SOUTHAG Operation #4: Siegfried's Wrath

Hello commanders,

It is good to be back. Hot on the heels of the free Reinforcement Pack 11#: Low Countries' Lions’ release, gifting two new NATO divisions to all owners of WARNO, we return to WARNO - SOUTHAG with a preview of the last Operation to be featured in our new expansion: Siegfried's Wrath.

Let’s go!
WARNO - SOUTHAG’s Siegfried's Wrath
Siegfried's Wrath is the last of the four Operations of our new expansion. Like the other scenarios, they center around a strategic counter-strike by NATO against a wavering Warsaw Pact set near the Czechoslovakian frontier in southern West Germany.

Siegfried's Wrath takes place on June 26th, meaning it is chronologically the first Operation within the WARNO - SOUTHAG timeline. Featuring the West German 1. Luftlande-Division, it shows the initial NATO actions in the campaign to push the Czechoslovaks back across the Iron Curtain.

[previewyoutube](insérer vidéo Steph en lien plus haut)[/previewyoutube]

After the initial strikes by the Warsaw Pact, the Czechoslovak People’s Army didn’t advance much deeper into West Germany, hesitant to leave the protective air cover and nearby support of the Soviet Central Group of Forces. NATO, desperate to regain the initiative, launches the air assault in order to establish a bridgehead across the Danube near Deggendorf. Once established, this bridgehead will serve as the West German and Canadian fixing attacks as depicted in the Army General campaign Holding Attack.
Siegfried's Wrath detailed
Siegfried's Wrath is a large-scale surprise attack mounted by the West German 1. Luftlande-Division. As a commander, you have been awarded the command of the offensive’s recon and support units, tasked with leading the division to success on the battlefield. Mind you, the forces available to you are limited in size and power. You mostly get to play with recon teams, artillery batteries, attack helicopters, and close air support.

The challenge in this Operation isn’t the assault itself, but instead supporting the unfolding attack with accurate battlefield reconnaissance and prompt use of artillery fires to destroy enemy positions. The AI controls the main West German force on the ground; as a commander, you take charge of the recon and supporting arms. As such, you need to deploy your scout units smartly, identify enemy defensive points, and pave the way for the offensive. This also means providing artillery support and smoke when needed. Furthermore, if heavy armor shows up, attack helos and airstrikes can neutralize even the deadliest of enemy threats.

You’ll have to monitor the frontline throughout the mission. The communists will fight back, and the units under your command are light and vulnerable if caught. Breakthroughs need to be reinforced, counterattacks beaten back. You only get a limited amount of units, which means some tough decisions in the field. However, your battlefield conduct in Siegfried's Wrath will prove pivotal in determining the success or failure of the mission, especially as enemy reinforcements will start pouring in to crush the bridgehead.
WARNO - SOUTHAG Expansion In Short
WARNO - SOUTHAG is WARNO’s second expansion after WARNO - NORTHAG and showcases the fighting in southern West Germany near the Alps and on the Czechoslovakian frontier.

In the southern reaches of Germany, the Warsaw Pact with the Soviet Central Group of Forces, bolstered by the communist Czechoslovakians, battles against a counter-attacking NATO SOUTHAG command led by France, with American, West German, Canadian, and reinforcing Spanish troops.

v160943: Hot fix

[p]This patch contains a few but important fixes, which are as follows:[/p]
  • Fixed a crash on game launch.
  • Fixed the Counter Battery order, which is working again.

We apologize for releasing an update that changes the version number. We always strive to minimize any disruption to mods or save file compatibility. However, when an issue impacts a large number of players, this kind of update is sometimes necessary.

For Modders:
  • Your mods will not be invalidated by this patch.

RP10 and RP11 Low Countries' Lions available

Hello!

As we announced earlier this week, WARNO - SOUTHAG hasn't released in Q2 2025 has originally planned. We just need a bit more time to polish it before release, and apologize for the delay.

Yet, to make amend, we are releasing today two new free contents to help you wait a bit more.

