This device should help me endure

It wasn't long after I found myself stranded in this strange place before I stumbled upon the plans for a Growing Table. Building this device would allow me access to a sustainable source of Serum from plants already growing on this island. I had to make it my top priority to craft one.

In my short time here, I’ve learned that Serum running through the plants was essential for survival on the island. The flora doesn’t offer much in quantity of the substance, but with enough plants, I can get ready for excursions deeper into the unknown.

Growing the plants turned out to be an easy task, but In the long run, I needed a more reliable source. The Growing Table lamps consume a lot of power, and that is a scarce resource in this forsaken place.

As I continued to explore the island, I encountered more and more strange creatures, all affected by the Serum – most of them hostile. But no matter what, I knew the Growing Table was only a short-term solution. If I wanted more Serum, I had to get ready to fight for it.

I have found something more sinister than I could ever imagine

As I wandered through the lush forest in search of resources, something caught my eye in the distance. A dilapidated building with broken windows and an overgrown exterior stood out among the trees. Again, my curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to investigate.

When I approached the building, a sense of unease washed over me. The front door was open, and I cautiously pushed it, stepping inside. The air was musty, and the only light came from the sun peeking through the cracks in the walls.

After my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I began to make out strange equipment scattered throughout the rooms. Tables with straps and restraints, jars filled with unidentifiable liquids, and medical tools that sent shivers down my spine. It was then that I noticed the paperwork tossed across the floor, with words like "mutation", "subject", and “serum” scribbled across them.

My heart raced as I realized the implications of what I had stumbled upon. This was a facility where human tests were conducted. What horrors had occurred within these walls? Who were the subjects, and most importantly, was I one of them?

Bringing the creatures to life

Hey survivors! As we already mentioned on our Discord channel, we are in the process of switching from UE4 to UE5 while working on Serum. This will help us deliver a quality survival experience with top-tier graphics, and we can’t wait to showcase some of the fantastic stuff we made so far.

In previous devlogs, we have shown you one of the creatures you will encounter in the game – The Mist Wolf. You could also see them in the teasers. Now, it’s time to reveal the upgraded version. This particular mutation is called the Alpha Mist Wolf, and as you can see, he’s not one to be messed with.

Below, you can also find some of the original concept art that the creature is based on. In Serum, players will cross paths with a multitude of creatures – each with their own distinctive characteristics and behaviour. We will update you on the progress and show more of them in the future, so stay tuned!

The fauna of this island keeps surprising me

From the first day, I found myself trapped in this strange place, I noticed that some plants carry the valuable Serum that helps me to stay alive. They are not the most sustainable source of this substance, but they provide just enough to get me through the day.

What I discovered during my most recent expedition to the yet-undiscovered parts of the island shook me to the core. I came across a rather sizeable tubular plant that seemed very… alive. I didn’t want to risk advancing towards it and kept observing from a distance.

After a short while, a family of Rotten Rabbits approached the plant as if they wanted to try if it was edible. As soon as they got close enough, the plant exploded, launching its Serum-infused spores into the air. The rabbits fell almost immediately, but I was unsure if they were dead or incapacitated.

I could swear that with each minute, I spotted more and more of these plants as if they were reproducing rapidly. The truth was they were camouflaged well with the forest undergrowth, so I had to be extra careful with each subsequent step.

I decided not to go any further and returned to my shelter. I need to make a plan on how to proceed. I must find a way around the plants if the spores are deadly. And even if they are not, they still might accelerate the mutation or, best case scenario, grant me a new ability. So many unknowns, yet I’m in no hurry to find out.

One thing that really makes me lose sleep is these plants must have grown from other seeds or spores, which means there is potentially a much larger plant somewhere out there. I just hope I won’t cross paths with it.

Time feels different here

I have lost track of how many days I have spent in this cursed forest. The exhaustion is starting to take its toll not just on my body but also on my mind. With each passing night, I feel an inch close to madness.

I have noticed something strange about the creatures outside – they have become more alert – as if they are waiting for an important event to happen. The days are becoming shorter and colder, and my longing for home is getting stronger.

Could this mean it’s that time of the year? If that’s the case, then to whoever finds this note: I wish you Happy Holidays.
