That’s a wrap PAX Melbourne, SXSW Sydney & Brasil Game Show

Hey kittens,
We had a fantastic month of October taking Copycat on the road. Check out our highlights:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We started by giving a presentation at the GCAP in Melbourne, Australia, for International Games Week. The presentation was called ‘What a Decade in Advertising Taught Us About Game Dev”, and took place at the Screen Australia Local Lounge. Here’s a photo of us being all nervous before the talk.

Next up was three days at PAX Australia. It was a whirlwind of games, cosplay and smiles. It was such a pleasure to meet so many friendly faces. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi if you came along! Here’s my favourite photo of PAX that we took with some special friends.

We also didn’t know what to do with our Copycat banner. Do you think we made the right choice?

After that was SXSW Sydney. The first time SXSW has been outside Austin, Texas. This festival holds a special place in my heart because it took place right in our backyard. SXSW was five fantastic days of innovation, film, music and (of course) gaming.

We were so humbled to be nominated for Game of the Year alongside some pretty amazing games. Congratulations to the winner: Dredge.

Also - our partner in South America, Nuuvem, was sharing our demo of Copycat at the Brasil Game Show. Here’s a few snaps of our booth in action:

Now the festival circuit is complete, we're looking forward to returning to work on the game. Cheers to more progress!

Sam & Kostia

Attention Copycat future playtesters 🎮 🐾

Hi friends,
We have less than two months until PAX Melbourne and SXSW Sydney where the demo of our debut game Copycat will light up your hearts and imaginations. In preparation for the demo release, we went to a local cat cafe to see if our four-legged friends could offer us some words of advice.

Truthfully, the cat's feedback was a little difficult to decipher, but you gotta love them regardless.

But perhaps you are keen to play our demo and provide us with feedback!? Simply keep an eye on our twitter (https://twitter.com/GameCopycat) over the coming days where we will have a sign up for players to try our demo build.

(Yes, that is a cat lollypop!)

EZIYODA chats with the Copycat Team

Hi friends,
This is the perfect early 30th birthday present! Last week we received our first official interview for our indie game Copycat in the lead-up to PAX Australia. Tony did a terrific job wrangling the article together. Read the full article here: https://eziyoda.com/2023/08/16/genre-of-cats-chat-with-team-behind-copycat/

Kostia and I have an opportunity to reflect on our journey, and realised that thanks to our years in advertising, we now have the hustle, the fire, the storytelling skills and the technical abilities to thrive in game development.

Follow our socials for more updates on Copycat as we approach PAX. Or head on over to EZIYODA (https://eziyoda.com/) for more loveable long-form opinion pieces usually involving games or cats.

See below a sneak peek of the article:

"TONY: When people experience Copycat firsthand at PAX Aus, what are you hoping their takeaway will be?

SAM: We want them to turn to their partner, their friend, or their animal, and just give them a big hug!

KOSTIA: We want to try to shift more public perception, to show that video games are not just a bunch of violent shooting and robbing games, but they have beauty, they have storytelling.

SAM: They have a soul."

"TONY: Are there any real-life pets that might be making cameos in-game?

SAM: Oh yes, there’s so many! Flame, our family cat, is the voiceover for about 80% of the game.

KOSTIA: Last Christmas break, when we were with the family, we were stalking the poor cat for three days with a microphone, like, “Please meow! Please meow!”. We have a few friends from Twitter and a few streamers that kindly offered us their help in terms of cat sounds. We have two people sending us cat sounds to use in the game." Legends.

Cat Awareness Steam Sale (+ New Trailer) ✨

Hey friends,
There's no such thing as too many cat games. If you agree, check out Copycat in the 'coming soon' category of the Cat Awareness Steam Sale. Plus, explore the other excellent cat games featuring your favourite fluffy felines. 8th - 14th August.

ALSO - We have something special for you. New narrative teaser alert. Our writer and co-game director, Sam Cable, whipped up this teaser trailer to help explore some of the game's themes. It's not our final trailer by any means (especially since we left out the whole Copycat subplot), but we are keen to hear your thoughts. Drop us a comment below about your favourite parts/shots/moments/scenes of the teaser that we should also put in the official trailer.

Here are some words from Sam:
"Copycat is the alchemy of indie gaming, cinema and storytelling. Our primary innovation lies in the philosophical narrative layer of the script and the metaethical questions posed about existence, all disguised as a simple story about a cat trying to discover where she truly belongs." 😻

P.S. Some photos of us giving our love to the well-loved community kitty. But moments after these photos were taken, the kitty chased away a dog four times her size after it got a bit too close to her. What a sight!
