Looking for feedback on release-1.5

There have been several similar patches on the release-1.5 branch since the previous update, in which we detailed the changes in 1.5.1. You can see that update here:

In 1.5.2 through 1.5.4, we addressed issues found in 1.5.1 and continued to improve the Gamepad UI implementation.

[h3]Change Log[/h3]
Here is a summary of changes between version 1.5.1 and 1.5.4

  • New version compatibility system which tracks what version of the game each save is using, giving users a warning when they load a save from a different version of Entropy : Zero 2.
  • New button in the menu explaining how to switch back to the old UI.
  • Most of the UI is now proportional to the Steam Deck screen so that it scales better on higher resolutions.
  • The version stamp now appears directly on the menu instead of in the background map. (unless using old UI)
  • In the Save/Load Game menus, new saves with Wilson in them will now show tiny Wilson icons in the top left corners of their preview images.
  • The Load Game menu now has a button for deleting saves.
  • The Load Game menu will no longer crash when there are no saves.
  • The Glownome's chest projectiles will now properly appear as blue.

[h3]Testing[/h3]
This time around, we are asking for help in testing this update. The GamepadUI update is a major change to the way people play Entropy : Zero 2, and we really need to stress test it to make sure it's ready for release. With that in mind, if anyone has a chance to play through the game in the release-1.5 update and tell us about their experience, we would greatly appreciate it. We are especially looking for feedback from users with controllers, Steam Deck, or who are on Linux, but we also would appreciate feedback from Windows users with the traditional mouse and keyboard to smoke test the update.

If you need to use the default menu again, you can currently do so by going into the game's properties and typing "-nogamepadui" in the game's launch options.

Release 1.5.1 (New UI) published to beta branch for testing

We just pushed an updated build of Entropy : Zero 2 to a new release branch for testing. (Release-1.5)

The release-1.5 branch mainly adds a new menu interface called Gamepad UI. This is the same UI which was added to Half-Life 2 and Portal to support the Steam Deck. Its source code was recently published on GitHub, so we've decided to integrate it into Entropy : Zero 2 alongside the other Steam Deck-related changes added in release-1.4.



Gamepad UI was mostly designed to be used for the Steam Deck alone, but since it has several major advantages over the default UI, we're currently aiming to use it as a universal menu replacement for all users. Note that this may be subject to change depending on the feedback we receive.

Release 1.4.2 (Linux and Steam Deck) published to beta branch for testing

We have pushed an updated build of Entropy : Zero 2 to the Steam beta branch for testing. (Release-1.4)

The release 1.4 branch is a little different from previous betas because it contains no changes to gameplay. All the changes made for version 1.4.2 are related to Linux, Steam Deck, and Steam Input compatibility. (Besides one change: The Workshop publisher now supports previewing PNG images) Previously these changes were on a different Steam beta branch called "deck-testing" that was made from an older version.

If you are currently opted into the deck-testing branch for Linux or controller support, please switch to the release-1.4 branch.

Version 1.3.1 is live
