ZeroSpace Development Updates and Upcoming Playtest Dates!

Hello everyone!

We want to start off by giving you a timeline update. As you may know, we are a relatively small team with big aspirations, and we want to be transparent about where we stand with our upcoming release. It’s been a challenge to secure a publisher in the current industry climate, and we believe our timeline has been impacted to the point where it's unlikely we’re able to get ZeroSpace to the level of polish we’d like by May. We haven't made any final decisions yet, but we are considering Early Access and/or postponing the full release. We understand this wouldn't be ideal but believe it could ensure that ZeroSpace lives up to both our standards and your expectations.

That said, many publishers are interested in our project, and we're continuing to seek out the best partnership for the game. We will keep you updated on our progress and timeline and let you know if we have any news in terms of a final decision and/or a publisher deal.

In the meantime, it’s still full steam ahead for our team. Since our last check-in, we’ve been working on tons of new features, from unit remodels to new environments and character refinements. Let us know what you think!

So what’s new in ZeroSpace?


[h2]New Map Tileset[/h2]

We're working on a detailed environmental tileset for urban Protectorate areas, focusing on an upper-class, Administrative District aesthetic, filled with new props, models, and decorations.

We’ve been working on new cinematics, character details, campaign missions, and lots of world building!

[h2]Atlas Unit Remodel[/h2]
Our art team has reimagined the Atlas unit for better visual appeal and detail. Let us know what you think!



[h2]Flux Model Updates[/h2]
We're re-imagining Flux nodes, drawing inspiration from a combination of sea flora shapes and traditional crystals. While Flux is pervasive throughout the galaxy, it's usually found in small quantities... but once in a while, it may come crashing down in meteor form, bringing large, concentrated deposits!



[h2]Revamped Mercenary System[/h2]
We've been refining the mercenary system to ensure each faction retains its unique identity and playstyle without overshadowing the core factions. To support this vision, every Mercenary Group will now have a buildable, faction-specific Tavern, allowing players to explore not only Mercenary units but also new upgrades and mechanics that emphasize their unique identities and gameplay avenues. We've also introduced a powerful, often modifiable, top-bar ability for each mercenary faction and reduced the number of units for each faction by one to better focus on their unique roles and abilities.

We're also experimenting with a new charge system. Rather than all merc units costing a single charge, each will now require a specific number of charges in addition to resources. We believe this change will allow for more interesting unit designs and add an extra layer of strategy.

These updates won’t be quite ready for the next playtest. However, we’re excited about how the mercenary taverns are shaping up and couldn’t wait to share them with you!

[h2]Upcoming Playtesting Dates[/h2]
Mark your calendars! We have three playtesting phases coming up, and we can't wait to get you back into the game.

1. Alpha Test: November 1-8
This will be a closed alpha test. We are trying out a lot of changes, some of them very experimental, so your feedback during this phase will be crucial as we fine-tune core gameplay mechanics.

2. First Beta Test: November 15-21
Our beta phase will allow for a more polished experience. We welcome streaming during this period to help spread the word about ZeroSpace!

3. Free Demo Weekend: November 22-24
To cap off our testing phase, we're opening the gates to everyone! This 72-hour demo will give players a taste of what ZeroSpace has to offer.

Gunship, Aster's Turret, and Bastion Model Revamp

Updated Protectorate Models


We're excited to share some visual updates for Protectorate! Our team has been hard at work refining the models across the protectorate, we’ve chosen to highlight the Gunship, Aster’s Turret, and the Bastion here. These have all been given a revamped look to better reflect their unique roles on the battlefield, enhancing their visual distinction and overall impact in-game.

  • The Gunship’s updated model we showed last month is now in game, it features sleeker lines and more pronounced weaponry, helping to give it a stronger identity among the Protectorate lineup.
  • We've also updated Aster's Turret with more detailed features, ensuring it now clearly represents its function on the battlefield.

  • The Bastion has been reinforced with enhanced armor details and a more imposing structure, emphasizing its role as a frontline unit.

Exciting News from Ironward!


We're thrilled to announce that ZeroSpace’s partner studio, Ironward, has just revealed their latest game, Atre: Dominance Wars!


Set in a richly detailed world where magic can shape the fate of civilizations, Atre: Dominance Wars is a 4X RTS that combines classic and modern gameplay elements. Players will explore and conquer a procedurally generated world, building powerful armies and crafting magical artifacts to aid in their quest for supremacy. As an Elder, a mighty being with ambitions of Godhood, your decisions will alter the very fabric of the world around you. Every choice matters, and with the right strategy, you can rise to ultimate power and become unstoppable.

Development Progress


We’ve implemented tons of new additions since our last update. Here’s a peek into our latest progress:

[h2]Galactic Warfare[/h2]

In addition to ZeroSpace’s cinematic single player campaign and fine-tuned PvP modes, one piece of our vision that we believe has a tremendous amount of potential is Galactic Warfare – a persistent, massively multiplayer galaxy where you and your friends team up to control territory for your chosen alliance.



