🌍 Planet of Lana: What awaits you on Novo?

Hello once again, friends of Lana and Mui!

As we’re inching closer and closer to the day we finally get to share our off-earth odyssey with all you patient fans (Tomorrow! Tuesday, 23rd of May), we thought we’d drop a little summary post of what you can expect from the game we’ve worked so hard on for 6 years.

While we’re feeling extremely proud of the final result, and confident that you’ll have a great time exploring Novo with Lana and Mui, we think it’s always a good idea to lay out the features of the game in black and white, so you know what to expect before spending your hard-earned money!

So without further ado, this is Planet of Lana in a nutshell:

  • A single-player 2.5D puzzle platformer where you progress through an alien world by solving environmental puzzles, sneaking past dangerous animals and robots.
  • Unique owner/dog-like companion based gameplay: Play together with your cute creature companion Mui. Work together and give it instructions in order to solve puzzles and progress through the game. And yes, you can pet Mui!
  • Experience an epic story through a linear gameplay experience with a rich backstory interwoven into the environments you explore.
  • Gameplay time around 4-6 hours depending on your playstyle.
  • All dialogue is using a made-up language native to Lana’s home planet of Novo. There are no subtitles available for the in-game dialogue in any language. This is a deliberate choice and not a bug :) Are you able to pick up some words?
  • Uncover and collect secret “shrine”-relics hidden throughout the game.
  • Full Mouse + Keyboard, keyboard only and gamepad support. Using a gamepad is recommended.
  • Accessibility features include: Disable quick time events, UI language support for 11 languages and scalable UI.
  • The retail price is $19.99 / £16.99 / €19.99 with 10% launch discount for one week.

That’s it! That’s Planet of Lana. Should we be lucky enough that you deem our humble opus worthy of your hard-earned money, we really really hope you enjoy playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it for you.

And as our writer and co-director Klas said in a recent blog post; "No matter what you think of the final result, remember we made a whole fricken planet!"

With love,
The Wishfully Team

Xbox Game Pass continues its hot streak with another critically-acclaimed game launching tomorrow

Xbox Game Pass continues to prove its value, with Planet of Lana receiving incredibly strong reviews ahead of it dropping on the service tomorrow.

One of the best things about Game Pass is the way it gives you the opportunity to try out the smaller games in between your playthroughs of the biggest hits of the year. There's plenty of great smaller titles, like Citizen Sleeper, or Signalis. And now, if you're looking for something else to play, it seems like Planet of Lana might be the perfect choice.

Reviews have started to come in for Planet of Lana, an Xbox console exclusive that drops on Game Pass tomorrow, May 23, and they are looking incredibly strong. GamesRadar gave the game a 4.5/5, highlighting its "fantastic variety of puzzle scenarios" and numerous "memorable moments." Rock Paper Shotgun didn't score its review, but said that "cinematic action sequences and environments are worth your six hours."

Planet Of Lana review: a gorgeous sci-fi tale that shoots for the stars

Planet of Lana has all the hallmarks of a story-rich platformer. Across its six-hour run time, you'll encounter a string of environmental puzzles, an evil plan concocted by a group of baddies, a rich orchestral soundtrack that swells at all the right moments, a cute animal companion, and a gorgeous world that needs saving.

On paper, it has everything you could possibly want from this kind of game, but in practice, it can also be Lana's undoing at times. It does everything well - admittedly some much better than others - but it feels like this sci-fi tale is missing something. That gut punch, that sigh of relief after a thrill, that unexpected surprise... You know, that extra edge to really make it sing. It’s still a very enjoyable adventure, but its lack of emotional highs means it doesn't linger long in the memory once you've seen the credits roll. Is that a roundabout way to say that Planet of Lana is a solid 7/10? Maybe, but we don't do that here.
