The story behind our name

The Game Island team consists of passionate game designers, but above all – gamers. We want to create unforgettable games with original stories and freedom for the players in how they approach each task. Serum is our first project and we’re happy to say that the development is progressing as planned, and there’s a lot we want to disclose in the near future.

Part of the Game Island team:

Like with most studios out there, there’s a reason behind our name. And it’s actually quite simple. We’re called Game Island because our studio is literally located on an island. Wyspa Słodowa (Słodowa Island) is a small island on the Odra river in Wrocław. Our office is located close to the river bank with a great view of Wroclaw.

You might think that a team located in a modern office would know little about survival, but we do have our daily struggles, like; being the first to arrive in the very limited parking lot, navigating the one-way narrow roads leading to the island, getting distracted by the surrounding nature or refilling the coffee machine.

All jokes aside, we love our office and we love making games. We know that by the time Serum is finished, players will get to enjoy an immersive survival title that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Can’t wait to share more details.

Fun fact about Wyspa Słodowa: it’s the only place in the centre of Wrocław where alcohol consumption is allowed in public.

Happy Easter!

We realize that our bunnies may not be easily associated with love, chocolate and sunshine but we would still like to wish you the very best this time of year and always!

Someone’s been here before…

On my way to scavage for more serum ingredients, I came across an abandoned train car. It felt like it doesn’t belong here - a remnant of the times I once knew. On the outside, it was taken over by vegetation and that made it look really ominous. At first, I didn’t want to go inside, but at the same time, I felt like something was inviting me in. Also, my gut was telling me that something of value might be waiting for me to find.

The interior of the car was also filled with local flora. Nature was not kind to this place. Although there was no food or water, I did manage to find something interesting. On one of the tables between the rows of seats, there was an eerie photograph lying in what seemed to be patches of dried blood. Once I had the photo in front of my eyes, my gut responded once again. There was something very familiar about the person in it. I just couldn’t figure out if it was someone I knew or maybe I have seen this face on one of the corpses I passed on my journey here.

Either way, someone has been here before…

Serum Bestiary – Toxic Maggot

Just when I thought I had seen everything this strange land throws at me, I encountered another peculiar creature. For the sake of this journal, I will call it a Toxic Maggot since it shows some insect-like features. It resembles a mix of a tick and a crab when you look long enough.

These toxic insects have a nasty habit of biting and running away. I need to be very careful not to get overwhelmed by them since the bites are toxic and painful. They seem to like damp and dark places and primarily inhabit the underground part of these lands. They are, however, often spotted feasting on the carcass of dead animals.

Toxic Maggots are easy to kill – all you need is a sharp object and good timing. An element of surprise will indeed work to your benefit. Once I’ve disposed of the Maggots, I’ve found a good use for their dead bodies as they seem to attract larger predators.

Serum Bestiary – Rotten Rabbits

One of the first things I saw after waking up was the little hut house deep in the woods. At first, I couldn’t believe my own eyes, but inside the shed, I found a very useful crafting recipe for a serum that included Rotten Rabbit ears.

The lush woods surrounding the hut were a good place to start my hunt. With only the spear at my disposal, it was not an easy task as the Rotten Rabbits are very fast creatures. It took some patience and practice to get my first kill. Luckily, the Rabbits did not fight back – I can’t begin to imagine the consequences of a Rotten Rabbit bite, but I bet it would hurt like hell.

The recipe was very helpful for start, but the number of toxins in rabbit ears was very low, and that means I would need to start hunting for something bigger soon. However, I had the feeling that other animals roaming these lands would put up much greater of a fight. For now, these will have to do. Maybe I should think of some traps, to increase my chances of gathering more Rotten Rabbit ears? If only I could find a helpful recipe to craft some.