More details below.
Reinforcement Pack #10 and 11
As of now, you can download two new free contents:
  • Reinforcement Pack #10, the new map Eiche, inspired by the outskirts of Hamburg and already showcased in a previous DevBlog.
  • Reinforcement Pack #11, called Low Countries' Lions, a brand new RP we crafted especially for this occasion,. It features two new NATO divisions: the Belgian DivMob, which we detailed earlier this week, and the Dutch CLKA.

Both Reinforcement Pack are available as you read this lines.
Freeze and black screen issues
We wanted to give you a quick update about the freeze and black screen issues that some of you might still be running into in WARNO. We know this has been a recurring topic, and we’re keeping a close eye on it.

The “good” news is that the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers have helped reduce these problems for a lot of players. Plus, with the introduction of the Vulkan graphics API, available right in your in-game graphics settings, you might notice fewer issues, or even see them disappear entirely, depending on your setup.

Rest assured, we are still actively working to resolve these issues and improve your experience. If you’re still having trouble, we recommend giving Vulkan a try (which we have further improved with today’s update) and making sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Follow these simple steps to activate Vulkan :
  1. Open the Options menu from the main screen.
  2. Navigate to the Video section.
  3. Find the Graphic API setting.
  4. Select Vulkan from the list.
  5. Restart the game to apply the changes.

Keep in mind that the Vulkan backend is still considered experimental and may not yet match the performance of the DirectX11 backend.
(We’re always looking for feedback, so don’t hesitate to let us know if Vulkan has solved any issues for you!)

Thanks for your patience and for all your feedback!
Dedicated Servers Are Here
We are excited to announce that dedicated servers are now available! As with our previous games, you can host your own server, customize it to your liking, and make it visible to the entire community.

But that’s not all.
You can now run servers with mods enabled, whether they’re gameplay mods, new maps, or any other custom content. We’ve updated the game to make this experience as smooth as possible:
  • Servers with mods are clearly marked in the server list.
  • If you already have the required mods installed: The game will restart, activate the necessary mods, and automatically join the server.
  • If you don’t have the required mods: The game will prompt you to subscribe and install them, then restart and connect you to the server.

This new system makes multiplayer modding easier than ever. We can’t wait to see what you create and share, enjoy!
Please note: there is one limitation, servers running a custom map mod will only be visible to players who have that specific mod enabled.

For those interested in hosting a server, you’ll find everything you need right here: Docker Eugen Systems Warno

Today, we will shine some light on the new Dutch Commando LegerKorpsAchtergebied.
The CLKA Historical Background
The Koninklijke Landmacht’s CLKA stands for the beautifully named Commando LegerKorpsAchtergebied which translates to “Rear Area Command”, which for you and our sanity’s sake we have shortened to CLKA. This particular formation was a war-activated divisional command which would have been created as part of the Dutch (NORTHAG-based) 1 (NL) Corps to help secure the rear area of the three Dutch fighting divisions closer to the front (the 1., 4. and 5e Divisie).

The main component of the division was the 101. Infanteriebrigade. Although filled with reservists historically, these would have been from the most recent batch of demobilized soldiers, meaning they would still be fit and relatively up to date in their training. As such, the brigade’s soldiers are considered regulars in WARNO.

The 101. Infanteriebrigade’s commander was also the de facto commander of the CLKA, and controlled four infantry battalions, half of them mechanized with the AIFV. The other two battalions were truck-borne in real life, but in our alternative timeline, they have been equipped with the trademark Dutch YP-408 wheeled APC (just retired from service) to enhance their firepower.

Another permanently assigned unit was the VerkBat 105, a recon battalion similarly filled with recently demobilized reservists. They are also treated as regulars in-game.

As with other rear-area command divisions, the CLKA also safeguards the corps’ heavy artillery guns and long-range anti-air SAM units, which will duly be represented in the division’s ranks. Lastly, all sorts of security troops would be making their way from the Netherlands to the front, and to patrol and secure the transit areas in between. These range from elite commandos to security militias, and will also be featured within the division.
The CLKA in WARNO
How will the CLKA look like in WARNO? New units are both italic and bolded. Some units are new to this nation, but can be found with other NATO armies.

