Dune: Spice Wars - Community Update #1 Out Now!

Hey Everyone!

Community Update #1 is now live! With this update, we have made a number of changes based entirely on the feedback and suggestions of our players since our launch out of early access!

Check out the full list of changes below…
Controller Support
The game is now fully playable with a controller, crossplay with XBOX is supported.

The wheel menu has been added to provide a seamless experience for controller users.
Keyword Tooltip
It’s now possible to hover over most keywords to open a tooltip, a much-requested feature..
Landsraad Rework
To make the Landsraad council less of a strain on your attention, we’ve condensed it into a single event that happens every 20 days. It puts the whole game on pause, and contains every landsraad phase in short succession.
Other important changes to the Landsraad Council:
To make strategy involving Charters less subject to luck, we added a new system: Charter Priority, letting players choose which Charter will appear on the ballot thanks to their influence.
We added many new resolutions and improved the way they were picked to make the proposed resolutions more relevant to current situation.
We improved the visual representation of political power, and voting results, as well as a tutorial for the Landsraad Council.
Harvester rework
Harvesters no longer require to be manually deployed. To keep the thematic element of risk/reward involved in Spice Harvesting, they now have two modes: Greed Mode and Safe Mode
Safe Mode is only available with an ornithopter attached.
Conquest
Many Atreides, Harkonnen and Corrino bonuses have been reworked to be more enjoyeable & fun.
Main Base Buildings
We've added 3 new Main Base Buildings: Recycling Vats, Fusion Plant and Landsraad Quarters.
Water Balancing
The development that unlocked the “windtraps” building felt mandatory in the previous patch, which is why we removed it completely: “Windtraps” are now exclusive to the Fremen. “Dew collectors” have been balanced accordingly, and new avenues of Water production have been added.

Vote for Dune: Spice Wars in the Steam Awards!

Hello everyone!

Nominations for the 2023 Steam Awards are open, and we would love it if you would vote for Dune: Spice Wars in the ‘Outstanding visual style’ category.

Navigating the challenges of a revered universe like Dune, we embarked on a delicate dance between uniqueness and homage. Breaking free from existing materials, we forged our own expression within Herbert's legacy. The diverse desert biomes of Arrakis became our canvas, injecting vitality into procedurally generated maps and avoiding the monotony of endless sand dunes.

As a mark of our commitment to innovation, we're proud that Dune: Spice Wars was honoured with the Best Technological Innovation award at the 2023 Pégases, recognizing its groundbreaking procedurally generated maps.

“There is in all things a pattern that is part of our universe. It has symmetry, elegance, and grace - these qualities you find always in that the true artist captures. You can find it in the turning of the seasons, the way sand trails along a ridge, in the branch clusters of the creosote bush of the pattern of its leaves. We try to copy these patterns in our lives and in our society, seeking the rhythms, the dances, the forms that comfort. Yet, it is possible to see peril in the finding of ultimate perfection. It is clear that the ultimate pattern contains its own fixity. In such perfection, all things move towards death.” - Frank Herbert, Dune

Thank you all for your continued support,

Dune: Spice Wars review

rrakis, Frank Herbert's inhospitable planet and the setting for Dune: Spice Wars, is arguably the single most famous celestial body in all of science fiction. It sprang tailor-made for strategy gaming with its murderous terrain, political intrigue, and a cluster of markedly differentiated factions vying for control of its priceless natural resource: the Spice Melange. That the foundations of the modern RTS were laid there in 1992 with Westwood’s Dune 2 was hardly a surprise...