We’ve been putting a lot of work into design, infrastructure and engineering to make Galactic Warfare happen. We’ve been particularly heartened to see the community reaction to Helldivers II, which has a community-driven metagame that is similar in spirit and design to what we’ve been building. You can see Galactic Warfare teased in the campaign trailer released on IGN today, and we’ll share more behind-the-scenes work on this feature as it matures.

Here’s roughly how it plays: pick your alliance and expand your territory while earning incredible upgrades for your faction. Journey down to a planet's surface to engage in single player and co-op battles to capture a planet for your alliance. Level up and evolve your faction to get access to new units, abilities and technology. Capture and fortify stronghold planets with outposts and defenses that ruin your enemies' army and ensure that you still hold onto the valuable resources and upgrades hidden within the planet's surface. Fight for your friends, for your alliance – and for the fate of the galaxy.

[h2]Campaign[/h2]

During our latest testing period we released the first iteration of our Prologue! This includes creating tons of assets from scratch that now we’ll be able to use in future cinematics and gameplay, like all new environments, spacecrafts, and character models.



[h2]Xol[/h2]

The Xol are in the works! We’ve been crafting their character models, in-game abilities, and animations!



[h2]Survival Mode[/h2]

Our new game mode, Survival Mode, is now available to play during testing periods! Team up with a friend or go solo as you fend off waves of enemies for as long as you can!

[h2]New Mercenary Faction, Units, Heroes, and gameplay updates![/h2]

Arandi: The 5th mercenary faction has arrived! Use their technological prowess to dominate the battlefield



Shade: A corrupted Arandi - turned "Endari", this melee unit has uninterrupted phased movement and haunts the enemy who dares kill them.

Horned Mech: The horned mech is a unique fresh concept we're playing with, each auto-attack is a projectile that continues its slow trajectory in a line, damaging any units it passes through.

Phoenix Guard: An elite Arandi infantry unit, who unlike other civilization's infantry - it can fly!

Amplifier: Spellcaster with the ability to mind-control enemies for a short duration and a passive aura that spawns hallucinations of nearby allied units that have died.

Time Warper: An advanced Arandi Ship with the ability to teleport units to it and set up a phasing zone that slows time for enemies (attack speed and move speed)

[h3]Additional New Units![/h3]

Legion Dreadnought: The air counterpart to the Terror Tank is finally here. The dreadnought has a powerful (further upgradable) Bombardment ability, natural "detector" and can be customized to sense units in a large radius, teleport, and increase the power of its deadly beam attack.

Legion Rhino Rider: Our third Legion Barracks unit, Rhino Riders are selected by the Inquisitress herself. They rely on very small amounts of energy to knock-back enemies.

Valkaru Sensor Bot: Now playable, the Sensor bot offers through Valkaru the perk of early and relatively cheap surveillance and detection.

Wing'd Behemoth Redesign: The community spoke, and we listened. The Behemoth is in the process of being overhauled and its new design includes a transformation through which it morphs into a majestic creature with wings!

[h3]Heroes:[/h3]

I'olin: Triarch of the Arandi, I'olin can quickly teleport short distances, collapse space-time to create a black hole and use a powerful energy orb which returns to her to destroy her enemies.

Mera: Protectorate Commander Mera (melee) is perhaps the most agile hero in the game. She protects nearby allies via shields, and can increase her attack and movespeed during fights.

Hel: Marran General and Ambassador, Hel is the stealthiest and most precise of snipers, a strong scaling hero also equipped with a knock-back grenade to help him keep his distance.

[h3][NEW] Mercenary unique faction bonuses:[/h3]

Mercenaries are a core mechanic in ZeroSpace, Each faction will now also provide a unique passive bonus, reinforcing their identities and offering new unique avenues for play and strategy:

Arandi: Research upgrades are now instant.

Marran: Passively grants XP

Dread Raiders: Passive "Pillage" (generate hexite by killing extractors / harvesters)

Cha'Kru: Additional "Power" gained from units dying

Valkaru: Faster building construction

[h2]Visual Updates[/h2]

User Interface - We’ve completely overhauled our UI design to bring a more modern feel, and to highlight some of our mechanics. This is only our first pass and we’ve got some cool things planned that we can’t wait to get implemented.



We’re particularly interested in your feedback on the Tab Wheel, a new UI feature we’ve implemented by popular demand.

We’ve made some big updates to Grell building textures to give them more detail and make them look more realistic which we’re pretty happy with - what do you think?



[h2]Sound Updates[/h2]

We’ve been hard at work on an overall sound cleanup and polish pass. But the audio changes we’re really excited about are the 🗣️hundreds of new lines of voiced dialogue we’ve been recording to deepen immersion and bring the game to life.

Some units now interact and express themselves based on context: attack move, patrol, hold, formation, ability use, killing an enemy unit, whether they’re in a group or alone – and so many more. Some hero units have over 100 unique lines!

This is a work in progress, and not all units are currently implemented, but we’re really excited about how this change makes the game feel more alive, and can’t wait to hear your feedback.

But, of course, that’s not all. We’re hard at work on ZeroSpace and have plans for additional content drops throughout the Alpha. Here’s what you’ll be able to get your hands on.