LOG
  • Average, starting with a number of cheap slots, before availability becomes more expensive. The usual supply units are a FOB, plus medium DAF-4400 VRACHT and heavy DAF YHZ-2300 VRACHT supply trucks.
  • Command units include the new M38A1 CMG jeep (which is the Korean War's variant of the venerable World War II-era Willys jeep), the new YP-408 PWCO wheeled command APC, and the YPR-765 PRCO-C1.

INF
  • A pretty solid category, although with more expensive slots compared to a regular infantry division. The CLKA can be considered an outsized brigade with additional attached security troops.
  • The core of the division’s infantry comes from the 101. Infanteriebrigade, which in itself is represented in a variety of units:
    • PANTSERINF. mechanized infantry squads which deploy in all the same variants as the 4e Divisie. They ride in soft-skin vehicles and YPR-765 PRI.50, which is the .50 cal variant, not the 25mm one.
    • The new INFANTERIE are larger 9-man squads with FAL and MAG, plus either LAW or Carl Gustav recoilless rifles. The leader variant is an even bigger 10-strong squad with Uzi, FAL, LAW, and smoke grenades. These troops can deploy in soft-skin vehicles and the YP-408 PWI, the Dutch iconic wheeled APC, predecessor to the YPR-765.
    • NATRES reservist squads are also present, deployable in trucks, YP-408 PWI, and the YPR-765 PRI.50. These squads represent the less-trained reservists of the division.
    • They are further backed by the RES. GENIE combat engineers with Uzis, MAG, and satchel charges, plus the Reservist trait.
    • Support units include (new to the nation) M40A1, the new DRAGON I and (new to the Dutch) I-TOW anti-tank teams. The DRAGON team is special, as it is a very cheap 2-man short-ranged ATGM team.
    • Plus MAG 7,62mm machine gun teams, and TANKJAGERS anti-tank squad with two Carl Gustav. The M38A1C M40A1 is deployable as a fire-support jeep.
  • The infantry is further reinforced by a wide array of security units:
    • BEVEILIGING squads are security troops, more on the level of militia, brought over from Dutch soil. These are 9-strong squads with Uzi, Garand, and L4A4 (modernized World War 2-era Bren LMGs) with the Reservist and Security traits. The best of the bunch are gathered into BEVEILIGING MOBIEL with Uzi, FAL, two FALO, and a MAG, and no Reservist trait. BEVEILIGING CMG is their 7-man leader variant with Uzis, an L4A4, and an M20 Super Bazooka, another weapon of Korean War's vintage. These squads come in soft-skin vehicles only.
    • To keep the reservist rabble in line, the MARECHAUSSEE is present, in M38A1 NEKAF and ROVER KMAR transports (itself with the Military Police trait), but also as the new MARECHAUSSEE (MAG) squad, which is a 12-man unit with Uzis and a MAG and the Military Police trait, deployable in DAF trucks and VW T3 KMAR minibus (with Military Police trait).
    • MARECHAUSSEE CMG are 4-man leader squads with Uzis, MAG and M20 Super Bazooka, also riding in M38A1 NEKAF and the new ROVER KMAR.
    • Finally, the new COMMANDO RES. squads. Tasked with tracking down enemy special forces behind enemy lines, these are veteran 11-man squads with FAL, one scoped FAL, 2x MAG and LAW, plus the Special Forces, Shock and Security traits. The leader variant is the COMMANDO CMG, which is an 8-strong unit with Uzis, 2x L4A4, LAW, and smoke grenades, and comes with the same traits as their regular infantry squad.

ART
  • Pretty good, if we look at the availability of the units and their price. The 101. Infanteriebrigade could only count on some lighter (new to this division and nation) M30 107mm.
  • Heavier corps artillery pieces include the (again new to this nation) M101 105mm, the brand-new M114/39 155mm, (new to the nation) M110A2 203mm and (new to the Dutch) M270 MLRS. The last two units are armed with cluster munitions.

