdles to overcome to remove the limit completely. Our initial conversations prioritized the speed at which we can address the issue, as we really wanted to tell the disappointed players as quickly as possible that we remedied their problem. And had we kept speed as the top priority, we would have been able to turn off the limit last week but at a cost--you wouldn't have been able to save the game after certain turns. After more discussions, we decided that it was much more important to address the issue at its core and that delivering quality is a higher priority than speed.

So a big thank-you to those who waited patiently for us to address the turn limit issue. You can now choose to turn off the limit when you start a new game. For those who do not mind, you can keep it on as the default setting.

Another thing that took me by surprise (maybe not everyone on the team) was the issue of long cutscenes, especially when you first start the game. As a story-driven game, I had placed a lot of importance on delivering the story and the context via cutscenes and dialogs. But I've learned that it was perhaps a bit too much in the beginning and that you prefer to quickly get to the heart of the game--the gameplay-- and unravel the story as you go. Therefore we've removed the first three cutscenes in order to get you to the first episode battle more quickly.

We continuously look at what you tell us, so please make suggestions or vote for others' suggestions you agree with on our Lost Eidolons Feature Upvote board! If you look at the board, you will see that we are already working on our next set of QoL changes like manual dialog advancement in cutscenes.