TANK
  • Pretty good for a reservist division, in terms of costs and slots, but all the units mentioned here will come in one card.
  • The only organic tanks assigned to the CLKA were the LEOPARD 2A4(B) featured by its recon battalion.
  • The CLKA would have been in the collecting area for vehicles transitioning to and from the front (for instance, as replenishment or for repair). In case of an immediate threat, any in working order, would have been commandeered by the CLKA. As such, the division gets a few (new) LEOPARD 1V (in vanilla and CMG command variant), as well as older CENTURION MK.5/2.
  • Anti-tank units include the new M38A1 TOW, the YP-408 PWAT (with a single I-TOW launcher) and the YPR-765 PRAT (with twin TOW-2 launcher).

REC
  • Pretty good, in terms of price and availability, primarily thanks to the inclusion of its own recon battalion, the VerkBat 105. The CLKA has a good number of recon troops and vehicles at its disposal.
  • Infantry scouts include:
    • VERKENNERS squads deployable in M38A1 NEKAF, the new M38A1 VERK.) with an M1191 MG (counts as a recon vehicle), and ALOUETTE.
    • The new PANTSERVERKENNERS, a stronger 8-man recon squad with FAL, MAG, and Carl Gustav recoilless rifles, coming trucks and the new M113A1 VERK. (counts a recon vehicle).
  • Recon vehicles include:
    • The M113 C&V and the new M113 C&V KMAR, a military police (Koninklijke Marechaussee) variant of the same armored vehicle, armed with an M2HB 12,7mm HMG and featuring the Military Police trait next to its recon ability.
    • The new YP-408 PWRDR, an unarmed radar recon variant of the wheeled APC.
  • Air recon includes the ALOUETTE III, but also the new BO-105 CB MINIGUN. A few later models of this helicopter were equipped with this particular weapon in real life (pictures exist), but nothing was known of their official designation or where they were deployed. The new unit will see the light in WARNO under this made-up name.

AA
  • Same as the above categories, being pretty good in terms of slots and their prices. The division did not have any organic anti-air units, but as a rear-area command, it safeguarded heavier corps assets, which will be represented in this category.
  • BOFORS 40L70G and STINGER MANPAD teams.
  • I-HAWK SAM.
  • A few old M55 MAXSON quad-12,7mm of World War II vintage.
  • The Americans forward-deployed troops from the 2nd Armored Division in the area the CLKA is guarding, waiting for the rest of the division to be airlifted in. Among the troops already on the ground are a select number of helicopters, which grants the division a single card of OH-58C/S as anti-air attachment.

HEL
  • Mediocre, with few options and expensive slots. The Dutch Armed Forces in the late 1980s didn’t have any attack helicopters. Furthermore, the CLKA was not a priority when it came to close air helo support. The only available choppers will be called upon from nearby NATO allied units.
  • These include West German BO-105 PAH-1.
  • And American AH-1F HOGs.

AIR
  • Average. The Koninklijke Luchtmacht helps out with the Dutch NF-5A in HE, the new NPLM loadout, and CLU, as well as F-16A in an AA2 variant.
  • American F-4E PHANTOM II [AA], plus the F-4G WILD WEASEL V [SEAD] will also be available.

The CLKA is a well-rounded rear-area division, without any major drawbacks, but also without any specific strengths. Unlike other similar divisions in-game, which rely on masses of reservists, this division is mostly composed of regular units and capable mechanized forces.
WARNO - SOUTHAG Expansion
WARNO - SOUTHAG is WARNO’s second expansion after WARNO - NORTHAG and showcases the fighting in southern West Germany near the Alps and on the Czechoslovakian frontier.

In the southern reaches of Germany, the Warsaw Pact with the Soviet Central Group of Forces, bolstered by the communist Czechoslovakians, battles against a counter-attacking NATO SOUTHAG command led by France, with American, West German, Canadian, and reinforcing Spanish troops.

SOUTHAG Delay plus RP11 Low Countries' Lions #1

Hello!

Get ready for some important news with today’s DevBlog; specifically in regard to the (late) delivery of WARNO - SOUTHAG.

And we don’t come empty-handed. As an apology of sorts, we will deliver a free Reinforcement Pack to feature two new NATO divisions in the near future.

Lots to explain, so let’s dive in straight away.
WARNO - SOUTHAG Delays
Well, well, well, Eugen meets again its nemesis: the wickedest of all… time! Yes, we know, this is not the first moment that we encountered delays with one of our projects. The road of game development can be long, complex, and quite bumpy.

As we have wrestled with hiccups or changes in schedule before, a disclaimer of sorts: Eugen is a small, dedicated, independent game studio with a hard-working team that does their damndest to get everything out the door as soon as possible. However, game dev involves delays, things not working out, other issues, bugs, etc., which means that we can’t always deliver what we promised on time. Such is the case with WARNO - SOUTHAG.

We originally announced that WARNO expansion would be delivered by Q2 of 2025 (meaning April to June). Clearly, we have not made this deadline. WARNO - SOUTHAG is delayed, though we are working very hard to get the new expansion into your hands as soon as possible.

Of course, we want to make up for this. You know Eugen, we might not be able to deliver on time, but we do owe up. As an “apology” to our community, and to make sure there is not too much restless waiting, we will release the already announced Reinforcement Pack #10, that is the new map Eiche, but also extra content in the the form of a Reinforcement Pack #11.
Reinforcement Pack #11
A little bit more detail: Reinforcement Pack #11 contains two divisions with a host of new units. These were chiefly made for WARNO - NORTHAG: some only featured in our Army General campaigns, others had remained unused for they fitted neither AG not our multiplayer division. On top of that, we fleshed the divisions with some new models build purposedly for this RP.
This particular offering would have been, somewhat unfairly, overlooked had we put them through a Nemesis vote. At the same time, due to the content and theme, being able to offer them as a free Reinforcement Pack #11 makes now even more sense!

So, what are you going to get?
RP #11 - Low Countries’ Lions
Reinforcement Pack #11 will be called Low Countries’ Lions and will feature two (yup) NATO divisions: the Dutch Commando Legerkorpsachtergebied (or CLKA), and the Belgian Division Mobilisation (or DivMob). As you can see, two NATO rear-area formations with a rather interesting make-up and plenty of unique equipment. The name stems from the fact that the Netherlands and Belgium both share the Leo Belgicus in their coat of arms.

For the Dutch CLKA, you’ll get among other things the new in-game YP-408 series of APC, the Dutch trademark Cold War workhorse, which was in real life retired in 1989, just before our war scenario. In our alternative history, they would have been passed to another “lesser active” unit and seen the light within this battlegroup. Although a rear-area command, this division doesn't rely as extensively on reservists as other similar ones.

As for the Belgian DivMob, a treasure trove of original weaponry awaits. Belgium might not have been the most modernly equipped NATO ally, but it has a special profile among Western armies: it didn’t throw anything away. Much like the Soviets, the Belgians kept hundreds of armored vehicles, APCs, SPGs, and even tanks in storage. This new division will give them plenty of opportunity to shine.

We will highlight first the Belgian DivMob today, and the Dutch CLKA later this week.
The DivMob’s Historical Background
The Belgian Division Mobilisation, or in-game the DivMob, was an administrative - not field - command of the Belgian Armed Forces. All mobilized troops and equipment would be processed through this formation before final assignment to an active unit.

While the Dutch CLKA is a rear-area command in the field, the DivMob is instead a division created from interior troops, used in the case of an enemy breakthrough of NATO’s main line of defense. This formation would also have been deployed if the communists had ever invaded Belgian territory or dropped airborne troops over the country.

In this way, the DivMob acted as a divisional headquarters and commanded a combat group from Belgium’s Interior Forces, which included:

  • 9x Territorial regiments, forming the core of the DivMob.
  • 3x Regular light infantry regiments, acting as interior mobile reserves.
  • 4x Engineer battalions, plus independent companies.
  • Reservists.
  • Gendarmes, including the Royal Belgian Gendarmerie’s armored squadron.
  • Heavy AA and artillery units.
  • Lots of other equipment in storage, some of it coming out of long-term warehouses. This ranges from APCs, self-propelled guns, and tanks, all of which are to be manned by reservists.

Ultimately, although fielding older equipment, the DivMob is a mechanized formation at more levels than its active field-duty combat division counterparts.
The DivMob in WARNO
How will the DivMob look like in WARNO - SOUTHAG? New units are both italic and bolded. Some units are new to this nation, but can be found with NATO in other armies. The following might be subject to change.

LOG
A good category, as can be expected from this type of division.
  • For supplies, you can deploy an FOB, the (new to this nation) UNIMOG S404 LOG, and heavy VOLVO N10 LOG. supply trucks, as well as the few Belgian Navy's SEA KING supply helicopters, deploying in their cool-looking livery.
  • Command units include the ILTIS PC jeep, as well as the armored (new) AMX-13 MOD.56 PC and M75 PC. The former is the command variant of the French AMX-13 VCI APC, while the latter is a heavy American APC from the Korean War, the first of a family that will spawn the M59 and M113 later on.

INF
A very good category, with the DivMob having all the hallmarks of an infantry division.
  • The core of the battlegroup will be formed by PROVINCIAUX, Belgian territorial troops. These are 12-strong squads equipped with FAL, 1x FALO and an M20 Super Bazooka, plus the Reservist trait. They come in either trucks or M75 AIV with a .50 cal machine gun. The CMDT PROVINCIAUX is the leader variant, being a 10-strong squad with 4x PM Vigneron, 5x FAL, 1x FALO and smoke grenades, with the same Reservist trait and transport option.
  • To keep the reservists in check, PREVOTE in ILTIS and ROVER PREVOTE (with Military Police trait) and blue-dressed GENDARMES, 10-strong with PM Vigneron, FAL and 2x FALO and the Military Police trait are available. Aside from trucks, the latter unit can deploy in two dedicated Military Police vehicles: the VW T3 GENDARMERIE minivan and BDX Irish-made APC, armed with 2x MAG machine guns.
  • The combat engineer battalions are represented as the PIONIER (regular, RL-83 recoilless rifle, and leader variants), the same as the Belgian 16de Pantserdivisie (part of WARNO - NORTHAG), in softskin vehicles or AMX-13 MOD.56 VCI APCs.
  • To represent the three regular light infantry regiments, we used the CHASSEURS ARDENNAIS (even though in real-life, they only amount to one of the three regiments) primarily for their World War I and World War II fame… and their cool looks. These are 8-man strong squads, with FNC, 2x MAG and LAW, plus the Security trait, deployable in trucks. Their CMDT CHASSEURS ARDENNAIS leader variant are 4-strong with 3x FNC, 1x scoped Model 30-11, a Blindicide RL-83 and smoke grenades, with access to both trucks or the AIFV-B-50.
  • The RES. PARA-COMMANDO represents the depot's 4th (Reserve) Para-Commando Bataillon, which wasn’t featured in the MNAD battlegroup (of WARNO - NORTHAG) as was the rest of the regiment. As reserve paratroopers, this unit doesn’t receive the Reservist trait, to reflect the higher standards of training, but does lose the Shock trait of their more active counterparts. This unit is an 8-strong squad with FNC, 2x FALO and Blindicide RL-100, plus the Airborne trait's Forward Deployment. They can deploy in UNIMOG UI350L or UNIMOG UI350L PARA. trucks.
  • Support units featured are MAG 7,62mm, MILAN 1, and PARA. MILAN 2.

ART
Very good, with lots of guns, and plenty of self-propelled guns in storage. This category is also not too expensive, with a good number of slots.
